Consolidated Kansas

I actually lost a couple birds yesterday. Young but fully feathered. I suspect they just got too cold. There is no other reason I can see. They'd all been wormed and had plenty of water and food.
I am so busy and have so much more to do. I guess if I was more organized in the first place I wouldn't have to beat myself up getting things done last minute.
I had a get together with my sisters last night. It was enjoyable but sure wasn't much like Christmas. Today I've got to continue cleaning and cooking as well as my normal chores. I should be busy at it right now but need to enjoy my coffee for a little while.
I only have one breed that lays white eggs. I really prefer brown eggs cause the white ones stain so easily.
I know many of you will be busy the next day or two with the holidays and some of you of course celebrate on Christmas Eve. I just want to wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Gosh, our weather forecast for today sure has changed! The high for today is now forecast to be 50*F, but the winds are supposed to be pretty ferocious today... Winds of nearly 50 mph forecasted for today. I am not looking forward to the walk out to get the horses today.

Yesterday morning, I was awakened by an owl "who whoo-ing" in one of the trees outside my bedroom window. When I went out to do chores, it flew away. I wasn't so sure it was a good idea to let the birds out of the pen. I did so anyway and vowed to keep a close eye on them. They stayed in their pen voluntarily for several hours until some of the neighbor's cattle came to visit. The cattle got too close to their pen, and they decided it was safer elsewhere. :) Silly birds!

Sorry you lost a couple birds ,hopefully they weren't your most valuable . Lizzy- your forecast of fifty sounds great , we're supposed to warm up over the next few days too.

Merry Christmas everyone !

Merry Christmas everyone! I know everybody is busy preparing for the holiday with family, so I thought I would tell you now.

It's not as warm as they predicted it to be today & there is no sun, just another grey day here, blah. It's still 20 degrees right now, so it's only very slowly warming up. It's supposed to be 34 for a high today with it being a bit warmer tomorrow. Nothing has melted off here since it's been to cold to melt. My birds didn't even want to come outside yesterday, they just stood in the run & looked out the door for the most part.

Merry Christmas everyone! I'm sure most of you are busy with the holiday. For those who are traveling to see families, hope you have a safe trip.

Danz, sorry you lost some birds. I lost 2 as well. I think they are too cold. The rest of the flock seem to be ok.

Took a GP to get spayed. She ripped her stitches out after she got home. Took her back to have emergency surgery since she perforated something while ripping the stitches out. She is now home again with a cone of shame (vet's words, not mine... LOL) . Hopefully she will be fine for the next few days since the vet's office is closed for Christmas.

I don't think we will get to 32F as the forecast said. We've had about 5" of snow and it's not melting any time soon.

Lizzy, 50F sounds so warm. But the wind will make it feel cold though.

Stay warm everyone. Have a safe holiday!

I'm sorry about your GP tweety, I hope she's doing OK now. Dogs can be bad about doing things like that. One of mine actually picked at her sutures after her surgery, but it was long enough after for it to go ahead & close up. They do tend to heal pretty fast. I hope you have a Merry Christmas!

OT. We will be neutering our hoodlum boys on January 7. That was the first available date for the neuter scooter. (a discount neutering service out of KC -- $50 + $20 for the chip each instead of $140+ +50 locally -- there is a big difference between $140 and $380). They will just be gone overnight. I'm a little concerned about them since they ar so active when they play with each other. They throw themselves into running and slamming into each other. They may be spending a couple of pretty miserable days in the house when they get home. At least they are boys and the surgery is LOTS less traumatic.

If I didn't say so, we decided to adopt the fosters.

Blue looks more pit bully every day, Red not so much. I gotta get some help with dog training. They look innocent here, but .... We have put up fancy pet gates (with a little one at the bottom for the cats) on 4 doors and a cat door through one wall. I don't think they would intentionally hurt the cats (they could have and didn't on several occasions), but they want to play and they are so big that I fear a bad outcome for the cat. They know and obey sit, leave it (mostly), off (sometimes), and NO! when yelled. I really have to get help with dog training. I'm in over my head here.

sharol, they're cute dogs, I'm glad you're keeping them both. Are they both still young? If so they may have to outgrow the puppy stage yet. A lot of bigger dogs are still puppies till after 18 months. I know ours finally have settled down at 2 years old (my GPs). They still do even at that age run & play & wrestle in the yard & Jasmine chases the cats just to get a rise out of them sometimes. She is the most ornery of my two outside dogs. I know for us with all of the 4 dogs we have "leave it" is one of the most important commands for them to know & obey, it seems to be one we have to use quite a bit & all 4 of them know what that means. Our little dogs in the house, both under 10 pounds love aggravating the grouchy cat we have inside. She spits & growls at them as well as swiping when they get too close, so it has become a game for the dogs to bark & chase her & just in general cause her aggravation. They haven't & wouldn't hurt her, but it makes her upset at any rate. Good luck with the training!

They are supposed to be littermates (and I have no doubt they are -- at least they had the same mom ;-) ), 11 months old at this point. I'm guessing that IF they live to be 2, they will be wonderful dogs. They have soft mouths and never bite down when they are playing with the 20 lb dashchund (and they really play rough sometimes). I'm hoping some training and neutering calms them down. The puppy hysteria is making me tired.

I can relate about the puppy stage making you tired, I thought we would never get through that stage with the GPs, but they finally did & are great dogs now. It takes time.
