Consolidated Kansas

So sorry about Fluff. :(. Maybe he will still turn up somewhere. Keep an eye out for someone selling one I guess? Incase he was stolen.

That whole peacock story was nice but why people feel the need to lie about useless things bothers me. Haha.

I put 18 more chocolate orp eggs in the incubator even though I swore I wouldn't. Ugh. Lol

How much time do you have left now, Bre? I'm anxious for you. At least you got a few days of cooler weather. You know what a big lover Fluff is so it would have been easy for someone to take him if they could lift him. I hate feeling so suspect. I had posted on some local swap pages about him and a person living in Waverly asked his name. I wanted to say, "Why do you need to know if you don't have him?" It's sad that I feel so much distrust for people.
I know what you mean about hatching. How are your other eggs doing? have you candled them? All I have set recently is my partridge orpington eggs. I decided I should probably set a few more mottled orp eggs since I need more girls. I really didn't want to set them when it was hot cause it seems all I hatch in the hot weather are cockerels. I only have one hen laying and the other is in molt. I have one young cockerel who turned out looking great but I need some more girls bad.
I was going to do dirt work again but ended up spending hours adding chicken wire to the inside of a hoop coop. All of a sudden I have become worried about how secure my pens are because I always knew Fluff had the stuff near the house. I found a young turkey that had been eaten by a possum last night. We have killed so many of them I have no idea how there could still be any in a 20 mile radius.
Well break's over. I have work to do... darn it.

Next Tuesday is the big day! I don't know if I'm completely prepared but I am ready lol.

We had a big very old rescue mastiff once. She was a big huge love bug. She patrolled our property at night and all day while I was still in the army and did a wonderful job. One day she went missing. We put out ads in CL, FB and paper ones at local places. 3 months later we picked up our current big guy a Saint Bernard. The mail lady commented on him and I said it was time since the other had went missing. She looked at me confused and said "she's just down around the corner". I couldn't believe it!! So I went over less than 2 miles away and asked after her. But the woman who was home said she hadnt seen her. 3 more months went by and that house sold to a new couple, an army couple. I came home from work and found old girl on the yard. Horribly skinny and sore because she had arthritis. I couldn't believe it. Well the next day the soldier came by asking if we had "his" dog. I explained what happened and told him I wouldn't be giving her to him under any circumstance because she wasn't in good condition. Thankfully he left it at that. She only made it another 8 months home with us. she was assumed to be 9-10 according to our vet. We were happy to have her back but sadly we don't get along with our neighbor now due to this incident.

I haven't candled eggs. I usually leave it for lock down. That'll be Friday. :)

Wow! Be sure to let me know or at least post on FB what you had! Still betting girl! Good luck on your hatch as well.
I've decided to go walk the fence line on my neighbors property just in case. He is rarely here. I would prefer to ask permission. I noticed yesterday his rental farmers were doing some harvesting but not on this side of the creek. I hope to catch them as well. I really wish I had a four wheeler cause it would be a lot easier to check things than walking several miles. I need to clean chick bins as well. I have about 5 chicken eggs and one peachick that is due today. No room left in the bin I am using right now.

Well I caught the farmers yesterday when they were getting ready to combine the field next to me. I asked them to keep an eye out for Fluff's body. They found his body about 30 minutes later. To make a long story short he was deceased and not in good condition. There's no way to tell what happened to him but because of where he was I am going to assume he was chasing off a predator and had a heart attack or something. I'm comforted believing he died doing something he loved. So I spent most of the rest of my day digging a grave and burying his remains. Very sad day but at least I know longer have to wonder. I keep asking myself why I let myself get so attached to these animals and love them so much.
I guess I have to get back to the grindstone today and catch up on the things I got behind on yesterday.

I'm so sorry danz, sending hugs your way.

Just for fun I thought I would post my two favorite pictures of Fluff. First shows he and Cloud (who is also deceased) were true chicken dogs. Second just a shot of him on my front porch. RIP Buddy!

Danz I am so sorry for your loss. I know what you mean about letting yourself get so attached. The best gift we can give them though is our love so I will keep on loving my critters. I am glad that you at least found him and can have some closure. That not knowing is so hard.

I haven't posted lately but I do read the posts and want to thank you all for the knowledge that I have gotten from all of you. My flock is doing well but the egg production is down already gearing up for winter. There sure is a high demand for farm fresh eggs though.

Have a great day everyone!

I wish I had a little more demand. I quit selling eggs as a business because it didn't pay well and I had trouble in off season providing egs for my customers. Right now even with girls in molt I have a huge stockpile of eggs. I need to do some cooking and freezing with them but finding the time is really hard. I keep thinking a few angel food cakes should be in my near future.
