Consolidated Kansas

I had a busy day today. Tarabellabirds was here and it was a pleasure to meet her. I drug her around on a quick tour. She got some chicks I hatched for her and a few of my project brahma boys to do her magic on. But I accidentally overcharged her and now I feel like an ultimate jerk.
While she was here TakenBackBre arrived. As usual we had a great visit.
Then I came in the house; about that time a local friend showed up to get a pullet I saved for her. Kind of payment for use of her skid loader and some straw. Then while she was her another local person showed up to get hatching eggs for a school class to set.
Full day and I didn't get my house cleaning done. I did manage to get the birds watered and some of them fed. Had to come in for a cup of coffee to boost myself up a little before I finish feeding.
it was a great day all in all but now I'm tired.
I had some stragler chicks hatch and got those put in a bin in the house. There's an awful lot of cheeping going on right now. First day out of the egg!

It was so nice to meet you today! I love your setup and your birds are amazing. Don't worry about the money, I'm certain I will see you again LOL
I got the older boys settled in, they were a bit travel worn but were active and hungry! The Brahma babies are SO precious. I just can't wait to see how they turn out!

I should have given you more of them. I had another row of 6 eggs that were marked due today but the breed wasn't marked on them. Guess I was late getting them in because they are hatching and they are all black brahmas. I guess I'll hope someone needs some. They tend to sell themselves cause they are awesome birds. But those hens look pretty bare right now. I need to sit down for a few days and make about 100 chicken saddles. I had purchased several but they don't stay down like the ones I made or cover far enough down the sides. I think most of my girls are broader than a lot of chickens.
I woke up feeling sick. I guess it must be rag weed season. My throat is so sore. DH has had a cold or something but I don't know if it was anything contagious. I really don't have time to be sick. It sure would be nice not to have so many allergies. Fall is one of those seasons I tend to end up with bronchitis from all the pollens. Surely the flu shots will be out before long. I normally try to get mine fairly early cause I am considered high risk. I may try to get that new pneumonia shot this year as well.

They truly are awesome birds. I wish I had taken some pics, but I was too busy oggling those colors!

The saddles I've bought aren't made for Orps or Brahmas! They never seem to go far enough to the tail. If you make extra I would so buy some for my poor girls.

My allergies have been hell this year as well, started in Jan and haven't let off since! My coop is finally getting some much needed attention. I friend helped me clean out the brooding room and the brooder box last week. I also got the breeding pen cleared out so I could put my broody Buff Brahma in there with her clutch. I struggled with the option of putting the new Black Brahma babies in with her.
It is just so hard to regulate brooder temp in this heat. This is a first time broody, but since I secluded her in a breeding pen I wasn't too worried about her not being able to handle them. So last night, after electrolytes, food, and a good rest from travel, I tucked them under Mama. I went out 3 times during the night and bright and early this morning. The Buff didn't look a bit daunted by the doubled brood LOL. She started with a 3 day old orphan, then 24 hours later 6 of her own, and now the 6 Black Brahmas! I'll post some pics later, she is calming down around me, and very diligent with them.

Here's a picture I took of the black brahmas before I moved them inside and picked the ones I wanted to keep for breeding. Not a great picture but it's all I have right now. I have since picked out the best girls and sold the others.

I'm really not patient enough to do much sewing. Maybe if I can do a bunch in an assembly line I can make some saddles that are more suitable. I am thinking of putting a weight on each side to help hold them in place. Not sure what to use just yet. I think I will just add some fabric to the ones I bought so they cover better.
The birds haven't had much care or attention today. Since I was feeling crummy I've been cleaning the back hallway and utility room. It needs lots of attention for sure. It makes me grouchy to clean up clutter. When I don't feel good I am grouchy so I figured it was an excellent time to do it.

danz I clean when I'm mad, it's amazing how much I can accomplish then, I can relate.

I was gone all afternoon & now I need to go feed, this day was shot. It's a busy week this week so I doubt I accomplish much till maybe Friday.

Pics don't do those colors justice! They are so striking!
I am going to give your project boys a few days to settle in before I work on them. What sucks is as soon as they start to trust me I will most likely lose it after the precedure, oh well. They will be pampered babies afterwards!
I'm up this early so I am going to make some breakfast and go let the birds free-range till it gets hot.

No the pictures don't show the pretty iridescent black that they really have. Maybe after the girls molt and get some butt feathers back in I'll take a new picture.. I always intend to do that with all the birds but never seem to get it done.
Those boys you got are going to be beautiful birds when they grow up and get a chance to feather in. I think they'll make wonderful capons cause they should also be big birds anyway. I wish you were closer. I could probably keep you supplied in all the boys you need to sell your customers.
I still have to sex several more of those birds. It's just finding the time to do it.
I have to find someway to get my goose fence installed. DH is getting so angry with them and the ducks for taking all the dog and cat food. Of course if he had helped me get it put in a couple years ago we wouldn't have this problem. I love having them where I can watch them but he's not a fan! I think if I could just get my corner posts all put in I could finish the rest on my own.
I've got another busy day today. It's been one of those weeks so far.

We have been working on a new/old project, it might even be done in a couple of days if the wind would wind down. Got the posts set in concrete, 48' x 48', the top netting and all the materials to finish it up.

Now to figure out why DW keeps calling it 'The garden'?

Only a few more eggs to hatch out yet this year, the hens have stopped laying a couple of weeks ago.

We are looking forward to shipping lots of these young ones in a couple of weeks.

@KsKingBee I envy you having that work done. I have a 70 X 50 divided pen to put in. It will have 14 runs so there's going to be a ton of posts to set. I have 5 eggs right now In the India blue's pen. I've been waiting to see if the oldest hen will sit. She normally does. I still have maybe 10 in the incubator. Haven't candled them though to see if they are developing. I quit hatching turkey eggs too. I really would like to shut the incubators down for a couple months. It's been at least 5 years since I shut them down entirely.
DH has been working n my new peafowl pen and it's going really slow. I am just letting him do it the way he wants. I would have had it done by now if I were doing it but we work at a different pace. Not even started on the big pen and I have a lot more dirt to haul in before I begin setting posts. I just never find time to get it all done.
