Consolidated Kansas

Danz good luck with your surgery tomorrow. I am hoping for a quick recovery for you. I sure wished that I lived closer to you so I could volunteer to help you out a little. Take care of yourself and most importantly please follow doctors orders. The recovery from back surgery is so important.

I lost a hen today for unknown reasons. I wish I knew what happened to her. She wasn't feeling well a few weeks ago and I isolated and babied her. I thought that she was doing better and saw her looking for a place to lay an egg a couple of days ago. I wonder if there was something wrong along those lines or something. I wish I knew more, I would do a necropsy, but with my lack of knowledge it would be a waste of time. She died out in the open yard so it wasn't like she was sick and stayed in the coop or run.

A family member posted on facebook that she is out of ICU with no breathing assistance and planning to go home Sunday.

Hello Dani here
Am brand new to chickens and we are trying to decide if we should get our chickens now ( local feed store has a mix of chicks) or if you suggest waiting until Jan? We already have our coop which will hold 6 egg laying ladies from a neibor. Thank you
. I hatch for fall for myself. So that all the "wasted time" growing the pullets to laying age is during the months when the chickens don't lay well anyway. I hatch for spring for all the chick buyers. Just my 2 cents.

So glad Verna is doing better. :)
