Estes has wonderful birds in some of their breeds, as they've bought out some well-recognized flocks in the past...but a little secret: Orscheln's birds are Estes! You can actually just get the stock from a local store if you have one. What are you looking for (I missed that part)?
Edited to add- ducks, right?
Renee, The reason I looked into Estes Hatchery was because someone mentioned they supply Orscheln. First time I've seen one that had a minimum # order. I'm thinking runners, Welsh Halequins, kahki campbells. Glad to know Estes raises quality birds, but unless they're separated and marked I have no clue what I'm looking at. Right now (well yesterday) they have a tank full of the most darling little ducks, some yellow with spots, some light brown, some black. No one there knows what breeds they are or care to be able to enlighten the customers. I'd probably go buy some tomorrow if I knew they were what I wanted. I just don't want to take pot luck.
Gotcha! It's very hard for me to tell ducks apart, too- I wonder if you could call them and ask what they sent to Lawrence so you could narrow it down? I know RevolutionMama has amazing runners, and SparkyCrows has Swedish Blues. Perhaps you could get pics of the ducklings at Feathersite and compare?
