Consolidated Kansas

None of my Serama hens are more than a year or so. This one was a younger one in fact. The egg wasn't particularly large either. It was just stuck in the vent. Not sure if she had a lubrication problem or not. I took the egg. I plan to try to remove her tissue from it and see if it hatches. You know, one last effort on her part. I hope it hatches. I just don't like loosing any birds. I try so hard to give them the best I can.

Aww, so sorry Danz! Hope it does hatch! This wind today is INSANE! It would be fairly nice out if it weren't for that cold wind blowing. I've been outside cutting away trying to build the doors for the main entrance. I got the mock up of them done, and then put them together with metal frames, fit them into the opening, and they don't really fit as well as I thought. I think they are a tad too large-- too tight. Geez. At least they aren't too small. So back apart they go, but I'm taking a mini break.

Ok so this is how my life goes...... I decided to use the stain/sealer on some of the boxes we made for the Mandarins. I opened the can and saw it needed to be stirred. So I put the paint mixer thing on the drill and just barely pushed the button. That liquidy stain came out of that can like a volcano. Thank God I had plastic on the floor. I had this bright idea I could do that project in the house! I painted 2 nest boxes and one shelter with just the paint that flew out on the plastic.
Now the house smells toxic. I opened the kitchen window cause I was afraid it would explode in here. Plus the stuff is wet and I can't move it out so I can get fresh air in here.
I think I'll do the rest of my staining in the barn! Duh!

Jenny,
Your new coop looks awesome. You really built that in a hurry. It is so cute!!!
Well I did some more work after breathing my toxic fumes in the house. I went out and got the netting hung on the Mandarin pen. I just used tywraps to secure it. So I need to go out when I have more time and put a few washers and screws in the wood to hold it in case the tywraps give out. Then I'll batten down the sides so they don't fly around in the wind as much. My hands are frozen!
Next I have to wire my chicken wire together so there isn't a gap between pieces.
I got my pond filter completed today. I'm waiting for the RTV I put on the gaskets to cure. Then I will put the media in it and be ready to put it into operation.
I still need to put a latch on the door but that is a no brainer. Just those little things that take time. Of course I need to finish and hang the nest boxes but I might do those after the birds are in there. With a little luck I might actually get the birds moved to the aviary in a few days. Yahoo! Then I'm taking pictures of my beautiful ducks.

SeramaLover, very cute chickens! Your seramas are quite gorgeous! What is a top hat? It looks like a gold laced Polish to me??? The frizzle is adorable! Fun! Okay... did you JUST build that coop?! That is crazy!! That went really fast! And it's so stinkin' adorable to boot! You should be proud- that thing is charming!

Does your indoor bird wear a diaper? We have a lady that brings in her rooster at Easter to church, and she puts a cute diaper on him. She brings him around to all the children's classes and talks about rebirth and eggs.. that business. But that was the first time I'd ever seen a chicken wear a diaper.

Danz, OMG- I'm so sorry, but your description of the paint coming out is hilarious!! I mean, what a mess!! But I'm glad you still got to use it. Thank goodness you had put down plastic. I bet your house does smell pretty badly of varnish. Sigh. Oh that sounds like something I would do.

Well, I didnt get any more work done on my coop.

I forgot my ferriar was supposed to come out and he showed up and I had to scramble to get the horses ready for him. Sigh. Ah well. At least they all have pretty hooves again.

chicken danz- Thanks Verna!! me and husband spend about 7 am till 10 at night x2= 2days worth of labor. it still isn't finish yet.. i hate the blasting wind! i know you put alot of work into this project.. YOU CAN DO IT!! WOOT WOOT!! i can't wait to see the hard work you done and the ducks again!..

Hawkeye95- heck yeah.. we were rushing. with the weather being so unpredictable.. we dont know whats the next day would be like.. so we took our chance outside 2 days in a row! me and my husband was drained. on top of that.. we have a 3 year old who constantly asking us if we're finished yet. and she went to be inside a couple of times! so.. its was hard taking breaks in between pulling her out and complete her needs.. and going back on the coop project again. but it was well worth it for my flocks.. we love them dearly.. When my husband came home with 3 diff breeds of chickens i didn't know what it was.. i looked online and i found out the frizzle.. and the light brahma.. but then i couldnt on the last one.. so i google "chickens with feathers on top of its head" and to my surprise it brought up alot of pictures.. i match up to the closes one to the one i got and it said " Top Hat" lol.. so i went ahead and went for it. but really i dont know what breed it is.. hmm..

Hawkeye95- btw.. daipers on chickens? wow!! i would like to see that.. hmm.. but it does sounds like a good idea. If there is a daiper made for chickens.. i would have got it in a heart beat. but then again. i dont mind cleaning my Mini Roc poopoo up here and there .. i wonder what color hes going to be? i can't wait!

Hi! I just wanted to introduce myself. I am Tia from Hiawatha ks. I've pretty much had chickens and other poultry my whole life. Right now now we just have a rooster and two babies
Hatched. We had a bunch of hens but we got a dog that was suppose to guard them but instead killed them all. It was awful. We r now trying to find some fertile eggs for hatching. If anyone half way close to me has some for sale please let me know! I don't care about the breed. We just want them for pets.

We also have 2 turkeys
2 geese and
4 ducks!

Hi! Welcome.
There are a few more up in your area- hopefully they'll pop in and you can make some egg deals! Sorry about the losses- that's just awful.
