We have a momma cat having kittens today & my pups are extremely interested in that. They're still too much puppies though, so they were wanting to play with the babies & I had to chase them off from her. The silly cat is having them right in the middle of my flowerbed by the front porch & out in the sun. I would love to move her under one of my bushes, but she is still having them, so I can't right now. It seems like she started having them where she lay & then just has stayed there.

I went out to check on my little momma rabbit to be this morning & I thought I would give her something to do since she is so nervous. I took a bundle of hay & put it in her cage & she immediately started gathering it all up in her mouth, it was so funny, if you could have seen this tiny little rabbit trying to get all of that hay in her mouth. Then she took it all & jumped into her nesting box & started arranging it in there. I sure hope she gets the idea & has the babies in there where she's supposed to instead of on the wire. Sometimes the new mommas will have them on the wire & they die before anyone finds them, it happens a lot. I would hate that to go out & find dead babies.

Awww!! I love springtime with babies!! You'll have to post pics of both the kittens and the bunnies! I've experienced birth of both of them and they are amazing! I had a rabbit that used to have her bunnies and take them over to the feed dish as soon as they were born. We never understood why she did that until we took her to the vet and they determined that she didn't have nipples! She was taking them to the feed to try to feed them. It was so sweet and so sad at the same time. Needless to say, we didn't breed her anymore. She was such a sweet rabbit that I was sad that I couldn't pass on her traits.

Got another busy day planned. I need to build build build. But also need to go to town to see my Mom. I didn't go yesterday and tried to care for things around here some. The day went fast and I didn't accomplish much though.
I do wish my Mom could talk on the phone. It would be so much easier than driving all the time. Not that she would be truthful about how lousy she feels. She just doesn't complain.
I loaded a ton more eggs in the bators yesterday. I have the hatcher pretty darned full right now. Most of those eggs were duck and bantam polish eggs.
I skipped church this morning and really should have gone. It jsut felt really good to sleep in for a while.

I probably would have recognized him with his hair to his ankles-- his face seems very familiar to me anyway-- I can't quite place who I think he looks like. It's too bad your mom isn't able to use the telephone, that would help a lot. Good luck with your next hatch! If I had tons of room, I'd try to get ahold of a couple of really nice LF WCB polish-- or silver laced to breed/show. But I'm out of room for now and I don't want to press my luck with my DH! LOL We skipped church, too. I was getting a sore throat last night and didn't feel well. I think it was the lack of sleep from the night before and ALL the driving.... ugh. I really don't want to have to drive that far again for a show. UNLESS... there was one down near Rosie! ha!

I am so glad you made the flash cards!! Makes a big difference. On the next show, you need to remove the food and water until the judging is done. THEN, put your feed and water in. Makes the birds really come up to the front of the pen. I don't think yours have a lot of problem with that, but in other breeds it can be a problem. Also, work with them on setting up by them selves. Tap the cage, and if they perk up and show themselves, then give them a treat. Fruit, or a small piece of gainsburger for dogs.
I have started using some products that I found at TSC. One is poultry conditioner, and the other is called Flock Fuel. I am using both in my feed mix I make for my show birds. And, I am also mixing some aureomycin crumbles in the mix I make. Just, well because, and I like the better feed conversion with the mix. The conditioner is a small pellet, and fuel is liquid, and crumbles. I mix all of that together in a ice cream bucket, along with either some egg crumbles, or chick starter, and I have my feed mix.
When are you going to be in this area?

My husband shot a coyote yesterday morning, at 200+ yards. He used a 22 Mag. Nice gun, and not all that expensive.

Is that something I can find at Walmart? Never heard of it before now. The flash cards really paid off! I'll be adding to them. I got the list of showmanship questions off the net-- look slike about 66 questions that are standard. I'm going to find a stuffed chicken for him to practice with. OH! And I just ordered him a new white lab coat with his name/club embroidered on the front above the pocket. A couple people said they sewed theirs and I'm really good at sewing, BUT... I have less and less time lately. This coat came with embroidery-- so easy to just order and have it here and not worry about it. I hope it gets here before his next show!

Tweety, when the ducks run outside they take the sharp edge off of those claws. Believe me I just told DH yesterday I am clipping Choppers toenails.
I had to take a couple guineas and bath them. They were so covered in mud they couldn't get out of it. Poor things. One of them who was totally exhausted from trying to get out of the mud hole is doing great. The other one is not doing well at all. I think she might have gotten chilled. I put her in the sun in hopes she would warm back up.

cherwill, even if you order from a hatchery they don't guarantee 100% that you won't get a roo by accident.

tweety, that EPDM rubber liner is really, really tough. I have had rocks fall into the bottom & now have dogs swimming in my pond & walking around on it. I really don't think if you got the heavy duty one that the ducks could hurt it. I will tell you from experience with the kiddie pools though, it will crack & break in the winter. I had about 3 pools one year that I had to use temporarily for fish & plants while I was reworking my pond & I left them sitting outside that winter when I was done with them & they as much as disintegrated.

rvroman, I have someone that will trade you a hen for a rooster if she ends up with all hens & you get a rooster, so that would solve that problem. She actually wants a rooster. That would be funny if that actually happened.

Danz, I hope your guineas recover OK, yeah they probably got too cold. I know that they seem like pretty hardy birds, but the ones I had seemed kind of fragile in a lot of ways, especially when they were young. I lost a bunch when I got some from a hatchery, then I got some older ones & they did great, that is until the oppossum at half of them.

Well we worked on my rabbit hutch today & just got it finally done about dark & moved 3 rabbits outside. They seem very happy out there, it's way cooler too. Now I have to get to work on the other one. Each one is a 3 hole hutch. The other one needs the most work of the two, so it will probably take me awhile. It was way more work than I anticipated when I bought them, but I think it will work out OK in the end. DH just has no patience & it's really hard to work with someone like that who is always getting mad & today I told him it was just so tiring to have to have him acting like a child all the time. It really is like having another kid around, geez.

I know, but I think we're way above the 10% they claim is likely! From the looks of him, he's going to be very pretty, so I guess there's that.

It finally dried up enough for us to mow, so we spent a couple of days catching up on our lawns. After all that rain, most of them were quite long. We just got a new job yesterday and he also wanted yard cleanup done. I spent a couple of hours scooting around on a brick patio picking weeds. My back was killing me, and it still hurts, but I think it won't set me back as much as it would have a year ago. I'm still happy with the new treatment I found. The chickens liked it -- a giant bucketful of tasty weeds. Yum!
