Hey, if you wind up with an extra frizzled mille fleur cochin cockerel that you want to sell, let me know! Or if you are interested in a trade for a cockerel for some more mille or calico cochin eggs this spring too. I have some decent birds from Wingshadows Hacienda, one columbian based hen from Ms. Bear and a few offspring running around out there.

Josie thank you for your help. I feel so much better about it. She is a sweet girl and I feared having to put her down. She is actually out of the coop today enjoying the warm weather. What a tease it is.
Here is a questions for breeders. When I seperate my birds by breed to get my pure breeds, how long until the sperm from all the other boys is gone and out of her system. I know it is weeks but what is a good time frame?

We are fairly fast at butchering. The only thing that takes a lot of time is plucking because we still do it by hand. One of these days maybe we will build a homemade plucker to speed up the process.
Sometimes the kicking is cute but like last night while we were watching TV it was just too hard! I can't believe something that small can kick that hard.
Our farrier is a sport. She is the scrappiest lady. She was pretty insistent that we finish him because he was trimmed on one side and not the other and she didn't want him lopsided! He needed to be lunged for about 30 minutes before she came but I lost track of time. I was pretty ticked off at him. He was just being flat dangerous and stupid.
Are you pretty fast at butchering?? The baby will slow down on all of the kicking when she runs out of room. Then she'll just stretch. Wow, I'm surprised the farrier continued to trim his feet. Mine would have called it quits! LOL Or so he tells me-- my horses don't act up, but he has lots of stories! BTW-- I have been using a new farrier (to supplement my regular farrier) and you might like him. If you want his name, I can pass it on to you. Nice young guy (married, has kids) but has been doing a good job on my Paints. I still have my regular farrier do my Arabian.

I am super excited about the breeder pens and have so many things I want to try with color mixes and all these things popping around in my head I am super excited

Josie I preferred kicking to ankles and elbows against my skin later on. One of my daughters used to run her heel as hard as she could against my stomach and it really hurt. I always kind of liked the kicking though. I guess it reminded me of the little person growing inside of me.
OH MY GOD! I just did it. I spent $700 on a trio of birds. I never thought that day would come. They'll be shipped next week. I'll just die if anything happens to them. These same birds are listed for $199 each as day old chicks on Greenfire and they haven't had any available for months. I also learned a lot about genetics from this guy. The birds he is sending will give me the best genetics to keep them going and produce the most offspring in the color I want. The original rooster he had, came from Dan Powell and the females were imported from Wales at the price of $700 per bird. I guess I'd better get to work on my taxes so I can pay for these!!! I also think I finalized a deal on the Breda fowl as long as she agrees to hold them long enough for the weather to warm up for a few days.
Hawkeye, the Breda fowl are wicked looked creatures. They have huge vulture hocks. Black or beautiful blue lacing. They have huge caverness nostrils, a tiny tuft on their heads, feathered feet, and absolutely no comb at all. The beauty is the no comb. Less to get damaged and or get frost bit. I am in love with their weird quirky looks. But they are also beautiful other than looked really strange.

Danz- these duccle olandsk chicks are turning out so beautifully. I am so happy with them. I need to post more pics of them they are developing nicely. I am not sure what the silver laced one is that came from you but it has nice lacing

I will get a recent pic but it also has no comb just a flat area not even a hump there.

Yes, I totally agree about the cute little bumps but sometimes it is all limbs and head in all directions as hard as possible and I feel like my insides are barely able to take it! She has started pressing something, head...butt...I have no idea really hard against my right side and sometimes it is for such a long time that I can't even sit comfortably and have to get up and walk around! I am just amazed that it went from little tiny tickles to such big thumps. DH thinks it is quite amusing and tries to poke gently to see if she will kick him back which doesn't always sit well with me!!!

Wow, you guys, don't let the wind blow you away! Builders are here fighting the wind, kinda scares me as don't want anyone to get hurt out there with the tin. They are putting the trim on, I wanted cream and red barn, but with the skylight material, being white, my DH decided to do the roof and trim in white . That's OK, cause the cream and white goat barns are behind this barn, and really can't see them that well.
I wish I could be making drawings and things, but I am such a hands on person, I have to place something, and then if I don't like it "MOVE IT" person. I have a pretty good idea where the cabinets are going, but I am waiting on the window. That is going to determine a lot on placement of some items. The windows are so important, I want as much natural lighting as I can get.

I think a person needs to let a hen set cock free for about 3 weeks to be sure all other sperm has been used or died out. I don't like hatching crossbreeds, unless its planned. Right now ever thing on the ground is crossed except the Q-tips, wyandottes and the rosecombs. I'm not hatching anything right now anyway. Wish the rosecombs would kick in, but everybody must be waiting to get moved to the new barn. Sure is going to mess me up with the fall shows!

I have not sent my entry in to Pryor yet, just have not got around to it. Guess I need to go out and take a picture of my paint silky. I beleive it is a pullet, and if it is she sure got a paint splatter for sure, She is cute though. Think she may have to find a new home. Unless I keep her as a broody.

I am sweating like a pig!!! I decided to quit postponing and drove to the lake and got some pine straw to put in the bins for the chipmonks. Well when I was putting the bin back in one of the little devils snuck out. They have never even tried before. Do you have any idea how fast they can run and disappear. I was all over this house chasing it and afraid if I just grabbed it I would hurt it. So I ran out and got a net but the chippy kept running in these little places I couldn't get the net in. I finally stuck some bluberries in the cage and she ran out the outside and I got her pinned. The cats were asleep thank heavens or this could have been really bad. I sure hope they appreciate the pine straw and the pine cones.
And Hawkeye while I was getting the pine straw I found a catawba tree. Most of the pods had the seeds eaten by bugs or rodents but I found a couple hanging on lower branches that hadn't blown off. Now I need a tutorial on how to start them. I think I may have bookmarked a sight once but I'm not sure.
Yeah Josie, I am crazier all the time. I guess this means I am going to have to do some more downsizing. I don't have much left that I want to get rid of other than thinning out ones I don't want to breed.
The bredas actually won't be any more than I paid for lousy eggs so I think that will be a fair deal.

WHOA! That is a LOT of money-- I sure hope they get here in perfect condition! Make sure before she ships them-- you all are checking the weather and that you aren't hitting a cold snap in there. Looked at the Breda fowl. I don't know, I'm not seeing the appeal of them. What kind of a site are you thinking of using? I know there are some free ones, and my favorite (cheap) paid-for site is GoDaddy. Can't beat those prices and it links to PayPal for payment. Of course, you can just arrange all of that in private anyway.

The barn is sounding like it's coming along! I can't imagine doing long sheets of metal in this wind! Yikes! I want to see a picture of your Paint silkie! If she's nice enough, you could take her with you to the show and sell her there. Depending on what she looks like, you might get $50 out of her.... if she's correct otherwise. I haven't even talked to my DH about the show yet!!! He has an interview tomorrow and I don't want to stress him out with anything right now!


Okay, I'm toying around with this logo for me, but I'm getting annoyed FAST because my program keeps glitching and freezing up. I can't hardly make a move without waiting 2 minutes in between. I need to reload the program I think or buy the newer version. Anyway, There is more to go on it, but this is it for now until I fix my program. This is not how it will look finished, but it's coming along. Sigh.

Her is my 3 month old GP. I cant get within 50 feet of her . she thinks she is a goat, and thats where she sleeps.......lol
Ms. Tarna already has a huge bark. She will be a great gruad dog for sure.
