CONGRATULATIONS IVY!!! You must be so proud and congrats to your son for his hard work!!!! He must be one brilliant kid!!!

Roman/Hawkeye- NO WAY!! I can't believe that!!!! I had a silkie hen that did a loud "call" that sounded kinda rooish but not a real crow! Well darn....what is the world coming to, crowing hens. Roman I think it still is a problem if you have neighbors that will report you because it doesn't matter if its a hen or a roo, if its making noise it will bother people and they will complain. I assume that is why roos are banned in most cities anyway, just because of their racket. I know several folks in Wichita that have roos and nobody complains. In fact I sold a buff brahma roo to a mail man that lives in the city and he said his elderly neighbors were so sad when his roo died of old age that he told them he would get another. They missed his morning greeting to the world!!!
shocking! LOL That is a cute story about the neighbors who like the rooster. My neighbors tell me all the time they can hear my roosters crow.... ALL the time! hehe I'm glad there is no ordinance or anything against them here. My 3 little roos are very vocal and they like to crow all day long.

Does anyone in the area sell guinea hatching eggs? A friend of mine may be interested later this month, and I just thought I'd ask. She's near Louisburg, Ks (lives in Cleveland, Mo).
Thanks!

I'm trying to make a huge batch of deviled eggs for a church dinner tomorrow I cooked a bunch then wasn't sure if that would be enough so I'm boiling another dozen or so. I don't want to take these things back home either. I just have no idea how many people will be eating and how many will eat deviled eggs!
It was another busy day. I mowed the lawn which was really in desperate need. Took me several hours. I finally broke both lawn mowers I was using. The idiots that used to live here fed cattle hay around the back part of the yard and just left the string laying. It's always getting unearthed even though I've constantly picked up all I could find for years now. But in the deep grass I couldn't see it so I managed to get it tangled in my dixon before I was all done. I was mowing around the back part where the queen anne's lace has gotten 3 feet or taller and must have hit something with the Swisher mower I was pulling. Stopped it dead cold and it wouldn't start again. It has to be jacked up to check it and I was beat so I just parked it.
I swear I'm trying to kill myself this week. I have worked so hard that my back, knees, and arms are throbbing non -stop. Then I can't sleep at night. I think I am running on nervous energy. I'm afraid I'll become a witch on wheels if I don't get some rest soon.
Ivy that is awesome. Congratulations on your son. My daughter in law is in pre-med at K-state as well. She plans to become a pediatrician. She is still working as a career counselor for the army as well as going to school. Maybe they'll end up having some classes together.
I will have some guinea hatching eggs later. Right now I am trying to fill orders for chicks and eggs that people are on a list for.

I've worked myself into a stupor today so just checking in to say I'll try to catch up with ya'll tomorrow. Danz, you and I must both be on a roll. I hurt from my head to my toes from all the garden work, putting dog houses together for the breeder pens (DH conceded), painting the runs, mowing, etc., etc... I'm beat!!! Hope everyone gets a good night's rest. Catch you tomorrow.

Congrats IVY!!!

You ladies...when will you learn to quit over doing it? <<<<Guilty as sin myself>>>>

That hen crowing was definitely interesting. Not quite as rooster-ish, but pretty darn close. Love the neck fluffing out when she does it.

Not a lot to report today...got pieces for 4 carriers cut yesterday, now I just need to get them put together. Hopefully I can get a few more done before the McPherson swap next weekend.

Have a great night everyone, get some rest!!!

Pikeman, great pictures and I really like the spice names. When we got our dog Tai, she was actually a present for my niece from her grandfather but she couldn't have a dog at home. DH wanted to name her Paprika because of her color. My niece was horrified .... PECKERIKA? WHAT KIND OF NAME IS THAT? So we somehow ended up with Tai.

Danz, I'm sorry about your dropped egg, and of course it would have to be one with a chick.

Ivy, that's great news about your son. Congratulations.

That hen crowing is hilarious. For two years I've heard about such things but didn't believe it because no one I'd ever talked to had ever experienced it or even heard of it.

Sick people, get better! Danz, I hope you get some sleep. I know how miserable that can be. I can go along OK for a while, getting too little sleep night after night, and then BAM, I can't function halfway normally and I'm just a mess. Then I lose about a day sleeping off and on.

I got nothing done today. We went to Lehigh to tow my nephew's car into town and work on it. We left at 10 this morning. Got it towed in and the guys spent all day ruling out the easy and cheap fixes. We even had a friend who's a mechanic stop by and offer some suggestions. By 10 tonight, they came to the conclusion that it is the water pump. My nephew works the next 7 days but can work on it in the evenings. It will probably take at least 2 evenings once they get the pump. We did all this at my in-laws' so I spent most of the day visiting with my MIL. It was pleasant, but I feel worthless! Tomorrow I plan to get out to our gardens and do some weeding. The community garden plots can get out of hand very quickly. My aunt brought me about 2/3 of a grocery bag full of radishes (the volume does include the tops, which I like roasted). That was half of what she pulled yesterday. Our first harvest this season!

Well, I've had my excitement for the day. I was just waking up and I heard the guineas start to make a racket. That's not unusual. Then I heard a bunch of the chickens join in, which made me wonder. I looked out the bedroom window and couldn't see anything. The turkeys, guineas and chickens were ALL putting up a heck of a racket. I went to the bathroom window and I could see all of my DH's goats in a huddle with the babies in the middle...... and there in the pen with them, not 30 feet from them was a HUGE coyote trying to decide which one to take.

I hollered at Mike and ran and grabbed the .223 When I got to the patio door with the gun I couldn't see the coyote. I stepped out on the deck and I could just barely see his head peeking around a ledge. As soon as I saw him, he saw me, and started to run, but I managed to nail him.

Now the question is how the heck did he get in there? Well, Brittany, the GP pup was locked in the barn. She's still too young to be out with the number of predators we have, and Buddy and Runt cannot get into the pen due to the electric fence. They generally patrol the border of the fence. Buddy is gunshy, (I think someone shot at him before he became our dog) so he took off as soon as I shot, and Runt probably with him.

That coyote must have found a way intot he pen from the bottom.

I hate coyotes. Savage .223 with an accutrigger=sweet revenge.

Wow, you were really busy!! I am such a slacker lately. I've done nothing for 3 days but lay on my sofa. I can't seem to get up, I feel so sick. I've eaten next to nothing. I got on the scale this morning and I've lost 3 lbs! But it's no wonder, my stomach has been too upset to be able to eat more than a few bites at a time. Ah well, I feel MUCH better today!!!! whew!

IVY--- YAY!! What an amazing shot you are to have gotten him from that distance!! I need more target practice time. My mom just got a new gun and we're going to start using our Tuesdays (without kids) to practice with it at the local range. I still have not even attempted to hunt our coyotes, but I want to get on it. I just don't feel confident about my ability. My DH and I used to go to the range when we were first married for fun, and he's seen me shoot-- when I keep up with it, I'm not too bad. But I'm not the greatest either! LOL He's probably right, I'd probably just blow holes in the ground. I'm eager to hear how that coyote got in the goat pen!! Are you going to go out there and search for the hole? He must have gotten in and out pretty easily if he took off at a run when he saw you! Congrats on getting him! I want one too!!!!

I told my DH I guess we are going to have to keep some of those noisy darn guineas around. They are what initially sounded the alarm. I don't mind all of their racket, but they get in the barn and they all start going off when I'm in there and it's so noisy you can hardly hear yourself think. Even just two of the darn things can make one heck of a lot of noise.

What kind of gun did your mom get? Rifle? I used my Savage .223 this morning. I actually like my 22-250 better for coyotes, but the .223 was quicker to grab and go this morning and the accutrigger is sweet.

Anything under 100 yards is a "chip shot" with a high power rifle. I've hunted deer out to just over 300 yards. I'd love to learn to do some longer range hunting, but at my age (arthritis and eyesight changes) it probably isn't going to happen. I am pretty confident and competent with my rifles out to 300 yards. I love to shoot and wish I had opportunities to do more of it..... just not at coyotes waiting to choose which cute little baby goat it would like to have for its chevon breakfast!

Hawkeye-if you want, PM me. I can give quite a bit of advice on guns and rifles, etc. I've been an instructor for years.
