Consolidated Kansas

No extra toes- I just went out there to check and there are only 4. I was all excited that maybe they did a switch instead. Looks like I might have gotten mutts instead. Geez. I'm hoping all those white feathers fall out and come in black?? Bwhahahaha!! (good luck, hu?)

I'll teach them to hide whenever anyone comes over. hehe!!

When you pay for a bird you should get that bird. Those chicks look like they are a mixed between silver laced and whi/blk polish. Also not bearded but you usually don't get a guarantee of bearded or not. Obviously they have some mixed breeders in pens. I would be very upset if I paid the kind of money you did for those birds. I've only gotten one bird that wasn't as described and it was a cross. But it came from an individual not a hatchery. Once in a while a blk over white will have a white wing feather or something but that is way too much white not to be cross bred.
I have gotten a couple of solid black chicks from whi/blk bantam polish. Not sure why. And they sell really well because they are beautiful even if they aren't the standard. But it is obvious as soon as they hatch what they are.
I'm really sorry this didn't work out perfectly for you. It won't matter in the end and I'm sure they will be very pretty birds. It's just a disappointment to you now and not what you expected.

EXACTLY!!! I just want what I paid for.

And you'd think they would have separated their breeders better than this? Even if they were only pet quality (which I fully expected-- I didn't really expect much other than for them to be the right color), I still wanted them to LOOK like WCB Polish. I'll update you all on what they write back to me. IF they write back. Oh, I knew they weren't bearded, I didn't order ones with beards. BTW, I've seen those solid black polish! There was one at the Kansas Sate Fair. I'd never seen one like it before, and was curious how it made it to the fair. Did they add a solid black to the standard colors? I thought it was gorgeous, too! It may be a fluke, but it was stunning.

Hawkeye- I don't think there it is a 50/50 cross with anything, I wonder if they had a bunch of hens in the breeder pen that looked pure but carried a gene for lacing. I'm sorry they arn't what you ordered but, maybe they will turn out to be unique and attractive layers, you could be pleasantly surprised! Just say it's a white laced white creasted black polish instead of a white creasted black polish

Danz-I had a great time looking at all of your birds and talking.

We really do have a lot in common! I SO ENJOYED my drive! The trees along the way were gorgeous!

What a relaxing, beautiful drive. My old english trio in the back of the car were sweet talking most of the way home. Who needs a radio?

My sister wouldn't admit for a long time that she had thrown two extra BBred OE pullets in the back for me! That was sure a surprise. She knew I wanted to work with the BBreds and the silver duckwing OE. My hubby thought all of them were beautiful. He WAS surprised, however, when I showed up with 8 seramas!

He thought I was only going to get one pair.

He ought to know me better than that by now! He wasn't upset or anything, just surprised.

I have a LOT of work to do tomorrow, but I hope I have time to get a few pictures posted for everyone. It ain't going to happen tonight, though. Long, but beautiful day.

Who was that from Hiawatha that wanted fertile eggs? I'm too tired to look back through the thread, so PM me or something. I might have a nice variety for you from some pretty nice chickens.

Have a great day, or night, or whatever it is now everyone!

Ivy, that was canchaser that was looking for eggs. Again it was great to meet you. I couldn't drive like that. I get worn out just driving to Burlinton and back.
Well all I looked out this morning to see frost on everything. I guess I'm going to have to start locking my ducks up at night. They keep wandering further and further cause there just isn't anything to eat out here. I sure wish I'd gotten the yard fenced this year like I hoped. No money again! I hate penning them up cause they really like being out and it's a lot less mess to deal with.
I've got to get eggs ready and go to town today. Not looking forward to that. It's been nice not to have to go every other day. My Mom is pretty disappointed cause I haven't been in like I had been. I feel guilty.
I need to reduce some more birds. Since it got cooler the feed consumption has gone up 3-fold.
If it warms up and I get back from town in time I need to get back out and work on the Mandarin pen some more. Maybe I'll get the pond cleaned out and get the filter running with some luck.

Frost on the pumpkin and ice in the waterers! Even the girls were a bit slow in coming out to greet the morning chill! We are on the downhill slide into winter...oh wait, this is Kansas - it will probably be back in the 70s next week!

It's supposed to be nice today and this weekend. It BETTER be-- I'm going to FINISH my coop!

No, seriously, as soon as it's not 32 degrees anymore, I'm going to run right out there and get 'er DONE...

Danz, what are you going to do with your eggs? Do you sell them in town?
