Canchaser those ducks just need a little more time. Better to have them take time than to rush them.
Hawkeye I so wish I had your neighbor! I have probably 500 feet of electrical line I need to run. I have tons of extension cords.
Well folks!Success!
I got the latches on the Mandarin pen gate, got the water running and filtering and got the ducks moved!

The ducks are loving the pond but they're pretty upset with me right now. I'll be out taking pictures when they settle down a little. One project down!!!

Okay, here's a couple pictures of the progress today. The trenching from the house to the coop. And then, the inside color I painted it. I still have not framed in the nest box on the inside. And where you see the gaps around the box doors-- I have already cut the wood that the lids will seat on and it will fill those gaps. I just haven't screwed them in yet. I wanted to paint them white, and so I've been waiting. Also- the pop door and the vent door are next! I guess I'll do them tomorrow, I thought I'd have time to do it today, but the painting and trenching took longer than I thought. Of course.

That is an AMAZING duck pen!! I mean.... WOW! And those ducks are gorgeous! Good grief, I had not one clue what a mandarin duck was, but those are the most beautiful ducks I've ever seen!! Now I know why you did that and how special they are! You should be so proud of that! Congrats on getting it done! I really love the fencing that acts as a wind break- so smart and it's so pretty!

Okay, where did you get your netting? I wanted to buy some netting for my horse stall and Atwoods said that they don't carry it in the Fall!! WHAT?!? So I bought tarp to hang over the horse stall.

I hope so! I was going for a sunny orange/yellow color to make it bright and cheerful in there. Once I get more trim on the inside around the nest box, I think it will look much nicer!

I'm really happy with it so far. And I love this color, it was fun to put on. I painted a deep tera cotta red color under it- it was really thick (and free) so there is really good coverage on the plywood. It took two coats of the orange/yellow to cover it.

I get all my netting from http://www.3tproducts.com/shop/pc/home.asp
They have the best prices of anywhere, even better than Cutler supply. You can also get it in different sized holes and made of different products. I have 2 inch and 1 inch. I like the 1 inch best because wild birds like sparrows don't get through it. This stuff last forever and if you get a hole in it you can just patch it with tywraps.
Yes I love my Mandies. I think they are gorgeous. Even prettier in person, and they make such an awesome sound while they move that top knot up in the air. The Wood ducks are also pretty but don't have the sail feathers on their back.

Danz, wow those are the most gorgeous ducks I have ever seen! Oh, now I want some, that's not fair! You have the nicest pens too, you can come build me some here any time!

Hawkeye, you're so lucky to have electricity to your coop, I have to run an extension cord from the garage right now at least. I had an electrician come out to give us an estimate on doing that & some of other wiring in the house & he never called us back, I don't think he wanted to do the job. We have that problem around this town. You call people that have certain businesses & they tell you that your job isn't big enough to warrant their time. What, you don't want my money??? I never have been able to figure that out. I love the color of the inside of your coop, very cheerful!

Canchaser, good luck on your ducklings, they're so cute! I had ducks years ago & geese too, but I don't have any now.
