That's about my luck with fish. I would love to have tropical fish, but it is a death sentence to them. I'm sure the chicks will be fine. Is "Uncle Milton" going to send you more tadpoles since one was DOA?

yeah, they are going to ship out a new one in late September. No charge. The one that is left and is in the aquarium... I swear, I think it's dead, too. It's not moving at all, not even a twitch, and no belly movement for breathing... tadpoles should still breath, yes?

I imagine I'll be flushing him in the morning and calling them back. Yuck. I think at this rate, it would have been much better to buy tadpoles at the petstore. But you know, grandma bought the darned "Planet Frog" for him. I'm with you Sharol- I kill anything fish, too. I have tried a couple of times to have fish, and it's a bad deal for them.

I don't like killing anything and I know my limits!

That's too bad about the tadpoles. Yep you should just get some somewhere and call it good if they don't do better next time. Did you put some anti-chlorine stuff in the water so it doesn't kill them? This spring you could have gotten tons of them for free. My pond is nearly dry or I would surely have some. I normally have little frogs hopping all over the yard. Not this year though. It's just too dry.
I just sold another $70 in birds to a previous customer. I love it. That is so much nicer than driving and having someone back out on me like yesterday.
This guy knows his birds and is thrilled with the same birds the other guy didn't want. I guess it's all a matter of intelligence.

Sharol- The tricide-neo seems to work, but I would put a cottonball with a hollowed-out middle (like a donut) on her foot to support the weight without hurting her pad, and wrap it loosely in long strips of vet wrap. Put neosporin on the cottonball. Soak daily, rewrap. This should work very quickly, and you wrap it on day 7 and leave it for a week, then rewrap weekly.

sunshinegirl620- I have Silkies, but no one is laying right now- I can sell you some eggs or hatch you some later on when they start up again.

Is back-to-school killing anyone else? Sheesh...run, run, run!!!

Thanks Chooks,

The tricide neo will be in on Thursday or Friday, and My DH picked up Vetericyn at Bluestem. It is a spray, not a soak, but I have to do something for her while I wait for the tn.

Would you try to drain the lesions or soak her feet intact? I'm not sure she will let me wrap her feet (and leave the wrappings) so I'm concerned about opening up the wound.

I would sure be happy to get some of your... probably' hatched' silkies, I don't have an incubator, and my hen hasn't began laying. I've thought it's been too hot, but maybe I don't know what I need to know to get a hen to lay:idunno I purchased these, cause I didn't know about byc!, from CA and OUCH! the shipping and the 6 I received was on the pricey side to say the least! Another lesson learned:)

Thanks for your offer and just keep me posted.
BTW, I'm in the southwest part of KS.

Keep your eyes open and watch Craigslist adds. Lots of people will start trying to sell birds here shortly. They don't want to over winter them so they just get rid of them. Watch for inflated prices. You shouldn't spend over $15 for a nice pullet or young hen. Also watch for people trying to sell old birds. One nice thing about silkies is if you get a few pullets that start laying they will probably go broody and you will have lots. Hot weather slows down laying. My young girls last summer didn't start laying until the weather cooled down, then they went gang busters. Then of course they slow down as winter nears but you can put lights on a timer to keep them laying.

Cut the vet wrap into thin strips, about 1/2 -3/4 inch wide. You would be surprised at how well it stays on. It doesn't take a lot, just be sure that when you wrap it you cover the antibiotic soaked cotton well without creating too much bulk. If you have someone else hold the hen while you wrap her it is really pretty easy. As far as opening it up, I would not do that unless all else fails. Try the non-invasive approach first.
