It's actually the only school I remember going to when we lived in Olathe. We soon started moving all over the country after that. By the time I hit highschool, I had moved 15 times! (my dad was military) What kinds of chickens do you have? Or are you hoping to get some?
smile.png

I have 4 hens.
2 RSL, 1 golden comet, and 1 BSL.
But, I also have 11 chicks! My favorite it Ebony. Here she is.

Oh, and you can go to my page it you want to see my hens.

Ebony is adorable! What kind of chicken is she? She looks like she might almost be a cross with a silkie because her nose sort of has that vault to it, but she doesn't have the silkie feathers. Love the little bit of a crest on her head. She's cute! You're really starting up a farm with 11 new chicks!
smile.png
Did you hatch them yourself or buy them?

ETA-- ahh, I just looked at your page and see where you think Ebony is a cochin X silkie mix-- I bet you're right, she has the cheek feathers that fluff out from her face like a cochin.

Your other birds are really pretty! Sounds like you all have been hatching- fun!!

What a day yesterday was. I had so many good intentions and never accomplished anything. Worse than normal even.
I really need to get in gear today and head to Topeka. I have 3 major presents to buy without a clue of what to get.
I spent 3.5 hours on the phone with Dell tech support to find out what I already knew. I bought a new computer but they missed putting in the wireless card. I went through 6 people (Only one spoke English) They told me that all the computers came with the wireless card installed and treated me like I was a total idiot. Finally the last person after hours on the phone had me run some diagnostics on the computer and lo and behold, guess what? There is no wireless card!!!! Since there are no longer things like instruction manuals and you have to get on the internet to do all your start up, guess who is totally unable to use their new computer for anything at all? Now in my already busy week I have to have a technician show up to install the card. Guess what though? This is even more super screwed up. The drivers weren't installed either and the drivers don't come with the card. So I have to download those from the internet and then upload them to the new computer. What would I do if I didn't have internet or another computer to work with.
Let me tell you I was ready to put this thing in the box and ship it right back to them.
Makes me appreciate quiet days talking to my chickens and watching them dig for treasures on the ground.

Thanks!
Yes, we hatched them. Here's my story
This spring my grandma got baby chicks from TSC just for fun. We started out with 10.
We lost 3 to the heat, and then had 7. We had 3 roos and 4 hens.
In september, we had to rehome our roos due to noise complaints.

The lady we gave them to let us have some hatchig eggs! She gave us 12 eggs that we popped into the bator. But we also put in some of our chicken's eggs.
Only 2 of the lady's eggs weren't fertile, and all but one hatched!! From those eggs, we got 2 partridge silkies, Ebony, a Silver duckwig batam, and 5 blue silkies.
Only 2 of our chicken's eggs hatched. One is black and red, and one is yellow and black.

Danz, yeah if I had been in your shoes I would have told them I was sending the computer back & they could send me another one with all the components it's supposed to have along with the drivers. Geez, can't anybody do their job right any more? I hate calling companies too where you can't even understand the tech support people, it's so aggravating, & then they wonder why people get so angry. Duh! DH just told me that a guy he works with had similar problems with Dell & he finally got them to take the computer back & give his money back & then went somewhere locally & bought one. Maybe you should do that since you're going to Topeka anyway. Good luck with the Christmas shopping, maybe you should just get gift cards & let them get what they want. I'm sure they would understand since you just had surgery.

ChickenPeep, it looks like you have some cute chickens, I really like Ebony too she's a cutie for sure.

None of my chickens would sit still long enough for me to dress them up & take photos like that, so I don't think I'll be doing that.

We spent the whole afternoon & evening doing our shopping in Wichita yesterday, exhausting! But at least we got it all done & got the last of the stocking stuffers & more. DH just let me pick out what I wanted in Bath & Body Works for my stocking stuff, so that was nice. He's not that good at picking out things for me, so I either give him a list & he gets it or I end up picking things out for myself. I guess I get what I want that way, but there are few surprises. We had been gone all afternoon & got home about 8:30 last night & when we got here the pups were already in their dog house in the dog run. What good puppies, I'm so proud of them!

Danz, I would have been sooo frustrated! I would have asked them to take it back. I just wouldn't want to mess with that. I bought a Toshiba last year for x-mas. My kids fried my last laptop. I had a USB cable sticking out of my laptop (to hook up my camera to) and they took the other end of it and shoved it into another slot in the comuter-- it didn't fit right, but they got it shoved in so hard that it short circuited it and fried it up. My DH is a software engineer, so he dismantled the thing and rescued my files and the hook ups were burned, so he actually had to hook up wires to it to get the info off. He went McGyver on it! LOL!! He is a computer genius, and thank goodness! The kids then ruined my wireless mouse-- they shoved a stick of cheese into the USB thumb drive that it talked to.
sad.png
Anyway, now I guard my laptop like an eagle! But I say-- call them back and mail it back to them and have them send you a replacement. I'm so sorry about that mess. Even if you don't do that, I sure hope that it works out great in the end.

Trish, we write down our xmas lists, too. It's better than getting a shirt when you REALLY need bath gel or something. My incubator was the most expensive item on my list. I'm actually really surprised that my MIL bought it, too. Most of my list consists of books, giftcards from places I like to shop, a perfume or two, shower gels, a couple tins of Tea, etc..
wink.png
I'm pretty easy.

ChickenPeep, great story! Sorry about the complaints from neighbors that made you rehome your roosters. I'm enjoying the crowing, I think it's wonderful.
smile.png
But not everyone else wants to hear a rooster crowing. Ah well.

Well, I watched the Boeing press conference. Boeing was NOT in attendance. Basically Pompeo, the city commission, our Mayor, SPEEA and IAM were present and all talked and it was a direct conversation TO Boeing. I've never seen anything like it before. Usually these things go like this-- they stand up and say what's happening and what they are doing and their future plans. This was instead-- everyone getting up to the microphone and begging Boeing not to leave Wichita. Apparently, they've all been told that Boeing is indeed shutting down their Wichita site. Which means our direct transfer is to St.Louis. Pompeo said that Boeing has ended all communication with the government and is no longer giving them any hope for the future. They said that Boeing was going to send AirForce One work to Kelly AFB, and the rest will be spilt up between Texas, Washington State, and Oklahoma. Sigh. I sure hope there is time to change their minds! But I'm not holding out hope. My DH has been with them for nearly 15 yrs-- so we don't want to leave the company and risk our future retirement.

Okay, on to lighter topics... we are getting poured on with this rain! If it freezes... we'll be an ice skating rink out here! Yikes!!!!

AW, Hawkeye! It sounds like a move in inevitable. Always remember, when one door closes, another one opens.

Even if you end up leaving Kansas it doesn't mean you need to leave the "Consolidated Kansas" thread!

I, too, enjoy hearing my roosters crow. Last year I had a little bantam rooster that would crow every 20 seconds for hours! I used to sit and listen just trying to figure out how LONG he would go on his crowing marathons. I never quite figured it out.
idunno.gif

Now, I don't hear them crowing quite so much, but I have some guineas, and those guinea hens get up by the house and OH BOY! They raise a racket!
more FOOD! more FOOD! more FOOD!
what's THAT! what's THAT! what's THAT!
who's THERE! who's THERE! who's THERE!

I could use a little less of their chatter.
tongue.png
Yesterday hubby and I were out splitting wood. The guineas were over by the chicken tractor. Their leader, a golden lakenvelder rooster that was left in the brooder with them for a long time, is now the head of a small lakenvelder pullet harem. All the guineas wanted to get in the tractor with Piper. (I call him Piper because he used to lead the guineas around like he was the Pied Piper.)
gig.gif
Even with the noise of the skidsteer running that was powering our log splitter you could hear those noisy things. DH tried to chase them off, and it worked for about 10 seconds.
barnie.gif
They were right back at it. He gave up and went just went back to splitting. Most of the time their chatter doesn't bother me, but sometimes it does get annoying when it goes on and on and on and on.......

I think I will be setting eggs today. I thought I would do it yesterday, but when I checked the incubator it was still about a degree lower than I wanted, and the humidity was higher than I wanted. I think I have it adjusted about right. I'm going to see if I've got any more eggs today and then bring them in and give them a chance to reach room temp for a while before I put them all in. I've got a couple black rosecomb pullet eggs, BCmarans eggs, and black ameraucana eggs right now.

I'm still at home. I've been shopping on line for DH. Got that done and paid to get 2 day shipping so it will be on time.
That leaves me with 2 more people to buy for. I REALLY don't want to get out in this rain. I haven't even gone out and fed and watered the chickens yet. I know I am going to have a bunch of wet feed to deal with.
It seems like I have spent my days on the computer lately.
I got a message from Dell saying the part was shipped and I should receive a call from the repair man. But nothing yet. This isn't a week I can sit at home and wait for the phone.
If this doesn't get resolved very quickly I am calling Dell back and telling them to take the computer back. This is my 4th computer from them and in the past I've been happy. This time .... not so much.

I pasted my nusance wildlife control test this morning and should have my permit starting 1/1/2012. I any of you need varmints taken out I will do it for just gas money. I going to charge everyone else $20+ gas+ a (per animal removed) fee. I'm limited to #1 foot holds until I drum up enough business to buy my cage traps. I will remove furbearers (excluding skunks and beavers), coyotes, packrats, norway rats, pigeons, rabbits and squirrels. I'm going to look into what I need to do to euthanize and/or relocate feral/farm cats that are breeding out of control and/or causing damage. Hope everyone has a merry christmas if I don't talk to you before.

I have four presents coming that I bought online, and I can't even tell that they have been shipped yet! I guess if they are late there isn't a whole lot I can do about it. The gifts are for my boys, and they will be here for a while after Christmas, so it will be okay I guess.

I just had my own little Christmas comedy. If there were 3 of me one could have sworn it was the 3 stooges wrapping Christmas presents. One was a big awkward present to wrap, and I knocked the paper on the floor. The whole roll unrolled as it went across the floor. Then I knocked over a poinsetta. Then I dropped the paper on the floor again and it unrolled again. Then I bumped the little plastic tote with all my "wrapping accessories" with my behind and everything spilled onto the floor. Cleaned that all up. Knocked the scissors on the floor.

Once I finished wrapping that big awkward thing I had my groove on and everything went well. I just needed a break so I came in to dink around on the computer.

Guess I better get back at it!
