Consolidated Kansas

@chicken danz - Totally agree. At this point he's not super impressive. But, when he grows up and looks like his relatives - he'll be amazing.

That's sad on your loss. Our rain here hasn't seemed to quit. I let them out of their run early anymore so they can find a dry place to hang out. They can go under the coop, but for some reason they prefer walking around in the mud that used to be there run.

BTW- The two barred rocks from you are getting huge. They are beautiful.

Pretty quiet today, so I'll ask a silly question.

I have 9 Orp babies. This little BBS is 17 days old the lavender behind him is 3 weeks old.

Am I jumping to conclusions about his gender? His comb is nearly twice the size of any of his siblings.

Is it too early to look at comb development? I hope so since he is the only BBS that made it.

This is one of the 4 jubilees: They all look pretty much the same in development.

And this is the only white chick: She seems to be developing feathers faster than her siblings. Hoping for a pullet. She is already flying.

sharol, I don't think you're jumping to conclusions. Looks like a cockerel to me.

I'm sorry.

Sharol that BBS does look a bit boyish. Darn Orps anyway. Yes it has been very quiet. I thought ZigZag and I had been carrying the converstion so I decided to wait for someone else to post. I've been out working today. Or more like tearing things up. I've been trying to mow the jungle but the tall grass and weeds are just too much. I have to mow everything at least three times and then I leave stubbles. I also have to keep bringing the mower back and laying on the ground and cleaning out under neath it cause the wet grass is making the belt stick and smoke.
I had run over a pulling strap and was going to try to lift the mower with the Bobcat. I hadn't used the Bobcat at all because of all the mud and water. Well I should have left it alone cause now I have it stuck and can't move it. Needless to say I'm not happy.
I have to unclog the mower again before I do more but decided to come in and take a coffee break before I tackle it again. I sure wish it would dry up around here. Can't wait to get in the shower in a bit. I feel like I have bugs crawling all over me.

Getting lots done around here! Processed 17 birds in 2 hours this morning. That's making pretty good time. The other half of the crew hauled away branches we trimmed from trees and hauled in mulch since Asplundh has been slow with their delivery. We've weeded, watered and checked on birds a million times. Really warm out there today. Planning to process some more birds after supper but we'll see. That may get postponed till morning.

Danz, has it dried up at all, or are you still getting rain?

I thought I had picked my 3 chicks to keep and then I get second thoughts.

Here are the 3 original, and then at the bottom is the one I can't decide about.

The one on the left I love and her bright yellow feet are so cute....so its either this one or the white one!

I wish I could just keep 4!

Wow, that's great, 17 in 2 hours!

Danz I am sorry about your lavenders, and that the weather just isn't giving you a break. I hope things start drying up!

Today we got our fishing licenses and updated our tackle boxes. I am so excited to go out tomorrow! Haven't decided where yet, but IT IS HAPPENING!

Thanks! We finished up all the birds last night for a grand total of 43 birds. The last group took 3 hours from start to clean up. Woot!

I used to go fishing with my Dad, such good memories. My DH doesn't fish so my kids really don't know how at all, which is too bad. Have fun!

ashncarson, Very tough call there, I can see why you're having a difficult time. My vote is... ... ... ... ... ... ... okay, it's the black and white.

AshnCarson, I can't answer you on the birds. Follow you heart.
RVRoman, I used to love going fishing but it's been over 15 years since I've gone. I still have some fishing gear.....some where. My middle son took most of it. He is the piscatorial member of the family. I wish my pond were stocked with something besides stupid snapping turtles.
Deerfield that is an awful lot of birds to process. I don't think I could handle that many. It sure helps having all those hands around there.
I ran out of gas again last night and still have some more mowing to do but slowly I'm getting there. I need to go buy a big jug of roundup next week so I can get the rest of this mess tidied up. We have clover returning which used to really drive me nuts but I welcome it now cause it's a great plant for bees and birds. Sure would be great to have it grow in some of my barren spots left by the years of drought and choke out some of the weeds. I got some of the panels down yesterday as well where all the mold has formed in the pens. I didn't move them cause I was out of energy and still am not sure where on earth I am going to put them. I need the space to grow out some birds but I just don't have a convenient spot right now.
Decisions...decisions.
