Consolidated Kansas

I hope you don't think I was trying to act like a know it all. I certainly don't! I'm always torn between hatching eggs or selling them to customers that prefer duck eggs. I wasn't going to hatch any more until spring, but my biggest buyer asked for more so I decided to get busy again. Mine are laying very well right now. I raise Cayuga's and Anconas as far as yard birds go.
But then I'm always hatching something. I think it's an addictive behavior for me.

I agree it is very addictive. As far as the other thing goes I like getting advice and suggestions. I have not hatched anything since I lived at home with my parents. I need all the help I can get. Lol

Aw! That's sweet. It never gets old. I just wish I could sell them all as soon as they hatch so I didn't have so many to take care of. I really do have my numbers down now, but I have a ton of eggs in the incubator to come out in the next couple weeks.
I need to hatch a couple of white Seramas for Seramaslovers. Too bad the shells don't come with markings so you know what you have coming! Wouldn't it be nice to just hatch the sex, color, and type of bird you wanted? I could really make some profit then! I've tried the egg shape thing to hatch pullets only but it really doesn't work.
I am waiting for it to warm up outside and it has only raised one degree in the last two hours. I really didn't want to work in the cold!
That wind is going nuts out there.

Can anyone tell me how long approximately until these other duck eggs hatch? I can hear them pecking in their eggs but they haven't broke through. I could hear these other ones last night too but still no pipping. I wish they would hurry up so my one that is hatched will not b alone.

They can do that for up to 3 days or so. Make sure you have lots of humidity. Add some wet sponges if nothing else to the incubator. You
can monitor them by candling them to make sure they are fine. Are they exterior pipped or just pipped into the air space? If they are exterior pipped be sure they don't dry out. It should take about 28 days to hatch but I've had some hatch at 26 and some hatch at day 30 or so.

When I candled them last night I could see them peking in the air sac. They were moving like crazy. They haven't went thru the shell tho. I can hear them working. I have quite a bit of water in there so I think the humidity is good. I guess maybe I am just excited and they need more time. It's day 27 today.

That will be so nice. Looks like I'm going to be running an extenstion cord again this year.

I just came in from taking care of the animals. Wow... with this cooler weather the chickens are only drinking a fraction of the water that they were when it was warmer.
