Hey, I'm putting in my first batch Saturday!

I have an ecoglow 50 and you can adjust the legs separately so it can be low on one end and high on the other. Sorry to butt in but there ya go.

Now Here are some pictures from inside my work room.

this is looking straight north, I was standing on the south wall. I can look out the windows, and watch the goats and cows if I want to.

Showing the south window, and drain. This is the south wall, and this is where the cupboards, cabnets will be. The incubator, and hatcher will sit somewhere on cabinets along here somewhere.

I am standing near the west wall of the main part of the barn. This is showing the west side of the work room and door.

So now the main part of the barn.

this is on the north side of the barn. I have two windows, a walk in door, and a garage door. These pictures were all taken under cloud sky conditions.

I am standing in the west door of my work room. This picture is looking southwest thru the barn.

This is looking east, it was the only garage door I did not open. It has a opener on it, and didn't want to fool with it. We got to get the electric run. You can see the back side of my work room.

This is really looking southwest, just to show the doors. Remember it is cloudy out, and no lights anywhere.

I took this picture to show the natural light in the barn. All doors are closed. DH plans to haul the dirt in for the floor, there won't be any light coming in below the walls.

Chickens will eat ANYthing. Epecially if it's shiny -- I would try to use a rake and see if you can't get most of that picked up-- at least in the area where they will be. Sounds like a lot of work. We have a HUGE party every year at my house for the 4th of July. People come here and shoot off their fireworks and we even have a DJ that plays music. We have a TON of trash left over from all the spent rockets, fireworks, etc... I spend a week with the kids every morning and most evenings and we walk the yard with trash sacks. We pick up anything we see, no matter how small. We've kept our yard pretty darn clean even after years of hosting these events! I will ocassonaly find something I missed from the year prior- but when I do my first mowing out in the back I take another trash sack with me so I can stop frequently and get anything I've missed. I have about 3 acres to search, and we manage well. Just anytime you walk out, take a Walmart sack with you and pick up anything you see. It's a real PITA for sure. I understand.

Not to disagree with Hawkeye. They will pick at shiny things and they love styrofoam, but other things around here I haven't had a problem with. My concern with things are things like string or bailing twine etc that they can get their feet tangled in. They used to feed cattle here and we must have 10000 pounds of twine and string and stuff that works its way up to the surface and the chickens get it tangled on their feet. If you can go over your lawn with a lawn mower without a lot of stuff being moved I think you'll be okay. Just be sure that anything toxic is gone The polyester fuzz and landscape fabric could be a problem. I wouldn't worry about a nail or pieces of plastic too much.

I was tickled today to find 4 midget white turkey eggs instead of just one ...or none. Maybe the girls are finally getting with it. I saw the boys doing the back stand yesterday several times, and HeChicken I do think they breed through their feet!!! Those poor girls were squealing. They weren't at all happy about the whole thing.
Today my Eastern Tom was putting on a show that I had never seen him do before. He was just absolutely beautiful strutting his stuff with his wings down and puffed up to three times his normal size. I just finalized a deal to sell my Easterns today and it almost made me change my mind.
I have almost 2 years vested in this quad of birds and now I am selling them when they are finally ready to breed. It's kind of sad but I love the domestics, so I'd rather use the pen space for them.
My peacocks were really putting on shows today too. It's like all of a sudden all the birds think it is spring.
I tried hatching for Easter the last two years and it was pretty much a let down for me. I realized that most people that buy for Easter only buy one or two chickens or ducks. And they aren't going to drive all the way out here to get them. Now if I lived in town or lived in Wichita or Topeka or someplace I would be hatching tons.
I do need to get started hatching ducks though because I an sell them all spring and summer by the hundreds.

That's a good one Danz! Yay on your Midget Whites laying! I wish my RPs would start laying now & all the birds I just moved into the new coop, that would be nice.

checoukan, That is so nice, can't wait to see your work area when you get your sink & all in there!


This is the front of my coop showing the new pens. They're not perfect, but I did the best I could with what I had & no help. We never got the plexiglass for the windows, so I just ended up for now putting plastic on the inside of the windows. I may do something different with them later on, I don't know. After we messed up on measuring the openings & the other windows didn't work that just kind of threw me.


Here's the back showing my doors into each room. I forgot to move the wheelbarrow with the windows I was taking to the shed.


This is just a shot of the north side showing my windows we put in. They're going to be nice this summer to get a breeze through the whole coop.
I'll have to take some pics of the inside tomorrow when it's lighter out so you can see how I left the top half all open to get circulation through. The birds can see each other when they're on their roosts, but can't get to each other. The outside will be painted when it's warm enough to paint.

Trish that looks great. I like the individual door to each run because that gives you more space inside for the birds. Smart. You've done great. Makes me want to get out and get some work done. If all goes well I hope to be able to do some more work on the hoop coop tomorrow. I'm still on the fence about how I want to finish it.
Next week any time I have I'll be building cages to take birds to Gardner for the auction. Seems a waste since they go with the bird, but if I make some decent money on them I'll be glad I did. I'm still tossing around ideas about what I am going to take for sure.

I need some help. A banty hen got ahold of some yarn and started eating it. Started in the middle so there were two ends coming out of her mouth. Reasonable force is not budging it, I cut one end offf thinking it might pull through/out better. It is not budging. I have no idea how much she has swallowed. there is "something" in her crop but it could be food also. What do I do now? She is a bit wild and not easy to handle.

all five chicks are doing great so far. They are pecking on each other, climbing over one another.
