Chooks, Glad you recieved your package,

might not hurt to put them on some auromycin crumbles

for 3 or 4 days. I know they hudled and where in a box, but heck they might have sit out on a dock somewhere, and as cold as it got sure would hate to see them come down with cold.

Rittert-glad you got some birds.

keep vasiline on the legs, and don't pull off those scales. If they stripped the spurs, I am sure they are pretty sore.

I never do that, just tip them.
Danz, how old is marshmellow? I agree, don't think she needs to have puppies anymore. Still praying for her!!!

I can see where vasiline would have a longer risidual than oil but I'm kind of limited on money for the birds for the next month or 2 so I will probably just use a little veggie oil dip every 2 or 3 days and hope it works. I'm also going to look into some seven dust because I don't know where to buy just a little Ivermectin (I could grab some hartz kitten flea and tick topical if that would work better than seven and be safe?). I'm not going to mess with them to much for the next week because I want them to start laying again after the move. I'm going to go work on patching up the topflight over the yard I've been given to use, in a little bit, and try to let them have some out door time in the next couple days when its warmer. I'm also going to try to snap a couple pics of them while I'm out there and get those up on here tonight.

ETA: Chooks-I'm glad your birds got to you alive and they sound beautiful.
Checoukan- He had the spurs striped before I knew he even had the rooster, I didn't mind to much with the mite problem but I will only tip him as far as keeping him "safe". That under layer is sharper than the original spur anyway, I won't tip him for quite a while though. It dose look painfull and these birds havn't been handled much so I don't want to stress them out.

 

[Ivywoods]

Rittert-I like the Ivomec "Eprinex" eprinomectin pour on for cattle. If you know someone with cattle, maybe you can talk them out of a cc or two in a syringe. It comes in about 250 cc bottles, and you wouldn't need anywhere near that much. It works so well for so many parasites and lasts a long time, but it is expensive so I understand. The seven will work for a lot of things as well. The Harts works to a degree, but I have not used it and I have heard it is not as effective.

I went and got another shot for Marshmallow to give later. She isn't improving yet. I decided I was getting her up come hell or high water so I loaded her puppies in clothes basket and hauled them into the house. Of course she got up to follow them. So now she and the pups are indoors. She still isn't wanting to eat or drink but I'll keep trying. And of course she couldn't wait to lay back down with the puppies. Later on I'll make her follow me back out to the dog house. If hauling her puppies around in a basket is the only way I can get her up I'll do it. She just won't quit feeding and caring for those pups.
I remember the last litter when the drugs finally kicked in it was like a miracle. She started 'smiling" again and acting normal.
She isn't smiling right now no matter what I do. I think she is feeling pretty bad.
Oh drama! She's such a good dog but she is increasing my stress level!
Now I have to go treat my sick chicken and feed the rest.

You are doing the best you can, and if carrying the pups with you as you do your chores, hey nothing wrong with that, may help get those meds moving through her system faster.
Have you offered her any puppy chow or something close. Do you have any eggs you could scrammble for her. B12 I think is what stirs the appetite, I always have "B" vitamins around. Sure do help. Keep us posted.

Ivy- I have use Ivomec for cattle before (at various jobs) but I don't know anyone around here I can get it from. My buddy (that sold them to me) said the rooster is 2 yrs and the hens are about a year old. I'm going to get pics of them up here as soon as I figure out how on the new site here.

OK here there are first pic is my red millie roo, second pic left is my spangled hen and right is my dark millie hen. I was told they should throw millies and spangled chicks! If anyone wants eggs they'll be .25 ea ($1.50 1/2doz) pick up or I can meet at swaps/auctions (when they start to lay).

Seymore sure is pretty! So are your birds, Rittert. I don't understand the people who think chickens and turkeys, etc., are ugly. They're gorgeous!

I have a question that just popped into my head. (I think too much).

If/When i get a hen that goes broody, could i put a couple duck eggs under her and would she hatch a couple ducklings?
