Ok sopolish/phoenix. I see that 2 look like silver phoenix and 2 look like golden laced polish. I see a tiny top knot on one of the black ones and a little mohawk on the other black one and you can not see a comb except on one of the phoenix colored one and the black ones have large nostrils. Could it be a sex linked thing going on with them? They are just darling. What day did they hatch? The little duccle mix he is sussex/duccle right? He is so tiny for 2 months. He is as old as the polish mix I have already correct? And we are sure it is a roo? Oh I can not thank you enough for them, my kids are so in love with them. They said to give you a big hugMaidenwolf, I only have a polish rooster in that house that the mystery eggs came from. And the only two hens that lay white eggs in there to my knowledge is a polish and a pheonix. There is one mixed black hen that 'might" lay a white egg. So unless they had been fertilized before I moved them out there....which is doubtful, they would have to be mixed with polish. I was very confused when there weren't any top knots. I was honestly expecting some pure polish. You never know about these birds!!
I haven't tracked how many weeks they have been penned but it has been quite a while.
I am so glad that your daughter was happy with the d'uccles and that your son got his own. That is what it is all about. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
The half d'uccle is the one I promised you some time ago. He is over 2 months old and should do fine outside. I just kept him in the brooder so I could keep track of him. He is still so small. He should be about the same age as the older chicks you got from me.
I was going to grab the chicks from the Mamma hen but just couldn't. She is being such a good Mom to them. They are getting big and I think they'll be on their own in a few weeks. Then maybe I can move them without feeling guilty.
The hen I put the eggs under is still sitting tight. I took about 5 of them after a couple days that were outside of her fluff and fed them to the dogs. No sense risking the whole batch for a few eggs. Hopefully when she hatches them it will break her broodiness for a while.
The pups are adorable. You are gonna be busy.I honestly don't know which sex the d'uccle mix is. I honestly didn't look. I am guessing (s)he is sussex and d'uccle cause Duke (the blue d'uccle) visited those girls on a regular basis. No this chick is about the same age as some of the other chicks....not the cochin roo. Older than the ones that came from the Pheonix hen but younger than the black cochin roo.....if that makes sense. I have one silver laced polish roo and one gold laced polish roo in that house where the mystery eggs came from. I just expected to see more of a top knot on therm. I'm guessing most are polish pheonix crossed.
One of these days I'll have everyone separated completely and not have to guess any more. At least the d'uccles are d'uccles for sure.
Oh my goodness he is tiny. Medawinks THANK YOU!!!!mstang67, you won't believe how these puppies change in time. Their spots all but disappear and they become total fluff balls.
Maidenwolf, That little d'uccle mix has been in with chicks 3 times his size so I think he'll hold his own. It is a tiny little thing though isn't he? I am glad your family is happy. I totally makes me smile. Thank medawinks. She donated the two little hens to go with my boys. My other girls are still not laying yet.
I had better get off this thing and get busy for a while. I am feeling out of it again. I think I need a younger body to keep up with my ideas and plans.
I love my chicks they are just so precious and my kids are over joyed. That little mix is just beautiful. When I hold him he just looks right at me and lays down in my hand. My hubby calls me the chicken whisperer lol.Hi all! Oh goodness, things have been crazy busy! We went to Emporia yesterday and I got to spend the day with my dd. We made some banana muffins and shopped a little. I sure don't like the crowds, not just being in a city nor the holiday business. It makes me so thankful for the every day stuff here at home. We met with Danz for just a little bit to pick up chicks. Danz, it was soooo wonderful to finally meet you and you have such a beautiful smile and pretty bright eyes. I LOVE my new chicks so much, I know I'm supposed to quarantine and all of that but I didn't want to and they look so healthy and happy we just put them in with the others their age. They are hanging out together and seem just fine. That particular group of chicks is pretty quiet and not aggressive at all anyway except for one little roo in there but he's tiny and doesn't cause a stink unless I try to put them with the next group older. He isn't acting up with the new barred rocks either so all is well. They are outside, but I turned the lights back on for them to give the new ones some time to adjust more comfortably from the brooder to outside. Thank you so much for these precious chicks. From there, we were going to bring Maidenwolf her chicks and we stopped in Ottawa to go to Orscheln's to find my ds a coat. We brought all of the chicks in and I got to get a better look under the lights. Maidenwolf's chicks are so tiny, and their fluff looks so smooth. Obviously, I didn't look at them very close at all. I didn't notice mohawks or topknots, I wish I had been more observant. We got my ds a coat, and for a great deal too. From there we drove some more to bring Maidenwolf her chicks. Maidenwolf, it was so nice to see you again and thank you so much for your tremendous giving spirit. My kids are going to love their gifts and your wonderful handmade things that make Christmas even more special. It was great to get to meet your dh too. Your dd was so so precious and sweet, there was no keeping it a secret until Christmas, it just couldn't happen. It was so neat when I brought your extra chick in from Danz in my coat too. I was totally amazed at how you held that chick in a way that it could just leave if it wanted to yet it didn't, and you were so quiet. It was like you and the chick had this silent communication and it was so beautiful to watch. I have some lessons to learn for sure.
I don't know what time it was when we left Maidenwolf's, but we stopped to get gas and I realized that my purse was missing. I think I was so worried about keeping those chicks warm and going in and out of the store that I somehow just forgot it in the shopping cart at Orscheln's. I called there and sure enough they had it. It's really creepy to think that strangers have your purse and can and obviously did look through it to get my name. There was no way we could get it before they closed. Luckily, my parents live in Ottawa and my dad rushed out to my rescue. Thank God! We went back to Ottawa and got my purse from my parents, it was nice to see them even for just a little bit. We stopped to eat dinner after that, it had to be around 10pm. We left my chicks in the truck this time, mine are feathered and they did just fine. They tweeted gently the entire way home and it was so sweet to hear. I missed my chicks/chickens while we were gone all day. I missed my kids too. I wanted to go sleep with the little ones when we got home. We got home around before midnight, I was so tired I just brought in what I needed to. The new chicks slept in a laundry basket last night. It was so cute to hear the kids this morning, I could hear them saying there are big chicks in the house and scurrying around and giggling. We had such a huge day yesterday, and today is huge too but I'm so thankful to be working at home. I think I have everything under control for Christmas other than finishing 4 yo's kitchen set and wrapping.
Danz! I missed all of this puppy news when I was out running around yesterday! 11 pups and she's doing so well!!! That's awesome news!!What if you tried moving the puppies to get her to get up and move? Maybe you could put them in a basket so you can lead her around? THEY ARE SOOOOO CUTE! Look at their little pink noses! How big about are they? They're just precious!I saw some blankets at Salvation Army in Emporia yesterday for a couple of dollars each. I so wished I had read before we left. I would have bought some for you.
Chickies-duckies, I could use some. Can you save some for me and I'll let you know when we come to your area? My dd is living in Emporia. That's crazy about your goose. Hope she heals quickly.
Hawkeye, awesome cookie tin heaters. I haven't found any cookie tins yet and I looked at new ones and the shapes were weird. How did you cut the hole in the tin?
I'm going to try something different on our homemade incubator/hatcher now that nothing will be in it for a while. I asked my ds to hook up the thermostat again and to hook up the dimmer between the thermostat and the heat. I'm going to adjust the dimmer all the way on high and then adjust the thermostat to hold the temp just above normal temp, maybe 102 or 103, this will be my back up safety mechanism to make sure the heat doesn't get dangerously high for a long time if we have temp fluctuations in the house. Then I'm going to adjust the dimmer to have it run at the right temp constantly without going on and off. At least that's what I'm hoping for. I will update if it works as it should.
I gotta get back to work, I get on here and I have to read every single post and then I feel badly for what I'm not getting done on my usual work. My ds and dh cleaned out all the coops and brooders for me today that are outside. That was so nice, this has to be the first time they've done it without me. I did the inside ones. I'm going to keep my new hatch in until next week. I need to get another inside brooder ready for Maidenwolf's chicks that'll hatch next week. The humidity in the incubator is in the 50s now, I've been increasing it gradually. I added more water, I'm going to get it over 60 by tomorrow. The shrinkwrapped chicks I have now, the humidity was running really low. We were trying to hatch in the homemade one because I had the other eggs in the incubator so there was no way to lock them down. If I would have left them to hatch in the incubator I probably would have had a better outcome, at least they all wouldn't have been shrink wrapped. But then the incubator would have been yucky and stinky when Maidenwolf's hatch. I'm looking forward to these new eggs hatching, we're going to share the chicks. It'll be so nice to have some different ones than our typical mixes. Don't get me wrong, I love my mixes too. I was staring at them all sleeping today, they were all sleeping so hard after we cleaned out their brooder. They kids wore them out I'm sure. They are mostly black with 3 white/yellow ones and they are so shiny!
what kind of dogs are they, i think i missed that part lol, they are very cute. glad we can't have that many at one time lol and do it every year lol.mstang67, you won't believe how these puppies change in time. Their spots all but disappear and they become total fluff balls.
