So sorry for you loss. I hope you get the dog. Bad dog owners I wish you could find who owns the dog so you can get the money for the lost birds.

Well thats the big fall back. I would go and have a few words with the owner but myself or anyone around us owns a German shepherd and no one has ever seen one in our area. It must havd been a stray that by chance came across my farm. I like dogs dont get me wrong but its a animal and I will treat it as a threat to my live stock and kids.

The only purbreds I have at the moment are bantam Orps, but if you would like, I can send you some eggs. PM if you are interested.

ck_dunham,
Hey, I'm heartsick right along with you. Last year I lost 19 of my 23 4 wk old chicks to a mean neighbor dog. He came into my barn when the door was up and got into my babies and killed to be killing. My husband called the neighbor right after it happened and she walked right over. When she saw what he'd done she asked me what I wanted her to do and I said "I want that dog dead." She had him put down that afternoon. He had been terrorizing my daughter and family and other neighbors and no one ever did anything about it. I'd been waiting for him to come on our property and look at Dave cross-eyed so he could shoot him. You just can't have a dog like that running around, and it doesn't make good neighbors to own one either. I took my granddaughters and bought new baby chicks that same evening and we started over. The girls I nursed back to health are doing great.

My name is Aryk, I'm 30 years old, I live in Topeka, married to my wonderful wife Amber, father of two beautiful children (son Mykel 6 and daughter Mykena 18 months), I am a photographer and full time BFA student at Washburn University... There's a little more on my page, and the pics I took of my chicks earlier are there as well (except the fizzle I purchased tonight, I'll post pics of it soon)!

Yay!!! I love seeing all the Kansas Newbies!! We will be running our very last class at the TSC in Lawrence from 10-11 this Saturday, and the subject is Different Breeds. We'll cover which breeds are appropriate for Meat, Egg, Dual-Purpose, Pet, etc...If you have any questions or just want to come hang out, show up and ask for the chicken class.

Also, if you would like to see a class in the future on a specific topic, ask the staff to leave a note for the manager asking him to arrange it, and we'll do it.
