Consolidated Kansas

In the reply box you will see a gray square with a mountain and sun click on that and follow the props you are close to me if your duck is a hen I would be happy to have it come live in my flock though it would be the only duck but I have been wanting Runners since I heard about it them. Also Deane Farmstead has runner young ducklings so if its Drake would suggest taking him there he would get spoiled rotten there as well.

I need help pls. I have a five week old Indian runner duck. I got her/him the day she was born. My boyfriend and I have spent everyday with her and given her all of our undivided attention. She is so loving and trusting of me. She thinks I'm her momma. Sadly I am going to have to get rid of her. I would like to find someone who will give her the love and attention I gave her and am unable to now. Can someone please give me advice as to what I should do? The only other thing I know do to is have her put down. Thanks

She does not like to be without me and she has not ever been around any other ducks.

Ducks really like to be in groups, so I'm sure it would adjust to being with other ducks if you found someone that has some already. Ducks don't have a pecking order like chickens so there may be an adjustment period but it will be short. I would put ads up on the FB swaps & Craigslist. I would however ask for a rehoming fee to make sure it goes to a good home rather than being eaten.

I agree with Trish44. Like any flock animal, ducks are social creatures who are really happier being with their own kind.

I woke this morning to three turkeys in the incubator and a bunch more eggs pipped. I need to set up a brooder for them but they're staying in the incubator for quite awhile yet as I'm not going to move them while others are actively hatching.

My Black Spanish turkey went broody in a corner of the coop. On Monday I made her a nice, thick nest of clean shavings and gave her a dozen eggs. It turned out she had laid another egg that day so I let her keep that one as well. I was really tickled yesterday when I went into the coop to collect eggs to see she had been busy. Her nest is now surrounded by a wall of sticks. She worked really hard to haul all that stuff in there and build up her nest. She had to go in and out through the chicken door carrying all that stuff too, and it must have taken numerous trips to get it all in there and a lot of work to get it arranged just right. This turkey hatched two years ago but never went broody last year so this is her first time brooding and I guess she decided if she's going to do it, she's going to do it "right".

I took a day off from cheese-making yesterday but have a batch of camembert going at the moment. It is my first time making a cheese of this type so we'll see how well it works.

Sharol, that's a pretty rooster - I hope you find him a good home. In another lifetime I'd consider raising Breda Fowl but have my hands full right now without adding any new breeds.

Here are the 4 completly hatched chicks and we have 3 MORE finishing up their hatch as we speak. As of last candeling last Thurs night there were 8 chicks so we may have lost one :( but may end up with 7 :) Danz can you let me know what we have already hatched?

Well I think you're all very lucky to have gotten 6 chicks the way the humidity was set most of the incubation period.

Kari I have raised ducks for years. I had a pet house duck at one time who was just like that. When my mother was in the hospital the last days before she passed away I couldn't be home to clean up after and give the duck attention. I put him in a pen with some other young ducks and he joined right in within an hours time and became part of the group. I gave him to a friend who had 8 children thinking he would get lots of attention. But although he remained tame he ended up prefering the ducks. At last message he was the duck boss. He always led the rest of the ducks and made sure they all followed his lead.
I know it seems impossible now but the duck will be really happy acting like a duck.

Dani do they all have feathered feet. Those all look like the blue gold laced brahma chicks from the top. I can't remember what other eggs I gave you other than they were orpington eggs. Maybe that one dark one is a black brahma if I gave you one of their eggs. It would most likely be bigger than the other brahma chicks.
Busy busy day again and I am still trying to catch up.

These are some pics of my incubator hatch:

They are about half English Orpingtons and half Breda Fowl. The Bredas are all BBS (but only the blue and black, not splash this time), the orps are half Jubilee (daddy) and half Jubilee or Lavender or Black or White or Mottle. Hmmm. Interesting babies. A couple of them look like Jubilees, 3 appear to be mottle or splash. I'll bet they will grow up to be REALLY interesting colors. Oh, and one of the chicks is an EE/Breda cross. A couple of foot feathers, but no big nasal bumps. I'm hoping that one is a girl because i can use another blue/green egg layer.

I'm up to 6 broodies. My perennial broody BCM has moved into one of the new nest boxes I just put in the coop. Now both the regulars and 2 of the orps are setting on eggs (I only gave each one 5 eggs -- all orpington so at least they will hatch good layers. In the other coop, my silly little Araucana that raised 2 chicks in February is on more eggs, and the one egg that my barred rock stole turns out to be developing. I really don't need any more chickens of any sort, but just letting them hatch something may reset them to laying again.

Anybody in the market for straight run orpington chicks with interesting color combinations? They are great layers.
