Ivy, no more falling down for you!! I took a bad dive a couple years ago when I was about 8 months pregnant and twisted my knee. It just popped right out because of my extra weight and the awkward way I fell. Ugh. I HATE winter and ice. Bah.

Danz, sounds like you've already been pretty busy today! I don't know how you manage it all! Seriously, super woman, you are!

This was a preschool day, so not much got done. I don't want to work on the inside of my coop until it warms up a bit more. I need to straighten out the vinyl floor I put in. It's only tacked in on one side, and I need to glue down the other. I still can work around it, but I just don't feel like it with it only being in the 40's. Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 60's. I am going to try to get back out there later on this evening when it warms up a tad more. I really do think I can get the chicks in there this weekend!

Zorro, my new bird seems to be doing really well now. He is clucking and crowing and acting pretty normal. His poop also looks back to normal, too. I did bring home yogurt and more electrolytes for him. I was holding him and petting him a bit ago and he just snuggled in and closed his eyes. But when I hold him out to get a good look at him, he wakes up and then tries to eat my ring. Seems fairly normal to me.

Yes, Hawkeye. Sounds like he's doing all the normal chicken stuff. Oh, and by the way, He's gorgeous! I think you are off to a great start. Have you looked closely at his comb? I think silkies have the weirdest lookinig combs! They are so different!

I'm done. Had enough for one day. I hate the cold!
I got the duck pond project done and part of my floors swept. I installed a new front door threshold. I had put a new storm door in a while back and because the threshold was so wide and had been remodeled to allow for vinyl siding, there was about a 3 inch gap between the bottom of the door and the threshold. I cut a piece of plastic wood to put on a new apron and doubled it up on top to build up the height. I used construction adhesive and screws to hold it all in place. Hopefully it will keep out the cold.
I wonder sometimes why I think I have to have a million projects at all times. I never get any of them completed.
DH has been working on another shelter I think today. I haven't been bothering him. He decided to take the one I built for the guineas, and give it to one group of pheasants, and make a larger shelter for the guineas. I like that idea if he just gets it done and doesn't try to make anything fancy. I have a feeling when he starts to move the one I made for the guineas he'll end up totally rebuilding it cause it isn't all fancy and square. I hope not. I just want the birds to have ample shelter for the winter.

Danz, I can imagine that pond gets pretty yucky with duck poo. Ducks are so messy, I used to have ducks & geese, but I don't really want them here at this place because if they were out they would get in my water garden & get poo in there. I wouldn't mind having some geese if I could keep them out of there. I liked having them to eat the weeds in my yard, I had the prettiest yard when I had those geese.

I love my ducks. Both the Mandarin and wood ducks as well as the domestic kind. I don't care for geese myself because those are pooping machines. What is weird is I had these 6 birds in a tiny little pen and never noticed much poo. But since they are in this big aviary they poop everywhere.
Let's face it though, all birds are messy. I guess I have just learned to live with it. It doesn't bother me much unless there is rain or something and then the smells get awful. At any rate the pleasure I get from them outweigh all the negatives.
I suppose at some point I will have to downsize but for now I'm just enjoying them all.

I'm still looking for somewhere that butchers and processes birds. I have looked online and in the phone book and everywhere I call doesn't do birds or won't do such a small number. I am willing to drive them an hour or so if I can just find somewhere. I cannot keep feeding birds all winter that aren't laying. I can't believe I can't find anywhere!
