I would love to have a pond as well. We had one at the last house but it would dry up during dry years too, think it also had a leak.

Gosh what happened to the forcast? Much colder than originally forecast! The birds are unhappy!

Took some pics yesterday in the sun though!

Love the background behind the white peacock because of the sun. My boys have been strutting their stuff recently as well. I worry the girls will start laying while it's still too cold. I lost several eggs last year to freezing. Since they usually lay in early evening by the time I found them the next morning it would be too late.
I noticed my turkeys breeding yesterday as well. That seemed awfully early for the midgets. I am going to have to get a bunch more straw for nesting soon cause I'm down to just a couple of bales.
The forecast for the rest of the week isn't very nice. Looks like a cold weekend. Today will be our best day. I really really am done with winter.

We have a new baby lamb! It was born some time during the night last night. Momma & baby are doing fine. I had thought there might be twins but there's only one. I can't tell sex yet because I don't want to bother mom & baby while they're bonding. I'll try to get a better pic later today. My silly buckling Peanut, in the right of the photo wouldn't get down, he wanted attention.

Who was it talking awhile back about oregano oil? I can't find the posts right now. How much oil to water ratio & do you add a carrier oil to it first?

Trish congrats on the oreo baby. Cool!! I think they were talking oregano oil in a carrier oil but dropped into the back of the mouth. I've been putting it directly in the drinking water and the birds don't seem to mind it. I've just been giving it a squirt. It may be the wrong way because I haven't seen any substantial improvement.
Well I got some chick starter delivered today and moved 15 more birds. 14 of those were chicks. Every little bit helps. We broke even on money so it was great to not have to dig out cash. I am down one more rooster. This one was sold a couple weeks ago by phone agreement and I had to wait for it to be picked up.
Slowly I am getting a bird here and there moved. I still have a lot more to go.
I lost a very nice pullet today for no apparent reason. I was just sick. She was doing great yesterday and when I fed and watered later in the afternoon she was sitting where she lays. She was still there today but dead. I couldn't feel a bound egg or anything. I just have no clue what happened. Since I had company I didn't do a necropsy. I really needed this girl. She hadn't been laying long at all. I have 4 chicks from her and a few eggs in the incubator.

I found my mature Reece Barred Rock hen dead today & the pullet is barely alive. Those darned roosters! I don't look for the pullet to make it either. I'm in need of two more pullets now, I'm in a pickle.

Congrats on the baby, Trish! Its just darling.

I am the one that uses oregano for my birds, its especially good for coccidiosis. Good antibiotic too.
You have to add a little olive oil or any other carrier oil. I can answer questions, but depends on what you are using it for.

Sorry to hear of your losses on your birdies. :( that just sucks.
Danz, if you are feeding mass birds, I have heard of a powder you can add to their feed, I believe pigeon folks swear by it. I will have to look it up but its oregano powder. Ropa something I think but I think there are cheaper forms of it.
I haven't used it personally, but the guy on the pea thread from Germany uses it because over there they have banned chemicals. I have thought of adding it to water but since oil and water don't mix well I wonder how well it disperses? Some chickens getting a good dose and others Nada, I mean? The one getting the good dose will be shaking her head and saying "Yuck!"

What I was reading today was saying they put the oregano powder in the feed, not the water.
