Those eggs look the same to me in the picture Hawkeye. It could be a matter of different monitors and how they are showing it. I don't typically crack eggs to test fertility. I just do test hatches. I was just watching that video from the chicken doctor I posted the other day and they showed pictures of fertile vs unfertile eggs so I was going mostly from that.
Yes Maidenwolf I would say she is all d'uccle. They are much slower growing than the d'ulandsk mix. But there is really no other possibility on that one. But she doesn't look like she has very puffy cheeks? Could just be the picture. I have one male and I think 3 females left here in the d'ulandsk combination. I am planning to give the girls to Medawinks and have no plans for the boy yet.
Bullseye!!! You are set lady, have fun hatching!Well, I went out a while ago to see what she was doing-- her frantic search has stopped and she was sitting in a corner. I was really worried again, BUT it still seemed that she was active and alert while she was sitting there. I left her be and kept checking in on her. Still sitting. Finally, I came back, and she was up and running around like normal AND there was an egg in the spot she had been sitting in. Hmmmm... Okay, I'm still thinking she might have cocci, because of the runny poop and the whole listless thing last night. But I did start her on TetrOxy last night because I didn't have an Corid on hand. Then I force fed her the Corid this morning as soon as I got back from Atwoods... so I don't know what to think, but since Corid can't hurt, going to continue on with it and hope she'll be okay.
I took a couple of pictures while i was out there just now... going to post them, because I think they're cute. If this is fuzzy overload... Sorry everyone. Deal. Bwahahahahaha!![]()
Josie-- your girl is on the far left giving me the "eye ball". My sick bird is next to Josie-- the really spotted one. Her name is Miss Spot. Miss Spot is sandwiched between Josie and another girl. Miss Spot was feeling MUCH better in this picture. When they see me walk in, they all push themselves against the fence there and try their best to look pathetic.
The new black pullet I bought.
Miss Spot-- my "sick" girl. She looks like she's feeling much better. And I guess the frantic running around was because of the egg she was about to lay. I hope she doesn't become sick again tonight. Going to watch her like a hawk! I really, really want to breed her and have already decided who's going in with her.

Figures right? That is always how it goes. When we needed the post hole digger out of the barn DH's parents had dumped all the old carpet on top of of the darn thing. I mean, really?
Aarg! I'm lacking energy! I got the hardware cloth on the greenhouse. Back up plan # 1 completed. I've been trying to pull lumber of the trailer. Wouldn't you know all the plywood was on top of the cattle panels!!! Now I've got to decide where to start building.
Better get back out there.
I just hatch what I have available. Of course that could be anything from one to a 20 depending on how many are just starting to lay. I never shut down the incubator so I can always find room.Danz how many to you use to do a test hatch? My bator will hold 10
Wow you got a lot done this weekend. I'm so happy you got your posts set. I wish I could have helped. It was a miserable weekend for weather. I'm surprised you got that much done. I'm glad you are feeling better.Glad your girl is feeling better. Love Josie's "eyeball!" Silly bird!

Hi everyone else, sorry if I missed someone or something important and welcome to new folks!!
HEchicken- THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP THIS WEEKEND!! It was nice to get all the posts set, such a bummer that it was so cold and windy out. We didn't think anyone was coming so sorry for not having any goodies for food etc! I don't think I would have gotten out there at all if you hadn't stopped by because I felt so lousy and DH gets his motivation from me chasing him around telling him what needs done next!
I am so tired. I think I am finally on the mend from this lousy cold. Thank you everyone for wishes of getting well. It really sucked the life right out of me. Lots to do here this week. I need to get some serious cleaning and painting done so we can get this puppy listed for sale! Our t-posts still aren't in at Sutherlands so I stopped in again today and the guy said he would have the manager call me to see if we could work out some kind of deal on a swap for something that is available in such a large quantity. I just can't believe that they aren't in yet, it has been a month since we ordered them.
Birds were happy to be let out and fed/watered. Poor things have been roughing it when I am gone for a couple days. I hate to leave them but we will never get moved if I don't get down there on the weekend to do stuff. I need to get rid of a couple more roosters. I think I will try them on the facebook swap page first and if that doesn't work then craigslist and I guess worst case scenario I will have to butcher them. One of them was really beating on one of the hens today, I think they are all trying to mate with her and fighting over who "wins." Ugh, roosters.
I got the hardware cloth on the green house as I said earlier. Then after unloading the lumber and stuff from the trailer I went ahead and built my bottom frame for my hoop coop. It was a pretty quick and easy build except for the final corner. The long 2 X 4 on the side was warped a little and I didn't have the strength to push it in and fasten it at the same time. So it won't look perfect but it should hold just fine. Tomorrow I need to go get more feed and that means I have to unload another 25 2X 4's from the back of the pickup before I can go. My feed ran out really early. It should have lasted until Friday. I've got to get some more birds moved out of here cause I am going through a lot more feed than normal. So much for FF making them eat less. I'd hate to think I am doing all this extra work to use even more feed. Maybe I should cut them back so they don't eat so much. Geez!Danz, that is the stuff I used for hooking part of my hoop coop together also. There were some spots where I really couldn't use the fencing nails, so I just screwed on the plumber's tape & it worked great. I've actually using some of that today to hook my fence panels onto the front of the coop to steady it. I am so tired, I just had to come in for a bit & take a break & have something to drink & rest before I go back out to feed everybody. I pounded in 12 t-posts by myself out there today & I'm just done. I know I'm going to pay dearly for doing that, but I just have to get these pens up, help or no help. I got the north end dog run panel up & all 3 of my pvc panels I made today. I really wanted to get them all up, but my body just gave out. I still need to get the south dog run panel, the other outside one up yet & that involves pounding in 3 more t-posts. If it wasn't going to be so nasty tomorrow I would get my DH to do the rest. Maybe I can get him to change his gym day Weds & do it that day, it's supposed to be pretty warm that day. Can you believe it's supposed to snow tomorrow, geez I hope this is the last blast for this year. We evidently had some high wind here while we were out of town this weekend because my one tarp over my Ameraucana pen is torn to shreds & the one on the front of the big run is just hanging loose. After I get the last end up on the pens then I will have to cut my gates down to the right width & then put the fence on them. I knew when I put them together they looked awfully wide, but I just thought oh well I'll get the panels up & then cut them down to whatever size I need. My netting came for the top of the pens too, so I have that here to put on when I get ready.
How the heck did you do that? I can't lift our post driver and get it over the tops of the posts. Of course it is homemade so it weighs 10 times what a normal one does. If I could, there would be more fencing out here for sure.
Wow, with all of the hoop coops going up in this group we should all be experts at it by the time we all get done. I still have to build another one too, at least one more, maybe one big one & one smaller one.
I had let the turkeys & some of the guineas out this afternoon while I was out there working. The turkeys never go very far away & one of them was over at the door to the hoop coop "visiting" with the peafowl this afternoon. She was chattering away over there, it was kind of funny. I love the sounds those turkeys make.
It sounds like you all had fun at your night out the other night, I wish I could have been there, maybe next time.
Me too! I hate living so far from everyone.
Is your sister in the Topeka area??? There is a family that has a couple of VERY large greenhouses up there that i met last year and they have a wood stove that heats their greenhouses in the winter and they have several very large banana trees!! I mean, those banana trees are like 14 feet tall, or maybe taller?? The greenhouse is really tall, so I'm not sure how big the trees are. But they sell their "Kansas grown" bananas at the Farmer's Market up there. I'm just wondering if that is your sister??? If so, I met them and they showed me their greenhouse and it was awesome!!!
Nope outside of Olathe/Gardner --she can grow just about anything--I am so in AWE!!!!
That was Hawkeye - hopefully she'll pop in again soon and see this. I haven't used it...Hechicken what was the dosage you posted per gallon of water for the Corid?
