I lost my best friend today. Marshmallow, my oldest Pyrenees, my special buddy had surgery this morning and they found her liver and spleen were full of cancer.
I can't imagine not having her here. She was the special dog I knew I could count on to protect all the animals and me. Prairie Fleur that would be London's grandmother. My other two dogs know something is wrong. I just don't think they understand yet.

Oh, Danz!! I'm So Sorry!!!!! Hugs!!:hugs loosing friends is hard. How old was Marshmallow? You've talked about her and she always seemed like such an amazing girl.

I am so sorry for your loss Danz. Our four legged family members hold such a special place in our hearts. Such a shock to you. I hope that your many treasured memories of her somehow bring you comfort. Hugs.

I am so, so sorry for your loss Danz. My special dog died some years back, and I will never get over it. In time, though, you can remember all the good stuff without bursting into tears. It's such a special thing to have a creature like that in your life and I'm sorry you're going through this.

I'm so sorry. She was such a sweetie. The only thing wrong with dogs is that they don't live long enough. My sincere condolences on your loss.

Hi everyone, had some gorgeous evening light the other day and I got a little shutter happy. Here's some of the results. :) my hens are still growing and I noticed my black BLRWs comb has gone really red. The lacing on my BLRWs has improved with them maturing at well. I did notice some feathers that looked kind of broken off. Not sure if it's just molt or what's going on. It was on several birds. I don't think its trom them pecking each other but I could be wrong.

Thank you all for the sentiments with loosing Marshmallow. She was such a good good dog and a total asset to my birds. I guess I should be looking seriously for a male to breed Britt to so I can carry on the bloodline. She just finished a heat cycle. So I sure hope nothing happens to her in the next 6 months or so. I never expected to loose Marshmallow this soon. She went down hill so fast. I assume it was a very fast growing cancer because until her last 4 days she was acting perfectly normal. My heart is still breaking. The other two dogs don't hold a candle to her in their guardian ability. She was only 6 years old which is really young to have this aggresive cancer.
I had mentioned I made ginger chickens for the cookie exchange. I had tried to take some pictures but found that my SD card wasn't in the camera. And then I couldn't get it to work for some reason. I had misplaced my other camera and finally found it this morning. I had one plate of the cookies left from the exchange. Of course these are some of the rejects. But you can get the general idea.

Nice pics Prairie Fleur, I love the peacock ones. Several of my laying flock is in molt right now as well as some of my pure bred birds & some of them just look pitiful. I got some feather fixer yesterday to have my DH dress the top of their FF to see if it would help some of them get feathers back quicker. My egg production has dropped to almost nothing right now, it's bad. I do have a light in the coop but with so many molting & some just taking a break even that isn't helping.

danz I love those cookies! Where did you find the cookie cutter to make them? I love the way you decorated them too.

My leg is finally starting to get better, keep your fingers crossed everyone that it stays that way. I've really been babying it & using a cane to give me more support. I'm still icing it & am starting to work on strengthening & range of motion. It has been so hard to get up & down, that's been the worst part with it. At first when I hurt it for a few days I had to have help getting up out of a chair, that was the pits. I'm hoping it will resolve OK without any treatment, I've had about all of the injuries I can stand this year & enough pain & therapy to last me awhile. I just want next year to be injury free & a good year for the birds, that's my early NY's wish for everybody & good health.

I bought the cookie cutter a year or two ago from I think the site was Cookie Cutters.com. I was buying cutters for myself as well as some gifts. I also have one that is a baby chick but there was only a rooster cutter and not a hen. The cookies didn't look like either when they were baked but the icing helped. I just painted the tail feathers on with food coloring because the royal frosting I was using kept falling off the cookies. Everyone there that knows me thought it was a great original idea.
Trish I hope your leg gets better soon. It is so inconvenient to not be able to care for your birds.

It's not that I make cookies that much any more, especially with my DH dieting while training for a marathon, but I just thought the chickens were cute. Yeah I don't like not being able to see all of my birds every day either, however since I'm going down to bring the goats & sheep up each evening I am somewhat checking up on them. This evening I took my 4 new hens up to the main coop to integrate them. I know the guy I got them from so they have been in quarantine but not maybe as long as if I got them from someone I didn't know. They have not stopped laying even after they got here so we'll see what happens now that they're on the bottom of the pecking order here. I really need some hens to take up the slack for those in molt right now. I'm just not getting enough eggs for my customers at the moment. I have to move some chicks to that growout pen tomorrow that have outgrown their brooder so I had to move the hens tonight. They're mostly Cream Legbars but there are 3 Buff Orp chicks in there as well that are getting pretty good sized now. It's time to get them outside where they have room to run around. They have been without heat over a week now so I've been preparing them. I can't wait to get them out there so I can get this brooder cleaned out that they're in, they've really made a mess of it.
