Stroods Locker (I think that is the name???) is in Mulvane-- and I believe they do chickens? They do cattle and pigs, I know. They are a family owned business and I hear they are humane with their animals. I was keeping them in mind myself because I was hoping to swing my DH into getting meaties next year. He can only handle so much at a time. LOL! Anyway, check them out, they are right off the square in Mulvane.

Renee-- SO HILARIOUS!! That was the first thing I noticed when I checked in was your photo has fangs and crazy eyes!! LOL!!! I did a double take...thinking whaa??

Okay, so bought everything I need to make a Cookie Tin Heater. Except for the cookie tins!!! Dang! I went to Walmart, Walgreens, Dollar Tree and Dollar General-- no one has the large cookie tins yet! They are all the really small ones. I already looked at a couple of thrift shops last week. Sigh. I guess I need to wait a couple more weeks and hope they have the large tins in. So frustrating! I bought the ceramic light sockets, the screw nipples, etc... and then I bought a couple of $1 6ft extension cords that I am going to cut the ends off and put them onto the light sockets. I'm ready to go.... I may do one last check in my basement storage area, but I'm pretty sure I don't have any large tins down there. I cleaned out our storage area last winter and got rid of nearly everything we were storing. Sigh. NOW being a packrat would come in handy. hehe!

Well I was hoping to get more work done on the coop today, but I ran around so many places I wasted a ton of time. I think I'll wait till DH gets home and have him help me put the last window in. I need to fix the door frame and then they can go in! I'm so close!

Okay- one more question to those of you who raise Polish! I have a divided house in my chicks. They were ALL supposed to be WC BLACK Polish. However... do I have Silver laced polish too??? Or are these white feathers going to come out? Half look like they should (black bodies)... and the other half have a lot of white in them still. I'm posting a pic to show an exmaple of both kinds of chicks I ended up with.... Thoughts on this?? Are they the same or diff?

The top one looks like a mix to me. Not a silver laced and not a White over black either. I'd wait and see if it grew out of it but none of my chicks of either kind have looked like that. Silver laced usually either have dark heads or mixed heads and a lot more white on the body. I've never had a whi over black that had that many white feathers. Is that one of the ones you ordered? If so I would complain. I'm sure you'll still love that chick but you probably can't show it.
Ivywoods just left. Nice to meet you, Susie! She picked her Seramas and we talked a lot. We have so much in common. It is always so great to meet another BYCer. That took 8 more Seramas out of the pen and didn't make much of a dent.
After being in the cool air, my body is sure aching though. I'm just not ready for this weather yet. I may spend a romantic evening with my heat pad!

Fortunately, I'm not wanting to show them.. but that's what I thought- she does not look like anything at all! Even her crest isn't very nice, it's just very sparse and not well filled in like the others. Sigh. I got them for my egg layers and I know they are not as reliable as my rocks and wynadottes- but I don't need a ton of eggs, either. BUT-- even at that, if I order WCB Polish, I want them to at least LOOK like they are supposed to. I thought maybe she could be a laced- but she just looks odd. Unfortunately, there are two more that look just like her. So what the heck could be mixed with her? Would they mix a Laced with a Black??

I only have two that look like they should-- all black bodies. Double Sigh.

Very cool about meeting Ivy! Funny that she didn't make a dent into your Serama project and yet she still took quite a few. I bet she will love them too! They probably look kind of similar to OE right? OH- I was at Atwoods today (yes...again) and they have new bantams in there- more silkies and then they had these teeny TINY little BIRDS- they didn't look like chicks! Made me think they must be OE's or seramas! They were half the size of the other bantams! And they stood upright, they were so dang cute! I left them there, but it was hard. ha!

Did they have any other color of silies besides white? I want another but I don't want white. Just what I need, another chicken. Lol I would take a picture of the different birds and send it to the hatchery they came from and have them verify what they are. Maybe they will correct the problem.

I think I only saw white.. possibly a grey or a black? The grey one was really fluffy, but I couldn't see his toes. They did have feathers on them, but that could still be anything. They have a whole brand new bin of bantams in! So it would be worth a look. I didn't really pay too much attention except to look at those teeny tiny birds in there.

GOOD idea, BTW about sending the pics to the hatchery and asking them what they are! Or at least showing my comparison pics and seeing what they think the mottled birds might end up being. Thanks!

TNTBlake- I sent them an email with attached photos and my question about why they look like they do -- the same two pictures I posted here. I'll be interested to hear what they have to say. I'm guessing nothing will be done... but still, curious about their response.
