Here is what I am used to seeing! We are "gifted" 6 of these a week from the same 3 girls. Average weight is 4 ounces. It only takes one of these for a great breakfast!

Which breed lays that big of an egg? My two layers give me 1.8 and 2.2 ounce eggs. The X-large eggs at the store are only 2 ounces. I did have some white leghorn pullets that would give me 1 or 2 3.9 ounce double yolkers a week but that slowed down as they got older (and noisier). The noise is why I sold them and went with quieter and friendlier birds.

Congrats on the egg!

Sooo, did anyone else make it down to Shawnee this weekend? It was a great show with birds, breeders and BYCers from all over.

We have two orpingtons and a barred rock that are laying these eggs. What we are trying to figure out is if they lay a normal size egg on the other days that we don't get a huge egg? Or if they just saving it up for twice a week? Also, one of the cuckoo marans can give a good size egg, but she is just winding up molt so we haven't had any recently!

I have some hens that lay eggs so big you cant close the carton. They are 4 years old and pretty streached out. One lays daily one lays soft eggs and one is currently in the hospittle. Black Austrolorps and Cinn Queen/ red sex link. I am thinking I should hatch one of these big eggs next summer and see if we can bring back the Moa!

And Darin it would probaly take at least 4 eggs to make one of the big eggs. But I like the way you dream!

Well her eggs were bigger than a quarter and his were about the size of his nickel. So it may take 5! My leghorns use to give me one of those huge eggs but my largest was 3.9 ounces and it was way to big for the carton.

I wonder if you hatch one of those do you get twins in one egg?

Does Darin have to hatch two eggs to get one chicken?
