Consolidated Kansas

Rittert, search pictures of infectious corza. Maybe you can tell by the pictures if it is the same thing you are dealing with. Also did you notice if she had a dirty butt? Diarrhea is another symptom.
Since Corza is more of a tropical problem I wouldn't normally be so concerned about it here, but with the warmer winter this year it could have easily been spread. I'd be trying to find other options for housing ASAP and watching all the birds for the same symptoms. Get yourself some lysol wipes and keep your hands wiped while you are out there. Don't let your birds share water or feed with the owner's birds.
Chooks is very knowledgable on poultry disease. You should take heed to her warnings. This is scary stuff.

Well the Lily & Jasmine saga continues. Today after letting everyone out I had just gotten into the house & looked out & lo & behold I saw Jasmine going into the run. She wasn't pushing around the gate, but actually through it, yes you read that right, both of them just walked through the squares in the livestock panel. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have believed that they could do it. These squares are about 8 inches across & these big pups who I estimate weigh about 35 pounds now went right through. So now I'm just at a loss as to what to do next. I'm just so aggravated at them I can't hardly stand it.

Well we just reached 175 members a minute ago on the Kansas Poultry Swap, if we keep going the way we have been we will be up to 200 soon.

rittert, I agree with the others, I would also be worried about the lack of concern from your chicken landlords. If I were you I would be looking for somewhere else to keep your birds or you may lose them all.

WOW!! I can't believe your pups got thru the wire, Trish!! Okay... when they get a bit bigger, I really don't think they will be able to do that. So at that point.. problem solved. But for now... perhaps put chicken wire up on that gate except for maybe one square ---maybe either higher than they can get to, or in an odd spot on the gate. I'm baffled! I really thought you had them licked on this one! And honestly, when they get bigger, you will. I'm shaking my head here.

SO, just went out to the mailbox-- my Pinless Peepers arrived! I asked for all Yellow, but they ran out and had to give me two bright neon pink ones. The pink is really pretty. But I'll use the yellow ones up first. :)

Can you put some 2 X 4 fencing or maybe even chicken wire over the panel? The panel would be the strength and the lighter wire with smaller holes would, hopefully, keep them from going through.

Yes, I can believe they would just walk right through it. I have seen too many critters go through wire I didn't think could. usually, if they can get their head through they can get through. Except geese. Now those critters can get so woven into fence it is NOT funny.

Oops! I forgot the chickens have to go through it. Guess I am clueless also.

Trish, put a panel up across the bottom that is a solid panel. About 2 feet high should be sufficient. Your chickens will learn to jump up through it very quickly. My chickens learned to jump up about 12 feet to go where they wanted when I didn't want them to. The pups probably won't be able to jump too high and still squeeze through the fence. It's worth a try.

I have only been skimming through the recent posts but on the Tylan-when I spoke to K State the recommendation was .5 cc subcutaneous (right under the skin in the base of the neck in back so they couldn't peck at it for 3 days. In response to ChooksChick my husband bought me some small coops out of recycled plastic that work great. I like the fact that they will take cleaning if necessary which I do not think the cedar would. I am attaching a photo of two in our immediate back yard. I also want to share my two new seramas-first hatch of the year.

Those are cute little coops as well, what size are they and what to do they house?

Where did you buy those coops?? Can you post the link to them? I really like those, and that would be great and easy to move with us next year. :) I'm thinking of a place for my silkies. :)

It is by Ecoconcepts and it was at Atwoods last year. We bought two then John bought me another last month. They are fairly roomy for little birds. I still have the plastic over the run in case of inclement weather. I am going to go by Joanns this week when in KC and pick up more of the vinyl and sew more of a custom cover. On the inside I have a ceremic bulb that comes on at 40 degrees and a heated water bottle that holds about a quart of water. I bricked in the yard like I did on my large bird runs so I can (preferably my 17 year old) just scrape out the doo and compost it. I no longer work so my husband says no more toys until I am working again. ;(
