Quote: What a great find. I am still trying to get more straw for the goose pen and other bedding. I still have some left but I use so much during the year. I am hoping to score some big round bales of it. I bought some hay a while back to see if the geese would eat on it but they just lay in it. I guess I need a calf now to eat it!

I think not. Trying to consider what to sell around here so I can make a little more peace with DH.

@chicken danz, it is great that they got there so fast and for the most part well.

I just put my Campine and Breda babies out in the hoop. It is wind sheltered on the upwind side, and the heater in the coop part has it at 80 or so, so they should be fine for the day (in tonight, for sure).
That wind is chilly here this morning. Hope they'll be okay. Is that person I referred planning to take the Breda? If not I might be able to contact someone else for you. She expressed how she really really wanted Breda.

Yeah it is chilly. They have the enclosed coop with a sweeter heater in there to completely escape the wind, and I have shade cloth over the east side of the run part. They were out a couple of hours yesterday afternoon after I got the heater going, so it isn't new to them. They seem to be hanging in the coop and coming out to run around and fly a bit and then go back. Not certain on the buyer, but we are working on a time.

Had a busy afternoon I didn't plan on. I was out feeding and found that some of the younger birds had figured out they could squeeze through the chain link fence. So I got the tools out and was using some of the garden fencing i had taken off the old garden and put it along the bottom of the chain link. I decided if they were wanting out maybe I should give them some more room. So like an idiot i undid and re-positioned panels and added one. Then I thought I have to add more netting for the top anyway so I drug another panel out tehre and put it in too. Then had to redo all the netting and add another piece. But the babies now have a lot more room to run and some green grass. I was going to move a few more juveniles into the pen from the green house but they all wanted to avoid me and my energy was tapped. Maybe in a few days.
Then I decided I needed to get my other wagon put together. Picture directions and parts that didn't line up right!! Took me a lot longer than I planned. Now I'm behind on things i planned to get done today. It's pretty much the way things go.

HEchicken....
PM me if you can i have questions about sheep and acquiring some to help with the grass. We have 10 acres and mowing it all kills mowers quickly and takes away from all the other chores around here.

Lol looks like I will be getting more chicks though I have no idea what kind or how many have a friend who is a special ed teacher and they are getting some fertile eggs from an Olathe breeder to hatch then any chicks that hatch will come live on my chicken farm. Lol yep chicken math is evil!!!

My new buddy mohawk

The photo above and 2 below, her feathers are a very soft feeling. Also being told she's a frizzle?? Anyone want to give input?

This was to be Liza, our sweet Silky bantam...however, she appears to be turning into a he......

I just had a 100% hatch on 47 eggs. I have an insane amount of chicks right now. Lol. I'm not even into hatching the chocolates yet. They start coming in earnest the middle of the month. I'm going to go ahead and blame @chicken danz since I got these orps from you. Lol

I have a hatch due Friday. I hadn't checked the incubator in about a week so last night I thought I'd look in on it and consider turning off the auto turner. I noticed an early pip and by this morning a chick has hatched. These early hatches always throw a bit of a wrench in the works as they need to be moved out sooner and are ready to eat and drink while their hatch-mates are still in their eggs absorbing yoke. Just once I wish I could have a hatch where they all just pop out within hours of one another - on their due date. Sigh. This little chick creates a problem for me as the three-week-old chicks from the last hatch are still living in my brooder. This means I need to get them moved outside full-time. They've been spending their days outside for the last week but I guess tonight they'll have to sleep out there as well.

You are going to have as many as me if you keep up this rate for awhile!!!

Sorry, but no that chick doesn't look like a frizzle to me.

I had another customer cancel their order yesterday due to an accident that put her husband off work. Unfortunately I didn't get a deposit. I still have some freeloading birds out there as well. At least this one was kind enough to let me know.
I might have to cancel some orders if the Breda and the Araucana don't get busy! I know a few of my Breda girls are getting older but there are plenty of young ones as well.
I have some peafowl and some goslings going today. It's going to be a very busy day. I'm only chillin for a little while while I drink some coffee. Gotta sex some goslings in just a bit. Oh what fun.
