I'm hoping for more nice temps, I'm sure you'll be back at it soon enough. My last two days have been filled with kid events and school meetings and all kinds of stuff. There's no way I could have worked on anything.

Friday night- chillax, put your feet up and watch a movie. My DH got home this evening and I'm planning on exactly that after we put the kids to bed.

BTW- did you get your walls, etc built? Where are you at in your build? You totally need to post pictures, girl!!!!! Like what Renee "said" with her posted picture... ha!

It's raining here finally! Oh bless the rain gods! It could rain solid for a week and we would still be dry. I just hope it last through the night. I'm bring optimistic. I turned on the lamp in the brooder thinking it might actually cool off. I had about a dozen new babies to go in there this evening.
My ducks are in heaven! They love the rain.

OK, I posted a similar question on the emergencies list, but didn't get any useful help. You all know me here, so I'll ask here.

What is the best thing to use on feathers that are being picked (bitten off, not pulled out, I think)?

I have an EE hen who was shaken up by a dog about 6 weeks ago, and the others are removing feathers around her neck where Kaydee grabbed her. She had no real injury at the time, just lost feathers (they were everywhere and she is white, so the yard looked awful), but the area with no feathers is growing larger. There was NEVER any blood or broken skin.

Should I use Blue Kote, Pine tar, or Vicks to deter the ongoing feather picking. (or something else?)

I already boosted the protein to 20% (flock raiser) from 15% (egg maker) and improved their treats by adding protein there, but I don't think that is the problem anyway. The only time they bother her is at bedtime when they are jostling for position on the roost. They are all about a year old.
