I appreciate your concern! Yes, I am concerned too!! LOL!! But I'm thinking my husband will jump in at that point. This is supposed to be my project alone and already, my DH has jumped in to help me set the posts evenly and square. It took a lot longer than I thought. Then when I was ready to mix cement, he re measured everything and had a cow about something and now he wants to reset them- which means we have to unscrew all the screws we put in to keep them in place. Sigh. He might be a bit more involved than he led me to believe. But I'm sure I will get to do the lions share of the work since once we get this part done, I can work during the day while he's at work. He has made trusses before, so I'm counting on him to make my roof look like I'm hoping it will look like. But I figure things may change as we get into it. I'm pretty laid back about that, so thats fine.

I think I've decided to get the 4X4 posts for the run- and I think they have them in 10ft lengths, so if they go in the ground 3 feet, that will give me 7 feet high to walk in. We have dug 3 feet for the posts we set last night. (and now must re-set... and I have no idea why we must reset..??) My DH was mumbling about the plywood sheets and how it won't match up and if we bring the posts in another inch then everything will line up right to lay down the sheets. I had it set so that I wouldn't have to cut my 2X4 wood for the stringers? Or whatever you call the wood you put under the floor for the sheets to lay on top. I forgot the metal brackets they go in, so I'm running to Lowes here in a bit to get those brackets for the 2X4's to lay into. My DH said I should have bought 2X6's for the floor, and he's worried about that. I don't know if I'll go get that instead, or leave it alone. It's not like I'm going to put a hot tub on it.

Here is a picture of the start. The boards screwed in are temporary. They are keeping the posts all level and at the right distance, or whatever. We put it 8X8 so that the 2X4's would slide in perfect between on the inside. Not sure why my DH is wanting to change it now. I thought it was perfect. We used the darned level on all sides of each post and spent a LOT of time doing this. I was ready to just throw in the cement and be done with it. He doesn't want to have a lot of cuts on the plywood sheeting- but who cares?? I'm hoping once he thinks about it today he'll leave it alone and let me finish it. I just stepped outside and took a pic- probably not the best for showing exactly what we did, but it's a good idea of what's there.

If he wants to move the posts, sure, go ahead. Just be thankful for the help. It's a heck of a lot easier to cut a 2x4 than spice in some plywood. (Not sure that is what he means, but just a thought.) I was wondering about those roof angles, too, but if you've got help that will probably work just fine. Hey, you are making progress and that is what counts. Just keep plugging away at it!

If you are planning to be able to walk into the coop, 2x6's would probably be a good idea. If not, 2x4's would be sufficient. 16" on center. If you used 2x6's you could probably get by with 24" on center. What thickness of plywood are you planning to use? Be sure to use at least 1/2 plywood, and I would put something down to "weatherproof" the floor so it doesn't get soaked by poop or whatever, plus make it smooth and easier to clean out. You wouldn't want to let it get warped and have a saggy bottom A saggy bottom is something NONE of us girls want to deal with.

.........speaking of rain, we got 1 1/2" last night, and 2 1/4" the night before.

That's the first measurable rain we've had since I put up my rain gauge early this summer.

Wow - I'm glad for you. We, on the other hand, got zip, nada, nothing!!! Not a single drop. I've heard folks on both the east and west sides of Wichita report seeing rain but it must have been pretty localized because I'm here and at my house we got nothing. Our land didn't get any either so concerns about the hay continue....

I was going to put in 7 2X4's a foot apart? That was my idea... should I switch to the 2X6 instead? Now I'm wondering if they make those brackets for 2X4's? I noticed our deck has the brackets and they are long and made specifically for the 2X6. I wish I had checked out how my deck was made before I bought the 2X4's. Oh great. My first mistake.

7 2x4's a foot apart would be plenty good. Yes, they do make the joist hangars for 2x4's. The joist hangars are nice and better, but personally, I've always just put screws in from the end, except when we were building our deck and we had to hang them from the house. That was 14' 2x12's, 12 feet up in the air. My hubby and I did it, and GEES! That was quite a feat. We used electric poles for the posts. I think we could drive a car up there if there was a road to it!

well, I suppose I can laugh at myself later.. hehe!!

I'll be hunting down a Lowes guy and asking them all my crazy questions. I drop off two of my kids here in a bit at grandma's and just will be down to my youngest. Which means I could take the truck in (single cab- can't fit 3 kids in car seats in it). Sigh. So far, at least it's not too terribly hot right now.

IvyWoods, glad you got rain! Actually, about 1 this morning we got a bit of rain too! It wasn't much, but at least it was something. I hope there is more to come! It didn't look wet this morning when I got up.

wow, girl! That sounds like a seriously heavy duty deck! OKay, maybe I'll stick with my 2X4's if they do have the joist hangars for them, then I can save some time and work with what I bought. I'll have to get screws too- I only got the 3 inch and the 4 inch... that would go all the way through and then some.
