AWESOME! Great job! I enjoyed your narration, too. Watching it go up and down is kind of like watching water heat up to boil,

but, hey, at least it won't drop on a chicken.

I leave my pop up door open day and night. Our schedule is not such that we could get out there and open and close it on a timely basis. I am not worried about predators. Our 3 great pyrenees dogs are on patrol 24/7. I only close the pop up door during bad weather in the winter. It has a "foyer" built on to it so that it doesn't get rain in, so it's only the cold I try to shut out during the winter.

I have a broody that should be hatching any day now, I have her in a top nest box I figure after the chicks hatch I will take them down I have a lower nest box for her and the chicks once they hatch, I am so excited I left the broody in with the flock this time to see how it goes last year I removed the broody and she lost the chick and putting her back with the flock was hard. I would love to have some ducks but DH is still saying no. I want the duck eggs for baking. Maybe next year.

When can you start to hear peeping from the eggs? I hope at least 2 or 3 of the 5 eggs I gave her will hatch She has been such a good broody. I thought I had another one go broody but she got off the nest after 2 days. So just one broody now.

I never shut the doors on my chicken houses. I have separate covered pens attached to each house. I just let the chickens out of the pens in the morning. I have no predator problems. Like you, I have 2 Great Pyrenees that keep everything away. Well actually I have 12. Just had a litter of 10 puppies.
On the other subject. Ducks are wonderful. I actually like them more than the chickens. I got very spoiled to eating duck eggs rather than chicken eggs before I started hatching. I'm looking forward to them again. The ducks are so fun to watch and they are so much more quiet than the chickens. I just got 4 juvenile Mandarins from Kansaskid and am so looking forward to them.

My great pyrenees are worth their weight in gold to me. I couldn't sleep without them. It's hard for me to control myself.... If I could I think I would bring home just about evey dog or puppy I see.

I wouldn't recommend them to anyone who has neighbors closeby that do not tolerate dogs because they bark at night and they roam a fairly large area. If you had to lock them up at night to control them, then what good would they be able to do? Their barking is not an irritating bark like some dogs. When I hear them it is rather comforting because I know the varmint partol is on duty!

Our 3 smell like skunks again this morning.

Both of mine have been scented with skunks before, but after a couple times they learn their lesson and stand back I think. My gal is being very protective of her pups and I haven't gotten any good pictures of the group all together. I'll work on that and post it soon. She keeps sitting between the camera and the pups. They don't look much like pyrenees yet, cause they only have their undercoats, which makes their spots look prominent. I went to Utube and found a video of a champion litter and they look just like them. My girl is 3 years old and this is the first time she's been bred. She did well. I was going to breed her once and then have her spayed, but the dog professionals say it is best to breed them back to back before spaying. So I'm not sure what I will do.
I really don't worry about anything getting my birds. I have a duck hen sitting on eggs far out on the property and even she is safe.

AWWW! I want one!.........but I don't NEED one... three is enough. They are really cute. We have an OLD male, and a 3 year old female. We let them breed one time. She had 5 pups but lost one when she laid on it. We kept one pup, the runt, and the others went to be LGD's. We had mom and pop neutered after that.

You two are making me miss my Great Pyrenees (Huckleberry) now... We lost him in November

KansasBoy - love the silver pencilled rocks! Where did you find them?

The great pyrenees pups are adorable! I love our german sherphed though! He is doing a great job with our flock and helps herd them in for lock up at dusk. He patrols the yard during the day and at night for the varmints that come out!
