I used wet sponges in my other hatcher. Maybe I should try those instead of these humidity pads.

I am not sure who mentioned watching The Natural History of the Chicken.

OMG! What a waste of time! I really thought it would be a history type program. It is anything but.

I can honestly say that if I had watched this BEFORE I got chickens, I probably would not have gotten them.

No offense to anyone who acts like the people on the show, but they are nutso.

There are these terra cotta pellets that you can get at petco that are like little clay spheres. You can soak them in warm water and they'll release humidity as well as work as a thermal ballast, same as the above suggestions. You might use these if a pot or brick won't work in your space, because they are like marbles. You could also try a terra cotta saucer for under a planter- you could put a small amount of water into it to evaporate from both surfaces. I would drape a paper towel across it, sticking up some, if you still need to increase.

Good call I forgot all about those (more surface area in less space), any place that sells hydroponic equipment (like a greenhouse supply place) should be able to get something like them too (I know they sell this type on eBay)!
