Wow that was a pricey one. I just use heated dog water bowls. I had one heated waterer before and didn't like it at all. I do have a heated base which is pretty useless and uses a lot of wts. I made some cookie tin heaters that work much better and use less energy. But I don't use those any more either.
All the holidays used to be a huge affair here. But once the kids got grown and moved away and or got married I had to learn to do without. I had planned to just treat today like any other day until my siblings who also got abandoned by their children decided we should all get together. Sometimes it's nice not to have to do all the work and prep and just have a quiet stay at home day.

We just got some ayam Cemani chicks. Not a breed that I was really interested in and I couldn't see paying that kind of money for a chick. But I won them along with some silver laced orps I was bidding on for a benefit auction so now I have them. These chicks are fairly good quality appearing all black atm. I'll have to post some pictures. I still don't know what I'm doing with them.

Do you want to sell the Cemani's? Did they give you any background of the lines? Thanks

You can't use the dog bowls in the coop, and that is where I have the waterer. I haven't run any power to the run. Yeah, it was expensive.

Curious. Why not? I have used mine in the coops several times. Although I prefer to have no waterers in the coops at all. I figure they can walk outside to drink unless there is a foot of soft snow out there.

@TakenBackBre, do you want to sell the Cemani's? How many did you get? I'd be willing to drive to you if they are pure and the price was right. Thanks, Jerry

They are pure. I'm not totally sure about selling them yet. Quality seems good. I haven't inspected them too closely though. I have 5.

Happy Thanksgiving (or as Henry Standing Bear in the Longmire book series would say, happy Thankstaking.)

I'm putting out the heated waterers in the coops. I bought a new one, and if it works out, I'll post a review here. I like plastic so that I can use ACV in the water, and the only one available before is a nightmare to set up. The new one is MUCH BETTER if it works like it is supposed to. http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B015IYDANQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 is the link to the new one. It isn't cheap, but if it works, i'll stay dry when I'm changing it out.

We are going to a community dinner in Reading today (first time for that) since all the kids are elsewhere. Used to do a big dinner for both sides of the family, but those days are over. I'll shake off the depression and get to work.

I just looked at that waterer, wow that is pricey! I hope it works for you, the only review on it was not a good one. I'll stick with my heated dog bowls, I have way too many pens to try to buy anything more expensive than that & even those I try to get on sale. I did notice Orscheln's does have the bowls on Black Friday but for the same price I just paid. I guess after I ended up using all of the 3 I just bought I should try to get a couple more. There are only 3 pens now that hubby will have to break ice in, that will make him happy, at least if all of my bowls are operational.

Yeah I know how you feel sharol, I used to go to big family dinners for Thanksgiving but now we aren't even able to go to Missouri this year due to the weather so it's quiet here today. My son & his fiancee & grandson go to her family's places today.

The review wasn't there when I initially posted, so we will see. Mine will be inside a non-heated coop. I'll let you know if it freezes up. It sounds like s a really good idea, though.

I'm not looking forward to this winter, either. As I have a variety of different pens, and spread apart; I will continue to thaw twice a day, I just pull a garden wagon, loaded with two gallon cat-litter jugs of warm water, to get everything fresh water.

As for Thanksgiving, one of my daughter has taken over doing dinner for the last few years. all my daughters and son were able to all be there, including my ex and her husband. This is as it has been for Thanksgiving and Christmas since my wife hasn't ben able to do it all anymore. But she did do the turkey and dressing. An enjoyable time was had by all, as usual.
