Consolidated Kansas

Here are 2 photos. They where being stubborn and would not come out from under the coop where they where resting:

2 of them look just like this!

Here on the left you can see the other one that I believe is a girl. She looks alot different the other 2!
Here is a photo I got of the one I hope is a girl!

What do you guys think about these 2? I have thought all along they are girls, but I am really hoping so. The second one uses to have a black comb and now its turning reddish?

Lizzy I am glad you are okay. It's time to have DH and anyone else you can call on take care of the horses. The longer you can carry that baby the better it will be ready for the world. I am so sorry you had such a scare. I do hope you can go at least another 2-3 weeks without delivering. Is your husband going to be home without traveling in the next few weeks?
Trish the picture of Jasmine and the cats is adorable. I love that Calico cat!
AshnCarson, those black chickens look like one of each from what I can see. The top one is female. You can tell by the body shape but the bottom one looks male to me at least from the angle of the photo. Chickens can fool you though. I have a ton of them right now that have me guessing. My Breda fowl have no combs and their feathers aren't real distinct so it is next to impossible to sex them until they are mature.

I had a rather scary weekend. I spent most of it in the hospital. I was out enjoying the local fall festival on Saturday when I started bleeding. I went to the ER, and they took me to the OB ward, where I stayed until Sunday afternoon. They kept me for observation and waited on the ultrasound tech to get back from her out-of-town trip. I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor this morning and ended up spending most of the day in town. Isn't it amazing how a short doctor's visit turns into an all day endeavor?!? Anyway, Baby and I are both fine. The doctor thinks it was a partial placental abruption, which probably fixed itself before I ever got to the hospital. The doctors at the hospital were just being extremely cautious because it could've (apparently) been a lot worse. However, I am now under orders to "take it easy" and to reduce my level of activity (not easy when you live on a farm and have animals to take care of). My poor DH gets to take the slack... The doctor thought that the chances of the placental abruption happening again were pretty low but wanted to make sure we were doing everything we could to avoid it (even though they don't know what causes them). He also mentioned that, if it were to happen again, they would probably just go ahead and deliver Baby. That was kind of a shock, in and of itself, because I keep telling myself I've got 5 weeks to get ready. The doctor said that Baby could be here as early as next week. Kinda scary! I'd better finish getting things ready for Baby and get my bags packed for the hospital! I was really missing my laptop this weekend when I was in the hospital... I feel rather kind of lost without being able to hop on the internet. :)

SIGH....that is what I have been concerned about, with the chick in the bottom photo. I guess I just give up for now, live with them all and see what happens in the next few weeks. They will be 12 weeks later this week. I dont really have any other good body shot of this one.

Take it easy! Make sure you pack your laptop when the time comes for baby!

X2. We expect to hear from you Lizzy with the news as soon as you can! I can't wait to see if it is a boy or a girl.
It was another day I was busy all day and accomplished nothing.
I spent a good deal of the day tracking down information so I could take some legal action. Why on earth can't people just be honest and truthful? There are two kinds of people in this world I cannot stand. Liars and thieves. And usually if you are one you are also the other.
There's so much cheaping going on in here. I've hatched so many chicks the last few days. This is what I have hatched since Friday.

Take it easy, seriously, you need to delegate things now so you don't deliver any sooner than you have to. It's best that baby stays where it is for as long as possible. Let us know how things go & take your laptop with you.

I worked on finishing up things for my new pen today, I got a roost put in & a trough feeder in there. The pullets & the little cockerel seem pretty happy in there. I made two other troughs for feeders today too out of the rest of the plastic guttering I had left & put them in the two Orpington pens. They seemed pretty happy with them, especially the Lemon Cuckoos because they had more room to eat. That rooster is getting so huge & he just jumps in front of the girls when he sees food, he has no manners at all, lol. I can't imagine how big he's going to end up. How old are these birds Danz, can you remember?

Tomorrow I plan to work on getting my main coop cleaned out, that's quite a chore, but I really have to have it done before winter, it needs it. Then I'm going to work on my breeder coop. I'm not doing a total cleanout on those, just adding more shavings & they will be OK till spring. It won't be long before I have to start putting tarps back up on the sides of my pens. It seems like this summer went really fast.

I had a busy day yesterday but sure didn't have much to show for it. I spent a few hours in my garden....or what the squash bugs have left of it. I'm hoping the weather holds out for a while because the tomato plants are loaded with nice green tomatoes. I think maybe I have my soil a little too fertile and have produced more vines than tomatoes so far this year. The vines have grown together all over the place so the garden is a total mess. Maybe next year I'll plant my rows further apart and plant the vining plants elsewhere. Not sure where.
Some of the beans are blooming again and I figured they were finished for the year so I guess I'll leave them for a while and see what they do. I should have planted a fall crop. I picked a bunch of shell out beans from the green beans and the limas. They'll be good to throw in soup or whatever later.

I think we had the same problem with the tomatoes. Then when they were finally loaded with green tomatoes, DH went in the pruned the living daylights out of them. That shocked the plants and a couple never really recovered.

We're still getting a few beans, but not much more than a handful at a time. We planted a fall garden, but it doesn't look good. It's in a plot someone gave us and the soil isn't nearly as good as what's in ours. Only one squash survived, and most of the wax beans survived but are being eaten by something. Neither one will start producing before it's too cold, I think. Something ate all the beet tops when they were barely sprouted, the carrots never came up, and there are only a handful of ragged looking radishes that came up. I don't mind horribly, because it's a lot less work for me this way, but I was hoping to can some more beets and wax beans.

I took a pic of my new pen yesterday after we got it done. If you can't see in the pic there is tin on the top of it instead of a tarp this time. We had tin left over after building the goat shelter so I decided to put some of it to use. At least the water won't stand on it & bend it in like some of the tarped pens have done. We have had to reinforce them to try to fix the problem & I still have one that needs to be repaired. We used some pieces of 2x4 that I had left from building the side panel to raise the front up a bit for better drainage. It all slants back that way anyway since all our land slopes down that way from the hill behind our house. I have moved three Silver Laced Wyandottes & the little New Hamp cockerel in this pen.

I walked up yesterday to see my GP Jasmine laying at the back of this pen with two of her cat friends & one was giving her a massage. I just had to take a pic of it. When it's chilly out the cats often can be seen laying on top of the dog to keep warm.

OkieQueenBee, I hope you feel better today. Good luck on building your hoop coop. Be sure & take pics & post them when you get it done.

The pen looks great, and that's a sweet picture of the critters.

Oh how scary; I'm glad you and the baby are OK.

LizzyGSR like everyone else on here has said, you take it easy. You don't need to start being SuperMom until after the baby is born. Lots of rest with your feet up. Stuff will get done when it gets done.
Trish that pen looks good and secure. Do you put chicken wire on the panels? I hope to get started on mine tomorrow. Loved the pic of the dog and cats. I'm with Danz that calico is pretty.
I haven't had a real garden in a long time. I need to get the ground tore up where its gonna go so I can start working some compost in it. Would be good to get a green manure crop planted on it too. I certainly miss fresh veggies. I did get my asparagus planted this spring. We've got an apple tree that has some really good apples on it so I need to get some of them canned and dried.
Danz you have a lot of fuzz butts. I can just imagine the noise. Most of mine are in the garage, just have 5 guineas in the house. But in about 21 days....
Here's what we loaded into the incubator tonight.
