Consolidated Kansas

Sorry your news wasn't better, Trish. I'd have thought he would have recommended that instead of the repair this time. Who's to second guess doctors though? My wrist was bone to bone and I couldn't even lift a cup of coffee so you won't be able to postpone it when it gets to that point. It's like hitting a nerve with a hammer.
Today is the only day all week it was supposed to get above freezing. We are supposed to be hit with a major winter storm tonight and tomorrow. My DH only has one day off so I won't get any projects done this week. I was really wanting him to work on the building. My house is full of chicks.
I sure hope my customers show on Sunday and I can at least move a few of these birds.

Danz he didn't know how bad it really was in there till he went in with the scope to look. A lot of that didn't show up on xray or MRI. They had to clean out a lot of debris in there from the injury & the arthritis. That was what was causing me so much swelling & pain. I have to have insurance approve the procedure & this Dr. doesn't even do it. I have to do some research on my insurance side but I want to postpone it till next year at the least.

Well, today was a stressful one. Sigh.. One of the alpacas I brought home isn't eating or eliminating. She's still drinking and she did eat a couple mouthfuls of green stuff today but she's not eating anything close to what she should be. I spent hours out there trying things to no avail. Everyone I've talked to says how problem free alpacas are and that they've never seen anything like it. It would be my luck to get the one animal that that will have problems and no one will know how to help. I could cry. :he :hit and, of course, it's headed for the weekend. We may end up taking her to the farm an hour or so away and having them look at her just so we have more input. The other alpaca is doing wonderfully and is happy as can be and we haven't done anything differently with them.
Hosanna still has not kidded so I'm about ready to give up on her too. Little stinker! She probably just enjoys the extra attention so she's going to hold onto the babies as long as possible!! :p

Prairie she could have a blockage or a twisted intestine. That doesn't sound good at all. I hope she makes it through.
Trish I hope you knee lasts a lot longer than the doctor is thinking. One thing the doctors have told me is that rheumatologist told me was that the rate a joint deteriorates is something you can't prevent or predict. It will happen at it's own rate and the only real answer is that it will get worse but we never know when. Not very heartening but at least you can hope that your knee will last a lot longer than they believe.
Well things are coming together beautifully here. One of my Sunday customers asked to come last night because of the forecast. That was great and I got a few more birds out of here. Then I had asked another person who lives close to the second customer if he wanted him to pick up a couple roosters he wanted. The second customer couldn't make it Sunday, so he is paying the other guy to come get his birds. He is coming today instead of tomorrow which means warmer weather as well as I make more sales. Hopefully he will buy more than the two roosters and the population will go down more than I expected. I'm thrilled.

Talked to another alpaca breeder today who specializes in helping others help their animals and she gave me some more things to try. She basically told me I needed to be concerned but that full blown panic wasn't necessary. So here's hoping that today goes better and she starts eating. :fl I've been praying hard!!

I hope everyone is doing well. Seems like all my work time has been spend actually working and not checking in on my chicken friends lately. We had a long weekend getaway planned for this weekend and cancelled our Monday off because the weather was supposed to be so bad today. Sooooooo......we're sitting here with our window open, wishing we had gone ahead with our plans. As for chickens, one of our friends who build a new chicken house a few years ago was just getting ready to burn the old one because it has just been sitting empty. I asked if it would be worth taking apart and rebuilding. It's ended up that her husband is going to haul it over for us. It has room for a couple dozen chickens, so look out. LOL!!! We're going out to look at it next weekend so we can decide for sure where we want him to set it, get our run built and wait ever so impatiently for baby chicks. And Danz, we're going to have to get them before Orschen has chick days or David will be bringing home boxes full of them He's as excited as I am.

Yay Danz on the sales! I'm still waiting for my breeder birds to start laying well enough to start incubating. The weather is a really big factor in it all with it being so cloudy a lot of the time in the winter.

Yeah I sure hope I can wait till next spring to do this knee & I hope they don't make me fly across the country to have it done. Whose bright idea that was I don't know.

Prairie Fleur I hope the alpaca gets better soon. Hopefully it's just stressed from the move & it will be OK when it gets settled in. I know nothing about them but I know it's stressful for any animal or bird to move homes.

Just let me know when and I'll do my best to accommodate. I have around 45 or so chicks due to hatch on Monday. I have a few mixed colors in there and several breeds. The bad thing on some of the mixed ones is I have to let those feather out before I know what they are. It's only one pen that had mixed colors...not mixed breeds in it, but it still gets confusing. I also have a couple barred rocks in that bunch which are hard to tell until they get a few wing feathers from some of the orps. In a perfect world I'd be able to hatch all breeds separately. it's never going to be a perfect world here though cause I don't want to get any bigger operation than I already have.
I need to get off this darned computer and go out and sort chickens. With luck it'll be a good day to move several.

Well best laid plans. I got the chickens sold I was supposed to move tomorrow but the other guy didn't buy the birds I was wanting to sell him. So I spent time catching and sorting for nothing on those. I was really wanting to sell the whole pen I separated. Maybe in a few days I'll actually be able to count what I have out there in what breeds and sell some more.
It was much nicer than it was forecast but now the cold air is moving in. I'm tired so I'm taking it easy for awhile.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, Danz and Trish!!
My alpaca is doing a little better. She's eliminating altho it's really loose. At least I know she's not impacted now. She's still not interested in eating yet and I just can't figure out why. I need to take her temp but it takes 2 people and I'm So exhausted. I think that will just have to wait. Do parasites have a negative affect on appetite? I have a homeopathic worked that won't cause resistance in parasites that I can give just in case... Maybe some oregano oil would be in order if I could get her to take it. And my thoughts keep going trying to figure out how to help her..... A clear brain would help. I'm off for some rest.
