After a great chicken field trip today i am delighted to report SVEN, is now on the 3rd rung perch hanging out with his new best bud Willie (well best buds now after about an hour of chest thumping and chasing around the yard and a few ankle nips from Fred the bantum). Flora the swedish hen ran right to his cage as i was carrying him in. Breeding pen 4 plex built and once runs rearranged tomorrow or tuesday, Sven will move to his new apartment with Flora and Hattie. Yippee Happy Day.

Frizzled Pink, I'm glad the rooster is doing well, keep us updated on him. I'm sure he is much happier not having to sit in a rabbit hutch all day. I felt so sorry for both of them, but I have no other options right now with all of my pens full & my new coop not finished. It was nice meeting you today also & your beautiful daughter. Thanks again for bringing the little rooster to me too. I have moved him into the main coop tonight & he's trying to get acquainted in there. The hens were all telling him he's low man on the totem pole or pecking order tonight, he will learn.

It was so cold out today, I just dreaded having to go back out there tonight & it takes me a lot longer at night to do all the chores, so I was frozen by the time I got back in. Thank goodness for the warm fire! I'm starting to thaw out a little now.

Today was not a good day and reminded me of how old I am. After battling the water and feeding, my legs hurt so bad I could hardly walk. I even took a nap which is so rare for me. I was supposed to go see my Dad and never made it. But DH works tomorrow so I hope to go in and spend a few hours with him and sweeten him up with some home made pie. I know he is feeling ignored but I just don't have the time or energy to take care of things.
I've been trying to research a new car as well and can't make up my mind. Translated that means I don't want to go into debt and have monthly payments.
My son just bought a hybrid car and I couldn't believe that it made no noise at all when it went into hybrid mode. It was pretty amazing. It even has a screen that shows how the electricity it is producing or using is flowing. Another feature I wasn't sure I liked was that you don't have to use a key. You just push a button. Also if you get close to the car it automatically unlocks without getting your keys out. I would worry about that function in case you didn't want it to unlock. And it has a remote start that you can do without even opening the door. I could see that on long trips not having that motor noise would be awesome. You could have a conversation without talking louder than normal or listen to music without road noise.
But when it got down to it it wasn't a car I would want. I need more capacity for seating and hauling things.
Today while I was loosing my patience with the watering and such I decided I have to have a poultry building. Now all I need is money.

Danz, my car has some of those features too, it's not a hybrid, but it does have the start button instead of using the key. You just have to have the keys with you somewhere to start it, otherwise it won't start & mine also unlocks when I get close enough with the key. The remote start is nice on really cold days, we use it some, but a lot of the time forget we have it because our other car didn't. That would be nice to not have the noise you have in the usual car. My DH is car shopping now too, his car is getting old & it broke down again last night on his way home from work. It's presently sitting at our Vet's office where he coasted in when it died. We just got it out of the shop two days ago & paid them $500 for fixing it, but it looks like they didn't get it fixed after all. I think he is looking at an SUV, which would be nice for us to have because I'm always hauling things & we could switch cars when I needed to & then he wouldn't gripe at me so much for getting the car dirty. I will hate having two car payments though, that will severely limit our vacations or do away with them for a couple of years probably. But you have to have transportation & I don't want to get stuck here every day without any car when he goes to work. I hear you about the money, I keep finding things on Craigslist I would like to have.... if only I had the money.

That whole cash for clunkers program really hurt us - it made the price of used cars go through the roof. I'm also off and on car shopping, used not new, and I can't believe what people are asking now for 20-30 year old cars with high mileage!

That remote start is nice on a cold day, to get the car warmed up before you go out there. A co-worker of mine had it on his truck and when it was his turn to drive when we were going out to lunch it was nice to hear it start as we walked into the parking garage and know the heated seats were going to be warm by the time we got in

. I don't ever have any of those fancy features on my cars - DH says its just more things to potentially go wrong and cost a fortune to get fixed.

I finally got my car back after it was gone almost a month. I felt faint when I saw the bill they presented me with, but hopefully it will go for awhile more now without breaking down again. It is so nice to have it back and have the freedom to come and go as I need to again.

Just saw this story on the news about the new laws for keeping chickens in Park City. They are still allowing them, but with the typical restrictions. Looks like we may have a fellow chicken-head to help out depending on how his visit to city hall goes about his now larger than allowed flock.

Thanks for that link, WichitaKidd. The reporter didn't get all his/her facts straight, unless something has changed. The article finishes with Wichita allowing chickens with a permit but the permit is only needed for more than 3 or 5 depending on who you ask (I found two different ordinances, one stating 3 and one 5 and when I asked Animal Control which was correct, they weren't sure so told me to assume 5). I had the permit to allow me to have up to 12. Hopefully the guy in the article will be grandfathered in and won't have to remove half of his flock.
