Ok, here is the scoop on Ivy.

My DBIL, sent me a text, and then tried to call. I was driving my pre-school route so I could not answer. Any way, Ivy is out of surgery, and the surgeon said every thing went fine, and she was doing well.

Mike, said as soon as she got out of recovery, he would let me know. That was about 11:15 or so. I have not heard anything from him since, tried to call, but figure he has his phone off.

Anyway, as soon as I find more out, I will let everyone know. I will pm to anyone that wants her room number if they want to send a card.

Been busy with 4H stuff. Trying to get all the numbers figured out for the broiler project. Need more so the chicks get a lot cheeper than they are right now, anybody want to order some. They will be ready to got to freezer camp in about 9 weeks, depending on how big you like your drumsticks

!

Now, if I could just figure out why my computer has decided that everything has to be enlarged 100 time bigger than normal I would be quite happy!!

Long busy day today. DH actually got several holes drilled. Now if we had the posts and the concrete we could be setting the basis for the building and the pens. It was a beautiful day and perfect weather for me.
Trish and her husband came by and took the tour. Things are such a mess here but it was nice to meet him and of course see the new car. Trish has the cutest little dogs. I normally am not a little dog person, but one of her dogs in particular is the sweetest little thing!
The day went way too fast but I am exhausted.
Yay Danz!! Getting the holes drilled is a BIG deal! I need to get that done, too so I can get started on my "real" chicken run. Now see if you can get your DH to rope in a few friends and see how much they can get knocked out in a day and offer them a BBQ of something? I love having weenie roasts-- it's cheap and easy and I'll buy brauts for the men and hotdogs for the kids. I flat out love grilling-- chicken is my favorite to grill. If we stay here, I'd sure love to see if I could convince my DH into getting broilers and freezing them away for the rest of the year.

Sounds like everyone was busy yesterday! Hubby and I spent all afternoon outside, working on getting the new coop built. We got the chickens shooed into the big pen through the other door in the coop. Sarge was THRILLED to have new 'playmates', lol. He keeps herding them all together, he doesn't like it when they spread out. He is taking his job very seriously, too. Whenever the wind would blow the brush to the NW of the pen he would start barking, round up the birds in the opposite corner of the pen, and go back to sit and
Anyway...good morning all! Hope you have a great day!

OH! And Danz- here are some new pics of Sarge for you

Why are my kids INSIDE?!

awww, Sarge is beautiful and I'm glad he's working out so great for you! Sounds like you have a lot of progress on your coop, that's wonderful!

I got the ground completely cleared of all the mulch and brush and everything, now the ground it ready to build the pen. My back is hurting. I swear the previous owners put down a ton of mulch, literally a ton. I hauled about 50 wheelbarrows full of it outta that corner, and that corner is only 20x20. I'm so glad that's done. My back couldn't take anymore of it. Sounds like it's going to be a beautiful second half of the week. Yayyyy!! Enjoy your Monday, all!

Yikes! That is a lot of mulch! What are you doing with it all?

I got DH to move the cage that goes in the back of the pickup yesterday and I'm going to put my young turkeys into it. They are old enough they should be ok outdoors. I have to hammer an ugly old dog house that was here when I bought the place back together and that will serve as a temporary shelter for them. Okay, so that's the plan as long as nothing else goes wrong.
Sorry you aren't feeling well Hawkeye. Maybe there are some particular pollens out this time of year that you are allergic to. Or maybe you've just been working too hard lately. Please get to feeling better.
Checoukan, if you are on here please keep us updated on Ivy today.
I'm feeling better, I don't know what I got hit with, but all day yesterday I was fighting sleep and I slept like the dead last night. I am still feeling my sunburn today. :( Just as well, since I have piano and 4-H meeting tonight-- so I didn't have any time to work outside. We ran errands all day-- my middle saw the eye Dr and now his eyes are doing better! YAY! He doesn't have to see the eye Dr for a whole YEAR! Nice change from every 3 months and changing out his lenses each time. That was getting expensive. No more lazy eyes, either!! So anyway, I bit the bullet and bought him sunglasses too since it will be a whole year. Hopefully we'll get it all in next week. What kind of turkeys are you putting in the pens? Are you still waiting on your midgets?

Hawkeye, hopefully it's just a case of hayfever and you'll be over it quickly. Some days I be out doing stuff and it doesn't bother me at all, and other days I think I'm dying. Your brother's coop is looking good, and your garden as well. Did your rosemary come back from last year? Mine never does. The only things that come back every year are the sage, oregano, thyme and chives.

We picked up a last minute one-time job Saturday, so it was seven yards we mowed. Yesterday we planted carrots, radishes, rutabagas, turnips and radicchio at the community garden, and all the greens (lettuce mix, kale, chard, spinach, arugula, mache, sorrel and cress) and asparagus at home. All stuff that can be planted in early spring or as soon as the ground can be worked, so I think most will be OK even if there's a freak late frost. We also picked up some shallots that were marked way down, so I planted those this morning at the community garden. We didn't get around to making the pallet planter for strawberries yet because DH wanted to work on getting his motorcycle put back together. I'm headed over to Mom's now to watch a couple of things she has taped and I'm not sure I'll do much of anything else today; I feel lazy and like I want to let my back rest a bit after the weekend. Have a great day everyone!
Yeah, my Rosemary, Lavender, and mint all came back from last year. They stayed green all winter long-- well, except for the mint. It died back and then came back full force this Spring. I planted strawberries for the first time this year, so I hope they will come back next year. They are supposed to be "Everbearing" so hopefully they will produce all summer long! That would be nice! Your garden sounds fantastic!! I need another garden! I just have the ONE 8X8 rail road tie garden. I'd like to have one more and I think that's about all I can manage. But I'd like to get more veggies in there. Would love to get asparagus and lots of greens in it.

***Checoukan, thank you for the update! I'm glad Ivy did well! Hopefully her recovery goes quickly! It doesn't sound fun, though.

Yikes! That is a lot of mulch! What are you doing with it all?

Well, about 20 wheelbarrows full went to top off all the other areas of mulched flower beds. So much that they are now almost overflowing. The rest of it went into a big ol'e pile in the other back corner. LOL. I figured I'd just add bit here and there to the compost pile and try to use it up that way.

Glad to hear that you are feeling better. My DH's allergies are kicking his butt. Gets this way every time this year. Too much budding going on for him. LOL

Checoukan, Thanks for the update on IVY! I'm glad that she's in recovery. That must mean that things went well!

Can you guys believe these temperatures??? Our car read 90 degrees on the way home from work. That's insane for this early in the year. I'm so hoping that it's not an indication of this summer! We came up with a better idea on keeping the greenhouse cooler for the chickens during the summer. I bought these tarps that are reflective on one side. I'm thinking that I might use those covering the inside walls instead of just replacing the plexiglass with wood. That will reflect out the heat on their half quite well. I can turn it around for the winter and do the same thing, only in reverse. We'll see how it goes. Started adding up the costs to our project - and whoops. It's gonna be kinda expensive. LOL. DH is the one that keeps wanting to add stuff, so at least he's not the one complaining about it :) At least I can use the excuse that we've put this much money into it, I'll have to get more chickens next spring. hehe

Checoukan, I'm glad to hear IVY's surgery went well.

David, What a cute grandson you have, congrats!

Hawkeye, I hope you're feeling better.

Danz, thanks for the tour, you sure have a lot of birds! Maybe now my DH won't complain about mine so much after seeing how many you have. He really liked those Polish. Pretty much nothing has worked out for this trip as planned, so he has been aggravated. Oh well.

Well guess who called me!!!!! MY dear Ivy. Anyway, she still was under the medicine from her block, and she had a IV pump for meds. She already said she was doing better than the first knee replacement. Looks like she may go home Thursday, but, you know that could change.
Ivy sound really good, and was getting tired when we ended the conversation. I may call her later this evening, and see what she is up too!! Course, you know us sisters, if we get together the world better set up and take notice, and if it doesn't, well look out we will make sure it does!! hee hee!! Oh my you guys just don't know what kind of stories we can come up with.

Anyway, all looks good at this time. Now, if my other DBIL makes it thru his surgery ok in the air cap on wednesday, we will all be back on our feet. Still freaks me out thinking about knee repacement. I have seen those on TV. I think I will a take real good care of mine!! Course, I am already walking around with a cadaver heart valve, what am I talking about.

getting every one ready to bed-- but wanted to see if there was any news on IVY!! YAY! Glad she's doing well!! Hope your BIL's goes just as well as hers did! :) I can't imagine having a knee replacement-- as you said, I've also seen it on tv--- and No way Jose! LOL!! I'll try to be careful too!

Oh, KU is going to kill me dead with the suspense, so I guess I'll just nap until it's over.

Glad to hear Susie is doing well.

My dreams of a greenhouse coop are crashing around me. We unboxed it tonight and OMG! the "polycarb panels" are nothing but the stupid plastic that is evil and surrounds things you buy at the store that you have to use scissors to get open.
somad.gif
I'm so upset. We really should have opened the **** box before we started planning, but I would have thought it would have been at least as tough as the clear ridged roof panels. It's so thin that it will never keep anything out. I guess we are going to have to revise our plans and buy a couple coops, modify them, and buy a dog house for the ducks. I'm going to cry.

And this KU game is pissing me off too.
