Consolidated Kansas

Thanks! Hang in there Trish! Be careful! Hope you feel better soon too. DH has been doing my chores for weeks now. I'm still not up to doing them myself. Last night it started raining and we had to move all the goats. I think I overdid it rushing around, drying them off and moving them. Sigh. Guess I'll have to break down and take a long nap. It's the last thing I really want to do but if I can't get anything done anyway what's the point, right?

Did you manage to get your Lavendar Ameraucanas sold?

Yeah I'm trying to just baby this thing because I overdid the other day & have paid for it since. I have had another health issue ongoing with that as well so I have had to take it easy myself. I am getting the goats & sheep in at night but they run right for their pens with the promise of food, so it's not that hard. I'm hoping my DH doesn't have to do my chores for too long for one because he doesn't like doing it & for two I can't see how all of my birds are doing each day.

No, I actually still have the trio of Lavender Ameraucanas & it looks like they will be here till at least spring. They do need to go because they're taking up a pen I could use for another breed when they get grown out.

I feel for you with the losses, sometimes you just have to get a fresh start. I have had a few losses of birds myself this fall, it's really disgusting but you can't do anything about it except go on. On a more positive note I'm pretty sure we're expecting our first lambs. I'm so excited!

I can identify with overdoing things. Paying for it isn't fun at all. I'm like you I don't enjoy it when I can't get out and do my own chores. :(

That cold snap wasn't too good for any of my animals. I lost my only female kitten from this years litters right after it turned so bitterly cold. Right around the same time I lost my Araucana. I was really disappointed. She was a cutie and I was planning to keep her as I don't have any females out of her mama, who's my best mouser. I still have the little male kitten that I removed the bot fly from and he's doing great except for some sniffles. All my outside cats came down with sniffly noses after the cold snap and while the weather has balanced out a little were still having pretty large temperature swings.

We actually lost several young kittens this year to something that came through & the cold snap as well. We kept one black & white & one yellow & white. We have had some of our cats disappear lately. I do have one neighbor that hates cats so I never know if she has trapped or poisoned them.

Wow! Makes me thankful for my neighbors! At least they don't mind cats. Mine was a gorgeous gray and white tabby, fat as a butterball. Here's a pic of the remaining kitten.

That's a cute kitty! I adopted a Siamese mix male kitten but I haven't turned him loose outside yet. I really would like to get him neutered so hopefully he will stay around he's a cutie.

I made gingerbread chickens.

You should have taken a picture of them to share with us!

Prairie Fleur I'm glad to see you back. I'm sorry to hear you've been ill but glad you're feeling better. It looks like your pup has really grown, I hope he's doing better with the birds. It just takes time with some pups to mature & get over the puppy stage & then they're worth their weight in gold. I know mine are at this stage. Thanks for sharing the photos, I love that sunset one. I've been hurting myself again, I somehow hurt my other knee now the other day & have been suffering with that. My DH is again having to do most of my bird & animal chores right now & needless to say he's not thrilled about it. I'm hoping if I'm careful & keep resting & icing that it will resolve without any further treatment. I'm praying we all have a better year next year, I know this one has been the pits for me.

Yes, I hope we all have a better year next year. There's been enough injuries and sickness and loss of animals.

I can't wait to try again with some of the breeds I got from you, Danz! Seemed like between London and the hawks and who knows what I lost a lot of birds this summer.

I'm still waiting for my girls to start laying. Will they not lay until spring since they didn't start before it turned cold? I think they're at least 8 months old now. My BCMs from KS King Bee haven't started laying yet either. My older girls went into molt and at feathered out again but seem content to continue taking a break. Guess I'll just have to be patient! Lol

I can't remember if you have a light in your coop. If not, it could be that your hens aren't getting enough light. I don't think they'll wait until spring; if they're ready and are getting enough nutrients and light, they'll lay.

Cute!

I lost my best friend today. Marshmallow, my oldest Pyrenees, my special buddy had surgery this morning and they found her liver and spleen were full of cancer.
I can't imagine not having her here. She was the special dog I knew I could count on to protect all the animals and me. Prairie Fleur that would be London's grandmother. My other two dogs know something is wrong. I just don't think they understand yet.

Sorry that you lost your special friend. We get so attached that a loss is hard to take & some tug at our hearts more than others.

So sorry for your loss @chicken danz It is so hard to lose a member of family, sometimes I think the four legged ones are the hardest, cause we have such a short and loving time with them.
