Consolidated Kansas

There is no way I would ship eggs. Mainly because I do a lot of selling on EBay and I do my best to avoid negative feedback, and being a retired postal employee,; I know how they are handled. The mail moves locally between post offices mainly by private contractors in box-trucks that have no heat in the winter and are oven-hot in the summer. I have seen several mail cages of live quail that were already on the truck when it arrived at my location, and had over two hours more before they would be transferred to another box-truck before they would reach the distribution center in KCMO. But usually live chicks in the spring and fall have good survival rates.

I agree Ralph I really don't want to ship them either. I have been asked to sell hatching eggs & ship them & I would just rather not because I know how the outcome would most likely be. Even the people who pack as carefully as you can pack still have issues just because of the handling. There are certain places I have found are better to get my eggs from because of less hubs they have to go through, less time, & less handling.

I have some silky, bantam cochin cross that have layed well throughout the winter as well. One hen will lay well for 3 weeks or so then go broody, I lock down the nest so she can't get back in and she starts laying again. It must be the cross part because I wouldn't expect either breed to lay so well

Ralph I am in the same boat. I could make a ton of money selling eggs I am sure. But for the same reason I don't want to mess up my feedback on Ebay. I thought of creating a second account just to sell eggs and such. I haven't done so yet. I do know how to pack eggs for shipping, but even if the postal service and contractors do their part you always take a chance on some inexperienced hatching and having people blame you for their failures. I have sold eggs through other forums etc and to people I know. But these people know how to hatch and know the risks associated with shipping.
When I buy hatching eggs I rarely leave feedback at all. I'd rather not leave negative feedback. I do however leave feedback for people who pack properly and follow my directions on how to pack and mark the box.

It has been snowing here all day and is back to being frigidly cold here again. One more day before it is supposed to warm back up into a more normal temperature range! Hopefully, we can get some of this snow to melt! I was out doing chores this evening and stopped for a few minutes to spend time with my horses. I was just standing in the barn with them while they ate their hay when I noticed what looked like a piece of snowflake-shaped glitter on my horse's shoulder. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a perfectly formed snowflake! So pretty! So, I ran inside and got my camera and proceeded to take a bunch of pictures, hoping one would come out nicely. My horse didn't help much as he didn't want to stand still, preferring instead to try to eat/taste my camera. However, I did get one picture that came out nicely, so I thought I'd share it with you all!

On a more bird-related note, my birds don't seem to like this weather much. More specifically, they don't like all the white stuff... They haven't gone more than 10 feet from the coop since it snowed the first time, more than a week ago.

Thank you for the compliment on my picture!!! The camera is an Olympus SP-565UZ, which is a fancy point-and-shoot camera (not DSLR) that I got about 5 years ago. I put the camera in Super Macro mode, but I don't believe that I can change the lenses on the camera... When I got this camera, I wanted a DSLR but simply couldn't afford one. This is the closest thing to one that I could find in my price range at the time.

I may be a little different than most on eBay feedback when it comes to eggs. I wait until I candle. I leave positive feedback if eggs arrived in good condition. If the box looks great, but eggs are broken, still positive feedback. But I use the comments to tell about clears, or if their packing could be improved upon.
