Consolidated Kansas

Dani4hedgies I have 5 lavender orphingtons and 1 hamp. I got them from trish44 and it was definitely worth the drive! I got to see her birds and they are absolutely beautiful!! Obviously very well cared for and the healthiest I have EVER seen!! I wish I could have more than 12 in the city and honestly, after seeing the birds and meeting Trish I won't be going anywhere else ever again!!

I'm so sorry @chicken danz . I know you are so careful with your chickens.

I have a sneezing chick. Would it be allergic to pine shavings? I have pine shavings in my brooder...

But, I took it out of the brooder for a while and it sat with me and is still sneezing a lot. I'm not sure what to do.

@girlsnammo Thanks! I try really hard to keep my birds healthy & spent the extra money to get my NPIP certification as well. Thanks to danz for that last year. Maybe you will find a place in the country soon so you can have more.

danz people can be ridiculous sometimes, we all know you take really good care of your birds, better than most people. That whole thing was stupid & they didn't even have the guts to use their own name. I'm sorry that happened but hopefully it will blow over & the people who know you know better anyway.

Are you feeding medicated feed? Is the bedding dry and are you sure there is no mold? Was it one of the new hatched ones or the older Breda? I sure don't need any more bad press. Sneezing can often be a sign of coccidiosis, allergies or mold. You have had the chicks for 1 week now. Coccidiosis takes 7- 10 days to develop. I would be worried that they were stressed when they were picked up or chilled and they could be starting to get Cocci. I'd recommend 1 tsp of corid in each gallon of water for 5 days to treat them. I doubt they have pine allergies since they were in the pine shavings when you got them. Be sure they are in a clean dry area and treat them. I hope someone else chimes in here as well with suggestions.
Well come to find out the person bad mouthing me was a fake name and had created a fake facebook page so they could spread more crap about me. I swear people have no couth any more. I am just not sure I need all this in my life. I have spent so much money and do my best to hatch the healthiest best quality birds I can. It's a real shame that people don't have the gonads it takes to just contact me and settle it between us if they have a problem. I'm trying to get my archives to load on facebook. I think I may have an idea of who they might be but can't remember their names off hand.

So sorry about your tooth Sharol.
I am really upset this morning. Apparently there was a couple at the Yoder sale yesterday spreading smack about me. It just makes me sick. At least someone told me but didn't know who they were. They were saying I sold them birds that died because they had leg issues. And apparently it was spread all over because I've even had an inquiry about it on one of the facebook pages I had chicks advertised on. Most likely the birds got mereks or had a head injury of some kind. My guess. I have sold thousands of birds without complaint and raised gobs with no problems, other than having some over crowding issues now and then. Anyone who is happy with my birds I would appreciate your comments on these facebook pages to help clear my name. I would never sell sick birds to anyone intentionally. I work very hard to keep them healthy and am very proud of the birds I have.
I feel like crying. Maybe I should just quit Hatching at all.
Those of us who know you know your birds are healthy. I'm sorry someone is so rude as to do something like that rather than saying something directly to you. Cowards.

Danz,
Omg what asshats and cowards definitely I just don't understand people like that. GRRRR I will be happy to post how wonderful your birds are Danz on Fb and whereever else is needed. And will be happy to speak with anyone who has questions cause that's bs and I don't want anyone thinking that's the truth.

So operation coop to sand is complete, my chickens aren't quite sure what to think of it but Im sure they will be doing good in no time.

No I'm feeding them 18% chick feed (Country Lane) from Orschelns. It's actually a Rhode Island Red I got from Orschelns, but now one of the Speckled Sussex's are too. I'll go clean it out right now.

yeah he is a cutie. One of the smallest in the hatch, but he has lots of energy.

These are my 9 week old broody hatched chicks. I just moved them to the big coop, and they are fitting in quite well. They are bigger than their Araucana mother and have been in the yard with all the other chickens for several weeks.

This is the Breda chick.

These two pictures are both fuzzy. The first because it was a long zoom, and the second because I can't figure out how to make my new camera flash when I want it to. GRRRR. I may have to read the manual.

I'm thinking I may have 2 pullets. Anyone else have any idea on it?
I tend to agree with you from what I can see.

Danz,

Wow! I'll bet that was a lot of shoveling. How do you clean it. Just curious.
I have figured out who was spreading the bad stuff about my birds. I have no idea what their names are but they were here last summer or fall. They bought partially grown lavender Orpingtons on the cheap. It was when I was selling out birds so I could have my spinal surgery. They contacted me weeks after getting them and said they were dying. I made suggestions as to what they might try to treat them. I think they were unhappy that I wouldn't refund the money. Who in their mind would after that long?
It makes me sick. I work so hard and spend so much to try to have the best birds I can but some people are just vicious. I want to say try getting money back from a hatchery after several weeks.
From the time I was young I always said that animals were much nicer than people. Which was why I wanted to become a vet more than anything else. I just don't know what to think any more. I love my birds and I love my friends but you never know when you are going to deal with some one like that.

Danz,
Actually it wasn't that much shoving we just had then fill the truck bed which we placed a tarp in. Then we used my garden chart with a tarp in that we filled it about 6 times took the cart into the coop grabbed a corner of the tarp pulled up and the sand poured out. Took about 30 mins total and we just roughly raked/shoved it figuring the chickens will do that for us.
I mixed it was DE and brought a small rake at TS and all you do is just rake it and remove any waste/feather/lumps. I also have a metal extra large litter box poo scooper that I use on the sand under their roost that I will use on it after I have rake all the waste into a pile. That's crazy no hatchery or breeder gives more then a 2-7 day guarantee and money refund never.

I agree, you can't expect anyone to guarantee chicks forever. My feeling is a week & no more is all I'm willing to replace birds, after that there are just too many things that can happen that are out of your control. After they leave I was discussing today how chicks can become so stressed just from being moved that they can become sick. That is why I try to keep my chicks for a few days to make sure they're stable before they leave to go to their new homes. I tell people to give electrolytes in the water if they have to travel far just to give them a boost. I also feel like if someone has a problem they need to discuss it with the person they bought from & not out on a public forum for everyone to see. This incidence just shows you how far people will go to try to hurt someone, people are cruel & unthinking.
