Yes, that site is set up as a learning tool for students. Learning accurate basic information is what accurate advanced learning is built on. When I was learning to hatch eggs, there was no one else I could ask questions of. I did not know about forums then. Now, I know about forums and know there is tons of misinformation being presented as truth on every forum in existence. Good basic information is one of the ways to sort out the right from wrong information. And how to research to find the correct information.

And, even the most wonderful, experienced, willing to help expert is not always available in those critical few minutes or even hours when a decision has to be made that might save a little ones' life. Knowledge is the key, and the best way to learn it is to start at the bottom, basic level and learn it right. If that site is below your level of knowledge, then skip it for the level you are at. I still go through it from time to time and find things I missed. There is always something new to learn.

And yes, discussions are great and help in so many ways to improve that knowledge.

Thanks to everyone that shares their hard earned knowledge so others can have a better experience with raising poultry or other ventures in life.

Very good statement.

Heck, I've hatched quite a few eggs, but I really didn't know some of this basic stuff. Good information to know. Thank you for posting.

Chickies- great site!! I'm a total newbie, and I found it really informative! Thanks!

Okay.... ANYone?? I felt another earthquake a bit ago!! Again!! News said it was a 4.7 I mean, geez... this is crazy! But it didn't rattle the house like the one on Saturday did. THAT one really freaked me out. This one just got my heart racing and startled me.

Yes, they had another earthquake again in Oklahoma, I wish they would stop it! We're thinking of getting earthquake insurance now. There are fault lines in Kansas too ya know.
I probably won't get to stay on the computer long tonight, thunder & lightening here. They've been having tornadoes in Oklahoma today too & we're under a watch.

Chickies-duckies-etc - thanks for the link to that site, that looks like great information, I'll have to look at it more when I get time. I'm going to try my hand at hatching next spring, so I'm sure it will be a valuable resource.

Sorry I thought I replied earlier but I'm having internet issues so I probably lost connection when I posted. You might double check on them interbreeding I've read in several places that you could very well get an occaisional "mule" between them. Also another difference between them is that mandreins will often breed in trios were as woodies will only breed in pairs. I don't mean to act like a know it all just what I've learned about them, reading and asking around.

I hope none of you feel I was bashing that site. I was simply stating that there are a lot of problems that can arise that it doesn't cover, and that others and myself are here as a support group to help each other. Web sites as well as forums can all contain inaccurate information and differences in opinion. Again I think the site contains good information.

Danz-I think everyone is on board with you. I didn't read it as bashing.

Hey, it's a soup day. After I sleep for a while I'm going to make V-V soup. Hubby shot a buck a few days ago. (I never had anything within bow range.

) We had fresh roast venison backstrap and with the leftovers I'm going to make vegetable venison soup with barley. Yum. Oh, and a homemade cherry pie wtih some of the sour pie cherries I got from one of my sisters.

Anybody hungry?

Hey Trish44-I love your new avatar. Your new pup is SO adorable.

A couple nights ago my hubby was out by the barn. I have a few extra roosters that are too stubborn or ignorant to go in some times. Our younger dog, Runt, was laying there, and the roosters were all huddled up against him like they were using him to keep warm.

The older dog, Buddy, was out making his nightly rounds. It works perfectly. Buddy patrols the outer areas and Runt stays in closer to the barns. Gotta love those GP's

We got quite a rain storm last night. We sure could have used that this summer. No earthquakes though. My parents and myself didn't feel anything from either quake but my sister who lives about 7 miles east and 10 miles north did. It's pretty crazy.
Ivy, my GP is in heat again. I am not wanting to breed her again but don't want to pen her for 3 weeks or so either. I am trying to keep track of her cycle but if I slip up I will have early spring puppies. I need her out guarding, not in with babies. She is looking so good these days with her new winter coat coming in and lots of added weight. I kept waiting for the vet to give me a call when he was ready to treat her so I could get her spayed and he never did, so now I'm going through another heat cycle. Ugh!
I moved a bunch of eggs to the hatcher this morning. I've got some duck and some chick eggs (mostly Seramas) pipped. So far one duck has hatched and one Serama. The Seramas are on day 18. You just never know when they will hatch.
