KarenS what a funny story!

TNT I had a visual in my mind of your story and busted out laughing out loud when I read it. Thank you all so much! I needed a good laugh today. Now I can't wipe the smile off my face. It so reminds me of things that my kids did. You just have to love them for making you laugh even years later, and for making life such a circus. When I look back I wonder what harm was a few holes in the walls, a few broken keepsakes and lots of spilled milk (literally).

Oh my gosh all of those stories were hilarious! I just came in soaking wet from being out in the rain taking care of all the birds & animals & read that & I got a good laugh. I had been out there for quite awhile because after taking care of all the animals I went out with a shovel & hoe & tried to dig the little ditch better that drains the water away from the garage. There is quite a stream there today because it's been raining for hours. I still didn't get it dug out as far as I wanted it to go, but it will have to do for now. I was cold & tired, wet & dirty. It's too muddy out there to do a very good job of anything right now. I'll have to work on it more when it's dryer.

My chickens were really mad today, I just left them in the coop & run. I don't think they needed to come out in the rain anyway, but they were griping at me. The dog run has been giving me problems with the tarp on top also & I was out there trying to empty out the tarp & put some more support under it. It's a lot better than it was, but still not great.

Well my DH told me finally that he may help me some with materials for the breeder coop, so that was better than what he said the other time. I tell him every time I get an email or PM from someone wanting Ameraucana chicks so he knows there is a reason to build it. He has to have rationale for things, you know one of those engineer type of guys that have to have things all in black & white & fit in the boxes & all. That's how I usually have to convince him of things is to give him good rationale for it. He has to chew on things awhile usually before he decides on something. You can't rush him or he just gets mad & It has to be his way. He is so frustrating to deal with at times, it drives me crazy. I just want to do things & get them done & he wants to plan it all out & have it perfect before he even starts.

Well, I am very happy today. I sold... well, gave away, my first "therapy chicken."

Here's the story:

Many of you know the story of my daughter who died from cancer at the age of 17. She was 7 when first diagnosed. One of the things she loved most in life was her chickens. Showing her chickens was a highlight of her year, and when her houdan hen won "champion large fowl" at the fair it was perhaps the happiest day of her life.

Recently a lady called me wanting to look at some of my bantams. She was wanting to get a "lap chicken" for her daughter. As it turned out she had a little girl she had adopted at birth. The baby was born to a mom who was on meth and the baby had a stroke before it was born. She was completely paralyzed. This lady was the baby's nurse in intensive care and adopted her.

When she told me about this I couldn't help but think about my own daughter and how much she loved her chickens. She thought maybe a serama would work for the little girl because the daughter, although paralyzed just lights up when she sees the chickens. I told her I thought I had a better option. I had a little ginger red old engish pullet, a tiny little thing, that I got from my sister, Checoukan, last year. I did not have a ginger red rooster, so I had no mate for this pullet. She was the sweetest little hen; such a sweet talker and always coming up to the front of the cage for attention.

When the lady came over today she wanted some chicks, so I traded her some chicks in exchange for a pair of adult royal palm turkeys, and then I gave her the little ginger red pullet. She sent me pictures already of the hen, now named Pippin. She is already the pet of the family including two grandsons. Pippin seems to be really enjoying being a "house chicken."

I couldn't be happier.

Aw! That is really awesome. Doesn't it make you happy to do that sort of thing for people. I think that is one of the main reasons I love my birds!

Ivy, there are angels in this world and that woman sounds like one of them. I'm so glad you were able to help her make her daughter happy and glad Pippin has a great home.

everyone--all the stories of your kids getting caught by the undies, so far, that's never happened to me. Funny to hear YOUR stories, though. I think it would be pretty hilarious to see it.

no idea on what kind of ducks they are in the tub-- but they are CUTE!

Trish, I didn't spend much time outside, but I did climb into the coop today to check the girls out. No more eggs. I kind of sifted thru some raised spots and looked really well. I wasn't sure what to expect now! Don't know if I'll see another egg soon or not. Didn't want any to get broken and start egg eating, though. I walked thru a river of water out there. Fun, fun. I can only imagine what your place is like if you got all the rain we did. We need the rain! But I kind of wish it would be more spread out so it can have a chance to soak in better.

Ivy, that is an amazing story!! What you did for her was so incredibly sweet. Okay... so now you have royal palms???????? hehe!! OKay, NO! I can't have any right now. But, that will be in the back of my mind. hehe! I hope they are as sweet and good natured as Seymore is. If she is typical of the breed, you are going to LOVE those birds!

They are great!! I would not have the training cages and breeder coops any other way. No mess, No fuss, just good clean water for the birds!!!

Well, not that I'm not going to love him/her any less, but I just found out that Goose isn't a Rouen Duck, but instead a Mallard. That means s/he is going to fly. Wasn't prepared for that! LOL
