Consolidated Kansas

I'm sure I could do both on Saturday. If I go I'm not looking for more birds, just looking around. Wonder if anyone would be selling the watering nipples. Would be nice to get some without paying shipping. My girlfriend and I are wanting to try them. heard so many good reviews it sounds like the route I'm wanting to take to have clean water all the time, and get that 7 gal water fount off my floor.

I came to Kansas way back in 69. I love it here. God's country. And we are 12 miles out of Ottawa, so it's very quiet and peaceful despite living on a paved school road.

LOL I love winter!!! Can't get too much snow! We've been to Guy and Mae's a number of times with friends. Great ribs! I think you're referring to Timberlake Ranch. I'm not sure if it's still in operation. I'll have to check into the doing in Leroy this year. Always looking for fun things to do with my granddaughters and I love all the fall stuff. I love each season as it comes and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Most of my family has left CA and come this direction. My little sister swore when she left Indiana many years ago that she'd NEVER go back. Ha! Last week she and her hubby, daughter and granddaughter moved right back to the same town in Indiana. I can't wait to talk to her. Maybe now we'll even get to see them sometime.

I would have agreed with you until last winter. I was snowed into my house for nearly a week. My DH could get out in the 4 wheel drive truck, but my poor car was stranded. He even got the 4WD stuck in the driveway and had to shovel it out. A neighbor used his front-loader to clean out the driveway, and when I asked what I owed him, he said he had no idea because in the 20 years he has lived in this area, he has never seen so much snow fall so fast. We had 3 ft drifts in the driveway.

I do love winter and fall, though. This will be my first fall with chickens, so I'm trying to have a contingency plan for heat and water if it gets really nasty.

Yes, last year we got lots of snow!! I loved it, but it was also the first year I've gotten stuck with my 4W Expedition. First time right outside of garage and hubby had to get his truck out and pull me free. Second time was minutes later on the road outside my daughter's driveway down the road. And that was the day my son and grandbaby were flying into KC from CA. We made it in time, but I'm tellin ya it was tense all the way to KCI. This season I'll have a tow strap in my car and a bag of sand. I always carry several extra little ice scrapers because I can't stand to see people trying to chip ice off their windsheild with their keys or credit card.

I don't have an outside job so I get to spend the snowy days at home watching my bird feeders with my cup of tea. Will wait and see what winter is like with chickens. As long as their water flows they'll be okay. Chickens generate a goodly amount of body heat I am told. Also hubby said no one ever had insulated chicken houses when he was growing up on the farm. I'm looking forward to a beautiful long Fall season and then bring on the winter.
Have a great weekend fellow Kansan chicken lovers!

It was exciting. I love the snow and Kansas's other dramatic weather. One thing certain, we won't be bored!! Last winter was just a little too exciting for me, but I would rather have another one like that than the wimpy winters we sometimes have with no snow to speak of.

I grew up in Kansas but have lived in the south TX and the East coast. I personally think that Kansas has the best sky scapes of any place I have lived.
I too would like to learn about watter nipples as my ducks mess up the water can thingy I currently use now.

Well put. I lived in Hawaii for a while, and they were really proud of the sunsets, but ours are better. I love being able to see the edge of the earth in all directions from my roof (underground house).
