Consolidated Kansas

I'm trying to put a metal building in for my poultry. I plan to have pens plus a finished temperature controlled area where I can do my hatching and brooding. The building itself is reasonable. It's all the other stuff that is insane.

Sorry danz, that has to be really frustrating trying to get something like that done. I'm having enough trouble just trying to get a darned fence in for my animals, let alone a building. My DH finally got the first end put up yesterday & is starting to attach it to the t-posts now, it's hooked on at both wood posts at the corners. He finally figured out how to get everything working together. After he went & got the better fence stretcher & two come-a-longs he has done OK with it. It was just the getting there that was painful & took forever. I told him maybe this is a lesson to him to just get the tools he needs the first time.

LOL in my experience men never learn lessons. My newest problem is getting my sea van moved. It only needs to be moved maybe 50 feet but it is going to cost me $200. They guy that does it has property that backs up to mine and drives by here all the time so it's no big deal for him to get here. But aside from the insane cost I have to have it mostly empty. That thing is 40' X 8' and packed to the ceiling. All I can do is get a place ready to put it and empty it, have it moved to the new spot, and then repack it and pray for no rain. I have no place to store the stuff if it takes more than one day. Now since the rain keeps skirting around us I can see we'll have a monsoon season coming for sure because I need dry weather.
It's enough to make me scream for sure.
I have to go to town one day this week and apply for a building permit. Ten years ago they didn't require permits but they do now. I guess that way they are sure to get your new stuff on the tax rolls.
I think I may need medication before this whole mess is over! It's making me a tense bunch of nerves.

Day 19 on the eggs from Danz, and I have 1 healthy little speckled sussex chick. 3 days ago, all 8 of the remaining eggs looked good. Fingers crossed for the other 7.

That's great Sharol. Sure hope she continues setting for the other eggs. I hope the others hatch for you as well. My Barred rock hen that was sitting hatched a baby yesterday. I took her other eggs and they are in the incubator. None of them were that near ready.
I had visitors here Saturday and they are both planning to get barred rocks and sussex from me soon.
It's just awful outside today. No wind and so hot. I watered while ago and haven't lost any birds yet but some are sure suffering. There's really not much I can do about it at this point. I am at the point of screaming where it comes to getting this building done but days like today are the reason why I need to build it. At least they could be in the building with a high powered fan going. And just not having to spend so much time outside would be a benefit.
Yay! I just finally got a call from a concrete guy. He's going to figure up the numbers for me. I am smiling. I was so tired of calling people. I just hope I can afford it.

Congrats sharol, I hope the others hatch for you as well. I just love the SS, they're so pretty & calm, they're one of my favorite breeds. I have SS chicks in my brooder now from eggs I had shipped & they're doing great.

danz I hope things work out for you to get this work done, that would be awesome for you.

It was so darned hot today the birds were just standing around panting & crowding around the water bowls. I went out after my DH left for work & sprayed down pens, birds, & rabbits to try to cool them off some & it did seem to help. I also just sprayed down some areas where the laying flock were sitting so it would be a bit cooler. My rabbits are in the shade as well, but they still were really hot today. I think the shower helped. I can't wait till it cools down just a bit so they all can be more comfortable & I don't have to die just trying to do chores. I hate it when it's this hot, ugh.

I woke up to 3 empty shells this morning. She bit me when I tried to look under her to see the babies, so not sure whether any of them are barred rocks (only 2 BR eggs of the 8). The only one I could see was the first hatched (the others were cheeping, though. Love/hate hatch days. I worry about them all day. I'll be glad when they are all out.

Last night when I went to bed one had pipped and was cheeping furiously. I worried about it all night and checked early. Of course, it was fine. Still keeping fingers crossed for a good hatch.

When she gets done, I'll get a picture or two.

Congrats Sharol! Hope the rest are hatching nicely too.
1 more hatched (BR) and 2 pipped (one of them has been pipped for a while and isn't peeping, though.)

3 adorable SS's and 1 very cute BR at this point. It is so hot, she has them out from under her in the broody coop.
