Consolidated Kansas

OK, I'm going to bore you all with a bunch of pics, but I just promised HeChicken I would post some.

The sexlink chicks: Hen?

Roo?

Here are my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana chicks. I have two each colored like this, what do you think IVY, do I have two pair? One of each is lighter than the other & there are two bigger & darker in coloring.

My two remaining turkey poults, they're starting to feather out now & are getting more feisty.

Then finally just because I haven't put any new pics on lately, here are the latest pics of my GP pups:
This is Lily

And this is Jasmine

To tour karenS's garden spot and poultry farm (tiny poultry farm).

Where: PM me for address, located between Rose Hill and Derby, KS.

When: Wednesday, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Wby: Why not!

Bring finger food if you'd like, not mandatory. I'll have iced tea and lemonade on hand plus fruit and vegie platters. Just come and hang out, chat, and get to know the faces behind the names. If you cannot make this one, being as how it's a bit short of notice, do not despair. We will meet another time. Bringing little ones along is fine. Would love to have you!
I am so excited! I may pick the boys up from day care a smidge early so they can come with me, I suppose it just depends on their behavior throughout the week. I will surely be there though!

They are so cute! I want more chickens, we are down to 7, and I have a breeder in Texas that I am getting a BCM from next weekish when I go see my family. I have this sneaking suspicion that I am going to be hatching my own out in the next few years.
Lily and Jasmine have gotten bigger since I was out there! What pretty girls.

Ok, here are some pictures of the garden/coop/big girls. We got A LOT accomplished this weekend! I got all my baskets up around the fence, 8 of them have strawberrys and I am going to put various herbs in the other 8

Here is Susan B Anthony and Chicklet all grown up. Well not really, they are still just youngins, but they have gotten so big. They love the freedom of the garden!

DH got 3 out of 4 sides finished and the 2 side windows and doors are done.

So much animal cuteness with the pictures!

Sharol, I hope you BIL is much better by morning. What a scary thing.

HEChicken, Percival is gorgeous; you got a great picture.

RVRoman, you've been very busy. The garden area is looking great and so is the fence. I love the planters on the fence. I know there's a name for those, but I sure can't think of it at the moment.

Karen, I hope I can make it. You're very generous to offer us this opportunity.

I've never seen a tick here before, but in bed the other night I felt something crawling on my arm and darned if it wasn't a tick. I'm hoping it's something my nephew managed to bring from home and not something that came from my yard. He says they do have some ticks around his place.

Dinner was good and then I came home and watched Food Network Star. I've always had a slight crush on Alton Brown.

Danz, are you coming too?? It will be so great to meet you in person!

Trish, cute chick photos! They do look different and the "roo" has eye liner, too! WOW, I can not believe how big your pups are! They look like adults now! They are gorgeous! So glad your last two turkeys are doing well, they are adorable! I got Seymore when she was about 2 weeks old, so your chick is already starting to look like how Seymore did at that age. They get their feathers in fast, don't they?

Roman, that is a fantastic garden and coop set up, it's just so pretty! Makes me want to hang out in your back yard!! I bet the girls are really loving their freedom out there.

Cherwill, we NEVER have ticks in our yard. I keep the lawn mowed down constantly and it never gets above my ankles--- but we are still finding ticks! What on earth!?!?! I just don't know what to think about that, but I'm checking the kids over every night now to try to catch them early. I doubt your nephew brought it in. I'm sure it really did come from your yard. I wonder why they are so bad this year? I know we had a mild winter, but we've had mild winters in the past and I just don't recall this problem.

All is well here, so far. I need to mow again today and work around the house. Going to call the Dr about my middle and see what he says. (tick) OH!! in latest news, I think I might have an egg eater.... I can't be sure though. I was getting about 9 eggs a day, and now I'm lucky if I get 4 eggs in a day!!! Not to mention, I found what I think might have been egg-goo yesterday in the nest box! It was just clear, and i didn't see any yellow and no shells... so I don't know for sure. Maybe I'm just paranoid. But if I have an egg eater, I'll be getting rid of her.

Up and down. This morning they thought his kidneys had failed, and then they came back to life apparently. It is one thing after another. My SIL is frantic. We are all hoping he improves soon.

Sharol

sharol, I'm so glad he's still hanging on and I'm praying he makes it. I can't believe a silly little tick can be this dangerous. So glad to find out about it because I have 8 kids running all over the place. Like Hawkeye, I keep the whole place mowed, but still we manage to get one or two anyway. Keep us posted.

Sharol so sorry about your brother in law.
Karen, You are such a wonderful person. I can't believe you are letting a bunch of people invade you like that.
Josie and any one else that lives this direction. I don't have a nice car but if you want to go to Karen's you could ride with me. It's going to take maybe 2.5 hours to get there from my place so we'd need to leave here by 10:30. If any of you want we could meet at BETO if it would make it easier.
I'll write more later. Been a very long hard day.
I do have my wonderful days! Hee hee. I'm so, so glad you will be coming. Hope you were able to get some rest last night and are feeling a bit better this morning.

HEChicken, your peacock is beautiful. It is amazing how many posts show up while writing. We all know how that goes.

rvroman, loved your pics! Your setup is beautiful! Hope to see you Wednesday.

rvroman, we posted at the same time! Glad you can make it and would love to see those beautiful boys in person!
Uh, well, too much speed reading on my part, coupled with a short attention span and duh! Sure am glad you're going to be able to come!

Trish44, there is no such thing as boring pics! I love seeing everyone's pics!

Ivy and checoukan, hope you guys can come Wednesday. Hope everyone can come Wednesday! Tweety and WichitaKidd?

Wow.. buzy weekend for me. Apparently KU's graduation was this weekend. We had so much traffic in Lawrence that it took me 45 minutes to get to Orschlens and back just to grab a flock block! 3 hours for my normal 1-1 1/2 hr grocery shopping.

Our big girls (now 10 weeks old) are starting to cluck! Yay! They sound like real chickens now!

We got our sunsetter fully installed and it's so nice to have shade on our back porch! Yay! Now I just need to get working on setting up that crappy greenhouse that I got for christmas. Still not sure where I'm going to put that.

I took in an orphaned baby robin on Friday. Mamma died and it had been in the nest chirping and not being fed for at least two days (we found the mama Wed night right under the nest). I tried, but lost it Sat night. I think it was too far gone, but it still made me sad that I couldn't do anything to save it.

I hope everyone had a great mother's day! I got to spend time with my daughter and granddaughter. :) (I get to babysit Kaylea tonight - oh darn! LOL)
Next weekend my DS graduates from high school! I can't believe that both the kids will be out of school after next week. Craziness! My father and brother are coming into town for that - they haven't been to Kansas since last summer, so it will be nice showing them the new house and seeing them!

Hi, Just found this thread for Kansas.

I SOOOOO wish that I could come! I work 6am - 3pm M-F so there's no way I could make it, but I hope ya'll have fun! Someone take pictures of the festivities and post them so I can live vicariously through ya'll! :) Maybe next time, with enough notice, I can get off work!

My BIL is in St. Francis ICU with Erlichiosis caused by deer ticks (and some others including dog ticks). Near renal failure and brain swelling. Nasty thing. I'm glad you got better.
Sharol, any updates? I'm keeping him in my thoughts!!

Went for a little ride on my horse today and upon returning to the barn, our resident peacock, Percival, was displaying for us. I managed to get some photos of him from quite close up:
Absolutely gorgeous!!!!! This is the one bird that I'd love to have, if I could! I love hearing them talk and sing!

Wow!! Your pups are really growing up fast!! And bore us? LOL!!!

That is a beautful set-up!!!! I love it!!!!!! :) I wanted to put in picket fence, but we were already spending too much - maybe later.

Oh no! How do you catch someone like that? Look at their beaks for evidence of yolk??
