Consolidated Kansas

Well I got the news on my MRI this afternoon & I have a torn meniscus, at least one tear & maybe two. So I will be having surgery next Monday. I just want to get it over so I can start rehab. I've had so much pain this last year it's just wearing.
My husband has had surgery on both of his knees for a torn meniscus (his job is hard on the knees!). The pain before surgery was excruciating, the after surgery was such a relief. He was told 6 week recovery time but I was lucky to keep him down for a week before he was back at it!
Glad they figured it out. Good luck!

Sharol those birds are looking so good. The barring on those Barred rocks is excellent. My old boy still isn't 100% back to normal, but is doing well. I do think he broke his back or neck. The youngster is growing though. The sussex I got back from you looks better every day. He's still challenging the other roosters but starting to cool his heels a little. I do want him to learn some manners before he goes in with the girls. They're laying fairly well right now and I'm afraid that will stop if I change roosters. I think I'll wait until it's warmer out to take the old rooster out.
The head rooster who seems to beat the stuffing out of the others that free range is my little araucana. I really have no reason to have him out there but he's such a funny little thing. We spend a lot of time laughing at him. The girls just keep walking half the time when he jumps on their back.

Trish44, Glad it's getting taken care of. I know physical therapy will be a pain but at least you can start getting better now.

KsKingBee, it looks like you had a lot of help with the trenching!

tarabellabirds, thanks. Yeah I already had the same surgery on my right knee, I guess I'm hard on my knees as well. I have hurt myself more in the last couple of years than ever in my life. I hope that trend doesn't continue.

sharol, those are good looking boys. I have two of the Reece line Barred Rock roos myself, mine may be just a bit older than that one.

danz, that Araucana rooster sounds like a character. My splash Ameraucana rooster I have out with my laying flock is starting to mature now & yesterday I saw him with a group of hens in the backyard so he's starting to take over his job out there. I have a BCM rooster who is the main flock rooster, a Welsummer, & this splash Ameraucana. I'm glad to see so far (crossing fingers) that there are enough hens for them to share.

My Sebastabol geese are starting to make a lot of noise right now. The male is starting to challenge me when I get close to him. Up to this point he has been pretty calm. Danz does that mean they're getting ready for breeding season? I've never had this breed before so I'm not familiar with their behavior.

The boys will start hissing and putting their necks forward. They won't become aggressive or anything though. I guarantee they'll run if you challenge them. They are just putting on a show to protect their ladies. Yeah I've got lot of that going on right now. They'll act like that through breeding season then go back to normal. I figured out I have one of the boys banded as a girl that way. Some times the vent sexing isn't 100%. I've got to find a way to get that pen built soon or I'll have goose eggs everywhere!! I just need to get the corner posts set then the rest is a no brainer. I think it's pretty comical cause they do act scary but their big chickens!! The first time I was around JosieChick's gander I thought I made a mistake getting the sebbies. It was all bluff.
Yeah this araucana is a card. He sure dances for the ladies. He isn't a lap chicken at all but is the first to run up and get excited about any spilled feed. He's a gorgeous bird as well. He's a black breasted red. I guess if I hatched some of his offspring they could be olive eggers. Maybe one of the hens will go broody this year and do that...if he ever gets out of the middle of their backs!!!

The wind is blowing really hard today. I guess I should get out and get busy. I need to get those birds separated while it's warm. My buyer is wanting a count of how many roos I can sell him before this weekend.
BTW I do have some pure 100% English cockerels I paid a fortune for as chicks. I have some white, gorgeous red, and some BBS available. I sure don't want to sell them as meat. Send me a message if you are interested. I'd sell cheap as breeders

My dogs killed a big ole possum last night. Yay puppies!
I'm hating this weather today. Cold and windy. Sure makes it hard to feel enthusiastic. Those nice warm teaser days sure do make me hate the cold even more. It's very cloudy and very windy here. I wouldn't be surprised if we didn't get the snow earlier than they are predicting.
I'm trying to get psyched up to work on some plumbing again. I just don't want to go outside!!!

The pyrenees tend to prance when they do a good job. Like showing how proud they are. I discovered this morning that my newest male is scared of the geese. I guess we'll have to work on that. He was pretty beaten down and unsure of himself because he had been relentlessly attacked by a german shephard for months. I was afraid he wouldn't do good work as a LGD but he seems to change personalities when he is working. There is hope for him yet I think.
