Consolidated Kansas

Danz, I'm glad to hear the pups are all doing OK. I hope you can get Marshmallow up & moving around today, I'll bet she is tired after having 10 puppies. Let us know how everything goes with her today.

Hawkeye, it does sound like you've got your eye on OKC, I sure hope they do give your DH a transfer so he doesn't lose all his time with Boeing. Insurance these days is a big factor with jobs too, especially with your health issues. My DH works for GE in the Engine Services Division & the contract that just started this year is the pits on the insurance. We will have a lot of out of pocket expense this year for the first time. About everybody I know is getting hit like that with crappy insurance. They made it so hard & complicated to understand too & it's going to be a real headache to try to figure out what is going on with it all until it gets all sorted out. It seems like that's what they want too, for everybody to be confused about it all. I have specialists I have to see due to my health problems & I'm on quite a few medicines so we had to go with the most expensive of the 3 insurance plans & then you still have a big deductible & co-pays until you reach your max out of pocket, it's a mess.

Chooks, I sure hope you find your birds, that's the pits.

rittert, good luck on getting your pens set up & getting your birds today.

It's warming up here, it's 32 degrees now, supposed to be 45 today, at least that's an improvement over yesterday. The next three days are supposed to be back in the 50s though & then it looks like we have something else coming after that again. I plan to get out tomorrow & get some things done out in the coop & try to get my rabbit cage fixed that I started before the winter blast came in. I need to get one of those cookie tin heaters made this afternoon for my rabbits, their water bottle keeps freezing even in the garage. Wish me luck, I've never done anything like that before, I hope I don't electrocute myself or blow anything up!

I just went out to check a broody hen under the front porch and found yet another frozen puppy. So Marshmallow had at least 11 pups. I almost dread looking further. DH checked out there yesterday when I first discovered the first frozen pup when I was looking for Marshmallow. He must have walked right over it. It was all cleaned up. Man I wish I'd known she would have them early. I could have saved these babies. I keep telling myself it will be easier on her to raise just a few, but I'm still not happy.

this egg is pretty big, but not huge. It's also PINK!!!

OKay-- here is Seymore's first egg! The color is off! :( I'll have to try the shot again in more natural light. It got washed out. Second picture is the comparison of her egg with one of my grocery store jumbo eggs from my fridge.

Thank God they are all doing ok so far. Congrats on Seymore's egg. I've got a few turkey eggs in the bator I got from FL. Many were broken and I only see one that appears to be viable so far. Iplan to get some more later when it warms up. Isn't it exciting! It's still way below freezing here.
I really need to take a nap. I'm not getting anything done.

Hawkeye, congrats on the egg! That's an interesting looking egg too, I like the speckles.

Danz, wow, no wonder Marshmallow is so tired, geez. I know you feel bad about the pups that were lost, but it will be a lot easier for her to raise 7 than it would have to raise 11, imagine how hard that would have been on her to have to feed that many pups. I know sometimes we don't understand why things happen, but there are usually reasons for them. I totally understand your pain though, I would feel the same way, believe me. We have lost baby kittens before & it tears at your heart when you're an animal lover, which I think all of us are on this board.

I finally got a new pic of my pups this morning when I had to get Lily off the old garage roof. The old garage is on the north end of the house & with the house built into the hill the roof level on that part is not that far off the ground, so it's easy for the animals to get up there. I don't mind the cats being up there because I know they know how to get down safely, but having a silly pup on the roof makes me very, very nervous. I called them to get her down & when they came to the back door I snapped their photo before Jasmine realized what I was doing, she doesn't like her picture taken usually. You can kind of see how big they're getting at 3 1/2 months. I hope to get an even better picture on one of the warmer days coming up. I'll try to get one of my Ameraucanas too so you can see them together. Blackie, my rooster is starting to grow back his beard I noticed today, so maybe if these two girls will leave it alone it will grow back in nice & full. The hens he was with before I got him picked it almost off, bad girls.

Well I went out to make sure Lily wasn't on the roof again & caught these two in a great pose, so I changed the avatar again. When I was talking to Candace the other day about the pups I told her that these two dogs couldn't be more different in personality, just opposites. Jasmine tries to correct Lily sometimes, it's funny to watch. A few minutes ago when I was out there I was trying to get Lily to hold still to take a picture & Jasmine, who is the black & white one, put her paw on her back as if to say hold still you silly girl, she knew what I was trying to do. I about cracked up when I went out to scold Lily for getting on the roof. When I called her over to the back door, she knew I was scolding her & she got this goofy grin on her face like the GPs do & gosh how can you be mad at them when they do something like that?
