Danz, I don't know what I'm looking at either. It looks like half a house. LOL, but as Ralph said, not looking a gift horse in the mouth. Just trying to figure out the function of its parts! It was wired for electricity many years ago. There is also what looks like the clamp from a hanging lamp in that area.
As for your gift, I think the wiring, your plans if you have written them out or an explanation would be a great gift. Or just give them the money you would hve spent. Sadly your time probably wouldn't be appreciated. They will have to learn the value of time and money management the hard way or they wont learn it at all.

Oh, and the reason for the metal on the floor is because the current metal on the floor is horribly rusted thru in places.Will see about adding something for traction before we screw it down. Thank you!

Well the point of doing the wiring is to help out the parents and the kids both. The parents don't have the funds to do this and they really need it to have the reception in the building. It would save them money they can't come up with. Neither of them know anything about electrical wiring. I may be just an older woman but I do know how to wire. So I doubt a gift of my time would be appreciated that much. But I really think the cost of the wire and fixtures would be a substantial gift. Maybe I'd have to make sure the kids saw the receipts for all that expense as well!!! I wanted to ask them today if they would consider it a decent gift but I didn't want to put them on the spot.

You know I saw a farrowing shed at one point that was made quite similar to this and had a metal floor. It was used to birth hogs and then was converted into a chicken house. It was larger but the style was very close. Maybe just some cheap linoleum if you could find some remnants or used stuff would work as well. Anything that would give them a little better foot traction. If you get a chance I'd love to see more pictures of the building. Curious minds want to know!!! I get so excited about other people's projects. It's a good thing I don't live real close to anyone or I'd be spending all my time trying to help them do their projects instead of my own!!!

Well this is the outside view.tThe guys were taking out that window and building nesting box. Pics arent wanting to load from phone. David says if I can give him answer on spray on truck bed liner vs linoleum by tomorrow he can get that finished up. Would really appreciate input.

Danz, so I'm with MsDebD. Have the parents ask them if they want the cash (cost of the wiring) or to have the apartment wired. That way, if they choose the cash, you're off the hook. If they aren't going to appreciate the work that it will take, don't knock yourself out, Sweetie.

Trish44, the sad truth is I candled on day 10 and couldn't tell.  I realized what had happened when the first batch did not hatch and that was only days away from the second batch going into lockdown. I thought maybe my temp had been low or something. My shells were so thick I couldn't see much of anything. What I did see was apparently the yolk and it's not like I haven't done this before. Heavy sigh. I'm going to have to use 3 or 4 lights to see through those thick shells. Evidently my girls have been hitting the oyster shell hot and heavy.

Danz, you're right it may have been the cold temps also. Anywho, we've been putting in raised beds and for once DH got interested in "helping us" because we were going to use those bricks that have been sitting around forever and when he saw all the work we'd done, he declared he was planning to use the bricks for his walkway to the shop. Whereupon I thought to myself "What year?" So we had to take all of those bricks and put them back, wait on him to build the beds out of all the boards he has lying about. I am not allowed to use the saw myself because "he would never forgive himself if I got hurt". Okay, but I'm not planning to manicure my nails with it, I just want to cut some boards!  Anyway, then we had to change the size of the beds because they were now going to be 4' wide instead of 5' wide which meant lots of manual digging because you know how long those beds are. Okay, enough grousing. The upside is that he is really into helping now and is plotting out the watering system, so all the schlepping of bricks turned out to be worth the effort because he is putting together a drip irrigation system for us so we don't have to attempt to keep up with the hoses!  

That's pretty much why I haven't attended to my email, so tired and sore and occupied with a houseful of teens and a couple tweens still mad at their sister, then new chicks came, etc., etc. Sorry, girl!

Tatinatimom, that's how chicken math works around here too!  I had 51 chicks in my bators, one hatched, so I bought 56!

Deerfield you crack me up!! However, I gotta admit I like the way you think!
So out of the 48 eggs that made it to lockdown, 37 hatched, but 4 of those were pretty weak and didn't survive. We still have a total of 37.... Yep that's chicken math!

Lots of people use linoleum, but personally I think it might be a little slick as well. I put it in one chicken house and it was fairly slick. I put another piece in another house and it had more texture and worked great. If I were doing it, I'd probably use spray on bed liner. But if you have linoleum to use without spending money and want to save $$ use it. I think I love your hubby. He is really doing a great job of fixing you up. How come I have to pull teeth and usually at least start a project then complain for months before I get help?
Deerfield, you're probably right. I just really want my friend, the groom's mother to quit worrying. She seems to be having to do and plan every thing for this wedding. No one else is stepping up to get things done. Talk, talk, talk, but no other prep for it. I feel so sorry for her. I think the family is so used to having her take care of everything, because they know she will, they do nothing. It's too sad. Poor woman has diabetes, has had heart bypass surgery and breast cancer and the rest of them push every thing off on her. Worse yet she is younger than I am. It makes me really angry so I am thinking more of helping ease some worry than anything. So far I've seen the rest of them watch tv and talk a lot. Grrrr!
