Consolidated Kansas

Okay, How would you all handle this. The dog sitter that looks after the house next door spoke to me about seeing a German shepherd that fits the details of the dog that killed half my flock. She tells me that she has seen the dog more then once at the farm down the street. If I go to the house and talk to them I have already been told that the people that live they are jerks. So I say hey I want you to pay for my losses and lock that dog up or put it down. Then a week later I find my 2 horses Poisoned. I need to get that dog taken care of but what do I do!!!!

Any thought?

They are home a lot more then I am so they might do just about any thing!

I am SO sorry for your loss. Did your horses make it? Honestly, in a case like yours, you may have to take care of things yourself, very quietly. It's sad they don't care enough about their neighbors or even their own dog to ensure his safety.
Also, you might make a police report, just to get it down on paper, in case anything else should happen in the future. Scary to have neighbors like that!

I would also strongly consider installing a security or game camera near your animals.

I just want to clarify "Nothing has happened to my horses" I just don't want to piss them off to where they DO hurt my horses. I'm trying to be smart about this so its and easy and a done deal.

Yes I have thought about just shooting the dang dog and dropping it in a hole and just not telling any one.

Police said I would have to just sue them and they would have much involvement at all. I did file a report the night we found the birds dead.

I can do that, I happen to work For BUSHNELL and we sell a lot of the game cameras. In the 2 years I've worked there I have never used my 70% off. Now's a good time.

You must make a police report. You must. There must be a record of the events for future events, and this is crucial to creating a timeline regarding anything else you encounter. I hope your horses are okay.

You also have to get game cameras up all over your perimeter anywhere you have buildings, access or livestock. There are affordable models that are very easy to install and operate. You can win this battle much easier if you do these things, because this is a very volatile situation and you must protect yourself by creating a papertrail, timeline and evidence.

Do NOT underestimate these folks and use the resources of the folks we pay to keep the peace, but CYA and get visual evidence at all possible opportunities.

For the dog, you might just trap him if he comes back and take him to the Lawrence Humane Society- it's a no-kill shelter and they'll find him a good home where his owners will try to keep him safe from poor behaviors.

Those folks need to be spanked.

I like this suggestion even better. It's SO not the dog's fault he has crappy, irresponsible owners.

You need to get a couple of extra game cams with that discount and hand them over!! I need a 70% off day.
