Consolidated Kansas

We got around 6 inches of snow which is on the top end of what they predicted. It melted quite a bit today but the ground is still snow covered and white. There's more snow predicted for the next couple of days.....or rain depending on the temperature, then more cold on Wednesday. Unless it changes again. I use the weather forecast as a guide but never count on it for sure.
Well Trish it will be like having a baby in the house for sure the next week or so. A friend of mine had 60 lambs total and is bottle feeding 4 of them. I can't imagine. Even though they are babies she has them down to eating only every 6 hours now. She spreads each feeding out a little more each day after the reach a week old and she starts them on grain right away.
I now nothing about lambs. I just know I don't want to bottle feed anything.

Well, I lost my peahen today. :( found her dead on the yard. Don't know if the cold was too much for her or what. They have the shed to go in and a dog house but they opted to roost in the trees. I'm terribly disappointed. My alpaca is still hanging on but not much change either. We may have to out her down if she doesn't start improving soon. :( and add family stress on top of that it's definitely not bee the greatest day I've ever had. Sigh.

Welcome Sand Hill!

Prairie Fleur, sorry to hear about your bird and hoping the Alpaca comes around and soon. Hope tomorrow is much, much better.

Danz, I have tried all evening to get those pics of Chopper on here but no luck. I knew that would give you another smile! I've even had the girls working on it but absolutely no luck. I just can't figure out what's going on with my computer.

I don't think it is your computer, I have had trouble all day posting pictures.

@Prairie Fleur , I bet you are soo heartbroken! I know how that feels to loose a precious pea.

My cockerel problems have come to a head. I haven't been able to find homes for the barred rock boys, and now one of them is getting picked on by the other br and the ss he is housed with. They got into it yesterday afternoon when I let them out after the girls went back in, and one of the other boys took a bite out of his wattle (and ate the piece, yuck, nasty little raptors). He spent the night in the storage area of the garage in a large dog kennel last night to protect him, but now I HAVE to butcher. This isn't my idea of perfect timing, but it is what it is.

He started the fight, but the other two finished it. I don't want him beaten up, but he can't live in the garage/storage area very long because it is part of the house, and because it is way too small for him.

While I'm at it, I'll process the other two if I can manage it by myself with the first one. It is really a shame because the speckled sussex especially is such a good rooster. Beautiful and thoughtful of the girls. Oh, well, I knew it was an issue with roosters when I started down this road.

Someone on the Topeka CL was looking for a couple of roos to add to their flock. I think it was within the last couple of days.

Thanks for the heads up. They must have pulled it. There are a ton of "free" roosters, though, and I'm not willing to give them away. I have too much in them. I guess I will be butchering today or tomorrow.
